  1. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich via Roy! It looks a bit cloudy this morning, but it could be a marine layer that will burn off soon. Roy, thank you again for holding down the fort for all of us. Bindi has had two great days, so I am hoping we have turned the corner. She is enjoying her numerous mini-meals. I would too, if I could pick what I ate. Somehow Greenies just do not appeal. No gym today. Not sure if my HIIT class will take place tonight. So I will fill my day with walks, decluttering and perhaps some yard work - if this is just a marine layer that burns off. My cousin shared this with me. You crocheters might identify with this. I do not crochet, I drink wine. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ********* Cakebread 2019 Chardonnay Reserve, Carneros, Napa Valley, California Excellent consumer and critic ratings make this a wine to try. But there are so many wonderful Chardonnays that you can find for less. It is available from several online distributors with prices starting at $60.93. Winemaker Notes For every vintage of our Chardonnay Reserve, we select the finest lots from our four Napa Valley estate vineyards in the Carneros region. This quintessential expression of cool-climate Carneros chardonnay offers concentrated flavors of creamy golden apple, ripe peach and baking spice, supported by pitch-perfect acidity. WW94 Wilfred Wong of Wine.com The 2019 Cakebread Cellars Reserve Chardonnay is lively, well-textured, and mouthfilling, with an excellent crisp finish. TASTING NOTES: This wine shows aromas and flavors of green apples, dried spices, oaky notes, and minerality. Serve it with grilled lobster in a decadent cream sauce.
  2. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich via Roy! A bit cloudy this morning with a possibility of showers. We shall see. Bindi’s vet fixed her up with some good meds, so hopefully she will be back to normal soon. She lost too much weight and needs to put on a couple pounds. Though I would love to have to put on weight, I would not want to go about it the same way Bindi did. Roy, thank you for all you do. Off to the gym. I need to do some garage decluttering. Perhaps I will start today. Weather here is a lot like this… Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ******* Château La Gaffelière St.-Emilion 2019 It is not always easy being a member of the food & beverage department. Especially when Rich uses his secret code to announce the wine du jour. But I pulled out my trusty decoder ring and voilà- we have a wine worthy of a secret code. All released vintages share similar excellent - superb ratings. Numerous online distributors with prices starting at $55.25. Winemaker Notes #67 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2022 Blend: 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc WE97 Wine Enthusiast This estate has made a dark, dense wine in this vintage. That density is penetrated by the freshness of the black currant fruits. The result is a wine that is powered both by structure and crisp fruit. There is definitely plenty of aging potential here. Barrel Sample: 95-97 JS96 James Suckling A vibrant, fragrant red with aromas of blackberries, currants, walnuts and mint chocolate. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Pretty walnut notes on the polished finish. Fantastic length. Driven acidity and focus. Try in 2025. D95Decanter An estate with a gathering sense of excitement around it, and once again proves why with the 2019. Sleek and flavourful, with the insistent tug of limestone slowing things down and allowing the juice and the tension to really inform the palate. Creamy texture also, with blueberry and raspberry fruit played gently against tobacco and crushed stone minerality. Highly successful. Barrel Sample: 95 JD95 Jeb Dunnuck The flagship 2019 Château La Gaffeliere is mostly Merlot, yet the cuvée always includes around 15% Cabernet Franc. It offers a complex array of spiced red and black fruits, cedary herbs, lead pencil, and a kiss of tobacco to go with a medium-bodied, elegant, impressively balanced style on the palate. It shows the more classic style of the vintage, has no hard edges, and is going to be relatively accessible in its youth yet also age gracefully. Barrel Sample: 93-95 RP95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2019 La Gaffelière wafts from the glass with a rich bouquet of blackberries and cherries mingled with subtle hints of burning embers and loamy soil that's framed by a deft application of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and seamless, it's a concentrated, vibrant wine built around bright acids and fine, powdery tannins. Its vivid fruit tones and classical balance make this Cabernet Franc-rich blend a promising candidate for sustained bottle age. Anyone who has tasted the great wines this estate produced in the 1950's and 1960's knows how great this site can be; and with stricter selection as well as the elimination of fruit from vines growing on the plain from the blend, that potential appears to be being unleashed at last. Best After 2027 WS94 Wine Spectator This rolls out dense fig, boysenberry and red currant paste flavors laced with pronounced chalky minerality and notes of tobacco, dried anise and juniper. The serious tannic drive on the finish puts this in the 'classically austere' camp. Worth cellaring for sure, but patience is required.
