I saw a video of Rudi Sodamin demonstrating cooking. Everything he produced was burnt and he thought that was great, so I hope there are no menu changes that involve his enthusiasm for burnt food.

Regarding the prime rib which ship and out of which port was it sailing?

Emerald from LA to FLL.  Food was pretty bad the entire time.  Servers worked their hearts out but didn’t have much to work with.

I suspect there are several issues involved in the quality of food since the restart.

A percentage of the old galley crew have not returned to the fleet and the new replacements are still learning how to prepare the dishes.

Some of the Executive Chefs have not returned to the ships. For example it appears that the long time Executive Chef of the Grand Princess is now running his own restaurant in the Philippines.  He was considered one of the best in the fleet.

The over all head of Princess kitchen service has changed to chef Rudi Sodamin brought in from Holland America Line. This will result in changes in the how dishes are prepared and changes in menu.  It is my understanding John Padgett was involved in the decision.

I hope it involves a lot of menu changes. I think the menu is very odd and miss having beef on the menu.  In 15 days there was beef maybe 4 times.  One was the awful prime rib cut paper thin.

Majestic in December, and in March.  Discovery in April

I have a feeling the newer ships are doing much better than the older ones, especially the Emerald. Just my suspicion.
Our friends that had FCC to use picked the Panama Canal cruise (originally on the Crown) and asked us to join them.
I'm glad you had a good experience on both ships!

Escargot and Fettuccine has been delicious.

My husband was talking to someone at our table about escargot and the next night the waiter brought it for the whole table.  Very nice of him, but it was the first escargot we’d ever had with absolutely no garlic.  Not much flavor without that.

Wow, I don’t know why a transportation employee would spout off about the food to a future pax when he/she has never even sailed Princess! DH and I adore the food on Princess and prefer it to every other cruise line we’ve sailed, including Cunard and Celebrity! Of course food is an individual preference, but please form your own opinion. I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

    Have you cruised since covid?

We have been on 4 cruises since December.  I have found the food just as good as "bc" (before covid).

My plate is always clean when they clear away the dishes.

I have even tried new dishes because people "here" have said how good they were - the goat cheese souffle !!

I am going to try new dishes each night.

Out of curiosity, what ships were you on? Thanks!

Ok...for purposes of this thread, forget that we have 49 Princess cruise  s...the only ones that count are the 6 taken since January....Also, anyone that thinks the food quality has not eroded over the years is simply not paying attention.

The Sky in January....food was fine. The Enchanted on March was not nearly as good. We are currently on the Emerald and the food is simply not up to Princess standards....pork belly is the featured dish several times a week.

I noticed that most of the posts were from passengers on newer ships. Maybe that makes a difference.  Also, we are not discussing food from 2019 or before and your last 30 or 40 cruises.  OP wants to know about now.  We were on the Emerald for 15 days in February and the food was honestly horrible and the menu very odd (IMHO). Not only the bad food, but everyone complaining about it nonstop brought everything down.  We just went, made the best choices we could, ate  and left.
We are currently booked on the Island Princess for 111 World.  No Crown Grill, no Vines, no International Cafe and no Alfredo’s kind of makes me dread the food if it’s anything like on the Emerald. I don’t care for “Bayou Food” so not sure if we will pay a specialty restaurant fee for that. The lure of the ports still has us hooked.
I hope the food on the other ships is better than on the Emerald. That food was extremely disappointing compared to any we have had on any line in the past.
Hopefully it was the food on one cruise on one ship, but that’s unlikely.

It is still only showing the 5 year cruise.  I wrote the email this morning and I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your very exact directions.  Very helpful.

After them asking me to rewrite the description, they wrote that they were fixing things in order of cruises.  So I guess I have awhile to wait. I sure hope all my dinner reservations didn’t disappear.  This medallion really is a pain in the neck.

From our experience if you want cold water in the bathroom you need to book a cool weather cruise.   Sailing in tropical waters will give you warm water on the ship.   If you want cold water fill up a couple of plastic bottles and put them in the refrigerator.   Please let us know if there is some work around.  We just had to deal with it.

We live in Florida in the winter and the water from the faucet is never cold, just lukewarm.  When we get to Wisconsin in the summer I love the cold water coming out of the tap.

If it’s still crazy tmrw, then I’d send an email to the IT team and tell them to fix it.

    Askoceanmedallion@carnival.com

Subject field:  Please fix my booking

    full names:

    booking no:

    ship and sail date:

    Explain your situation, missing booking,

garbled dates on cruise in their, etc.

Ask them to fix the cruise, so you can continue to work on the details for cruise.

Let us know if they fix it.

They usually take a few days to answer. But, I’ve had good luck with them.

Sometimes, I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it.  You won’t lose anything.  It just resets it sometimes.  Also, I’ve shutdown my phone and then back on.

Is this a b2b also?  Did you recently change the cruise or add a b2b to it?

Sometimes that throws a monkey in the wrench of this app.

It is still only showing the 5 year cruise.  I wrote the email this morning and I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your very exact directions.  Very helpful.

I want to go on the 5 year cruise!!!

Is your upcoming cruise very soon?

    Does it show correctly

    on the website, cruise personalizer?

If it does, give it an hour or so and recheck the app. They seem to be doing updates on the weekends.

Sign out and back in the App.

Let me know if it’s straightened out?

    Shows correctly on cruise Personalizer.

  12. I had many things entered into the medallion for our upcoming world cruise.  I have been trying (all morning) to log into the medallion to check some dinner reservations.  All that shows is a cruise that is over.  That cruise was from 2/12/22-2/27/22.  It now shows that cruise as 2/12/22- 2/27/2027.  Five years long.  If I add the booking number for the world cruise, this mystery 5 year long cruise is all that shows up.  I’ve opened and closed the app, deleted and reloaded the app and tried to log in every which way.  Now what? I’m totally frustrated.

    Women can't wear dress pants?

We did a world cruise in 2008 and a partial world cruise in 2019 on Queen Victoria.  The first one was 105 days with about 3 formal nights a week.  I never wore a skirt or dress even one night. I wore dressy chiffon type pants and fancy top or similar type outfit. My husband wore a tux. I never ever felt under dressed.

Could you please share which items you felt were the worst?  Hopefully we can avoid them when we sail in a month.

I know this doesn’t answer your question (sorry), but in our opinion the menus are just plain weird. Weird food and weird parings with sides. Food was so disappointing we almost canceled our 111 day world cruise.  I just can’t understand what they’re thinking.  And very little beef.  None on the every day menu. The waitstaff was working their hearts out, but food was just extremely disappointing.

Once you bring premium product  as a benchmark you have to start comparing at the higher cabin levels.

For cruises this is suite class etc. whatever that is called on the line

    or higher end ships.

Princess is not premium product at entry level cabins it's mass market

In my opinion, Princess is absolutely not a Premium product.  The food is terrible and they seem to cut corners everywhere.

It became a joke to many but, for those who have mobility issues or simply a back problem it was a real loss. I know it made a major difference to me.

On our upcoming cruise they have not only taken away the chair but most of the balcony as well!  (We were booked on Sapphire with a large Caribe Deck balcony and they moved us to the same cabin on Royal with a tiny speck of a balcony.) It's disappointing but at least we will get to cruise!

One CC said, “They call it a balcony, but it’s really more like a shelf.”

Here's a photo of the beef tenderloin at the embarkation day lunch on the Caribbean Princess in December. The dining room that day was open from 11:30 until 1:30.

We never saw a nice piece of beef like that in 15 days.