  3. Perhaps they realized they had a celebrity onboard. After all you are the Editor-in-Chief of the Report & Daily! Bon Voyage, Rich! I am thrilled that your adventures are about to begin!
  4. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich via Roy. Another very foggy morning here. Last night was so foggy, Bindi would only go to the end of the driveway and she stood and gazed around her for the longest time trying to figure things out. Roy, thank you for getting up so early to post the Report & Daily, and doing the Bon Voyage threads for Jacqui and STILL keeping our Care & Celebration lists! I really appreciate the time it takes you to do it & do it so well. Bindi heads to the vet early this morning, since she got in to something outside that has caused her major digestive problems. Right now the only thing she is able to eat without problems is puréed pumpkin. Sigh. Then we take down the cul de sac decorations. I have one gym class in the afternoon, and I really need to get out in the yard. Last week’s cold spell did a job on so many plants. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ********* Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut, Champagne, France I enjoyed this Champagne at my nephew’s wedding a few years ago. It is lovely. Lots of consumer and critic fans. It is outside of my budget, but there are numerous online distributors with prices starting at $73.98. Winemaker Notes A supple, harmonious attack on the palate, firm but rounded. A voluptuous texture and vinosity that is not excessive, supported by excellent freshness. A very refreshing mineral finish. At first very intense on the nose, giving way to fresh fruit notes, particularly ripe citrus and exotic fruits (pineapple). A highly refined floral second nose with notes of linden and white fruits (white peach). Beautiful pale yellow colour with glints of gold and green, a vibrant, luminous color. Active effervescence with a fine, persistent release of bubbles. Food Pairings Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is a perfect champagne for all occasions: aperitifs, lunch, dinner, or celebratory meals. The vivacity of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is a perfect complement to seafood and white fish, pairing perfectly with dishes such as sea scallop carpaccio and sea bream tartare. WS93 Wine Spectator A toasty blanc de blanc with an aromatic overtone of smoke and lemon peel notes accenting flavors of poached apricot, brioche, passion fruit coulis and fresh thyme. Fine and creamy in texture, with a racy finish. Best after 2022. WW93 Wilfred Wong of Wine.com COMMENTARY: The Ruinart Blanc de Blancs has always been one of our household favorites, and the current cuvée is alluring and pleasing from start to finish. TASTING NOTES: This wine is refined, steady, and attractive, with aromas and flavors of tart and ripe apple and a hint of spice. Enjoy it with ikura sashimi appetizers. (Tasted: July 14, 2022, Menlo Park, CA) WE92 Wine Enthusiast With its 100% Chardonnay, this Champagne is finely textured, elegant with minerality and the freshest crispest apple flavors. It does have some weight and certainly has intensity—a satisfying, textured wine that is ready to drink. JS92 James Suckling A fruity yet firm blanc de blancs with some brioche, cooked-apple and pear aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and flavorful. Fruity finish. Always a good bottle. Drink now. W&S90 Wine & Spirits Creamy in its gentle texture, this has the floral scent of hops and the sweet citrus tang of oranges. A subtle aperitif. Récoltant-Manipulant in Avize (Côte des Blancs) founded in 1947 owns 10 acres of chardonnay average vine age: 45 years oldest vines: 70+ years.
  5. Safe travels, Charlene! It has been very foggy the past few mornings. Hope that will have moved on by the time you return.
  6. Lenda my gmail account allows me to select an unopened email and then select “report spam” from the option list.
  7. Congrats, Rich. I would have been a bit anxious waiting to hear.
  8. Thank you for sharing today’s Report & Daily, Roy! Rich thank you for creating it, so we would not go through withdrawal while you are cruising the World! What an amazing adventure to look forward to! Thank you for keeping our lists Roy! Super foggy this morning. But it was already 58 here this morning. I have a few more tree ornaments to wrap and pack away, and then I am done until next weekend. One gym class, Aldi (since it was closed yesterday), Bindi walks, chores. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Safe and smooth travels to those traveling. Get well & stay well everyone! ********* Sokol Blosser E-Evolution Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon Pinot Noir fans may have enjoyed this one on a BHB. All released vintages of this Pinot share the same very good - excellent ratings. Available from several online distributors with prices starting at $15.99. Winemaker Notes Bright red, round & juicy fruit. Cherry pie and a hint of oak. This Pinot is round, rich, and ripe with jammy fruit flavors. Easy to drink and even easier to find something to pair with it. JS92 James Suckling A pretty nose of forest berries, fresh cherries, pine cones, fresh flowers, slate and baking spices. Medium body with sleek, seamless tannins and bright acidity. So supple and pure. Juicy finish. Drink now.
  9. Congratulations on Georgia’s heart-pounding win!
  10. Happy New Year! Thank you for the first Report & Daily of 2023! Rich, I was happy to read that you went to a wine tasting. Hope you enjoyed it. It is still totally dark here and very foggy. The street lights look as if they are floating in the fog. Bindi is not a fan. Roy, thank you for doing triple duty! After coffee I head to the gym, then Aldi. Hope to see the sun today. We did get a little rain yesterday, but not much. I hope to round out the day with Bindi walks and family visits. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ************* Terrazas de los Andes Chardonnay Reserva, Valle de Uco, Argentina You might want to taste this one before you buy a bottle of it. There are some fans, but some critics use “burnt matches” or “burnt popcorn” to describe the taste. Doesn’t sound very appealing. Similar reviews and prices for the 2018 and 2019 vintages. Easy to find online with prices starting at $18.99. Distributor notes As we formally enter winter and the coldest months approach us, fuller bodied, and more robust red and white wines add comfort to ease the chill. There are few white wines that are requested more during this period than a chardonnay. The Terrazas de los Andes Reserva Chardonnay is one of these wines. The grapes are harvested from high elevation vineyards (nearly 4,000 feet) in Mendoza's Uco Valley. Warm days and cool evenings during the growing season produce wines with nice acidity and bright fruit character. This golden straw colored wine has a nose of tropical fruit, a hint of a floral character, and a bit of oak. On the palate, I found the wine to be very well balanced. Once it has a chance to open in the glass, the wine comes alive with bright tropical fruit characteristics. There is a slight mineral character and it finishes with bright acidity. There is a layered oak component that will satisfy a consumer who enjoys an oaked chardonnay, but it is not overdone making this a wine that many will find appealing. Terrazas de Los Andes produces wines from high elevation vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina. They have a commitment to producing quality wines with less winemaker intervention, sustainability, and commitment to their local community. They are best known for their malbec wines. We are proud to feature this on our list, and it compliments any of Chef Bruno's sandwiches, chicken pabellon plates, and arepas. It is the perfect companion to the Ensalada Gaucha. Why we added this wine: We needed a high quality, well balanced, oaked chardonnay to round out our fuller white wine section. This chardonnay offers nice complexity, bright fruit, and a nice restrained oak character.
  11. Melisa Praying that your DSIL is made comfortable. Bless you for making the trip. I am glad your DH wants to remember the nice visit.
  12. I am envisioning that HAL put out an APB for your laundry, Joy! They might even have an entire detective squad devoted to this important function.
  13. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich & Ron! Really foggy here this morning. Almost eerie. Bindi would not go out. We might get some much needed rain later. Roy thank you for everything you do with keeping our lists and covering for people. I am heading to Zumba this morning. I will start putting away Christmas decorations. At least the inside ones. I will leave the tree and outside lights up awhile longer. I just hate taking them down. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! Happy New Year’s Eve! ******* Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut, Champagne, France Wht are the odds of a sparkling wine coming up for New Year’s Eve? I think Rich worked some magic for us. This one has a great many consumer and expert fans and is not outrageously expensive. Widely available with prices starting at $58.96. Winemaker Notes Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label is the signature champagne of the House. Dominated by Pinot Noir, it offers a perfect balance of structure and finesse. First, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label looks beautiful: golden-yellow, with a foaming necklace of tiny bubbles. Next it is so pleasing to the nose: initially reminiscent of yellow and white fruits, then of vanilla and later of brioche. Note the fine balance between the fruity aromas coming from the grape varieties and the toasty aromas, the result of the three years of bottle aging. The first sip delivers all the freshness and strength so typical of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label with a symphony of fruit tastes following (pear, lemon). Here is a true member of the Brut family, well structured, admirably vinous. The lingering aromas echo and re-echo, with each fruit or almond notes distinct. Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label manages to reconcile two opposing factors - strength and silkiness - and to hold them in perfect balance with aromatic intensity and a lot of freshness. This consistent power to please makes it ideal as an apéritif, and perfect as the champagne to enjoy with a meal. JS92 James Suckling Toasty and generous with lemon freshness, this also has quite some dried-pear and peach aromas from mature elements of the blend, plus a touch of spice at the long, structured finish. The cuvée is based on 2015 and is 50% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay and 20% pinot meunier. Reserve wines make up more than one third of the blend. Drink now. D91 Decanter Noticeable fruit intensity and fresh notes of red fruits, fresh blueberries and a small amount of quince. Interesting and quite demanding. Blend : 55% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier, 30% Chardonnay W&S90 Wine & Spirits Brisk lemon-lime flavors and floral apple clarity lend this wine its freshness and mineral-tinged refreshment. It smells like chalk, then the flavors are enriched by toasty brioche and spiciness from the lees aging. Simple and saturated, finely made in a grandmarque style. Best Buy WE90 Wine Enthusiast One of the most popular of all Champagnes, this is now showing a freshness that wasn't always there. The crisp texture and green-apple flavors give it an immediate drinkability as well as perfumed acidity and a vibrant aftertaste. WS90 Wine Spectator A crisp and lacy Champagne, with a hint of smoke underscoring flavors of poached apricot, pastry cream and pickled ginger. An overtone of Mandarin orange peel ties it all together.
  14. Annie! If the Hotel Nationale has not changed, you will love it. I spent a week there in 2006 and could walk everywhere! My nephew was so impressed, that whenever he went there for business after that trip, he stayed there. The rooms were lovely. The breakfast room was unique and the breakfast was impressive in its variety. There was also a great meeting room near the entrance where we would enjoy planning our next outing. Enjoy! Ann
  15. My Mom was one of nine children, and I always got a kick out of her siblings greeting us when we arrived at the family reunions with two big pots of it with us. Some of my older cousins enjoyed it too. My Sister reminded me that Mom often used Shell Beans, if Cranberry Beans were not available.
  16. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily, Rich via Ron! A lovely morning already 54. I am planning to try my first gym class since my return today. Looking forward to seeing how I do - it has been more than a week. My only aerobic activity has been walking. I can’t count Bindi walks, though at least those get me moving. Roy, thank you again for doing triple duty. Your efforts really have helped make this a community. It has been such an eventful year for many of us. Sometimes a single picture tells an entire story…. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! *********** Figgins 2018 Estate Red (Walla Walla Valley (WA)) Good news another superb wine that does not cost $500+. The bad news - only 19,000 bottles and prices start at $96.60 online. It sounds lovely, just outside of my budget. But you might find it for less locally. Winemaker Notes On the 10-year anniversary of their inaugural vintage release (2008), it is apropos that the 2018 Estate Red is unquestionably their favorite to date. When Figgins planted this site, this was the single vineyard wine they dreamed of making! Explosive, high-toned nose of mixed florals, vibrant candied cherries, freshly picked blueberries, and pencil shavings. The palate has layer upon layer of plum and dried figs. While the wine is structured and dense with the stuffing to age two decades easily, it is plush, balanced, and already drinking beautifully for a young bottle of Figgins. D97 Decanter Inky and brooding once in the glass this is quite simply the best wine ever produced by this estate. Needing an hour in the decanter, this unveils tar and tobacco leaf tones aromatically with graphite and a massive core of dark fruits also providing intrigue. Juicy, with outstanding acidity and freshness, this shows off cassis, anise, charcoal and menthol flavours that mingle with the bright sense of verve. Glorious now, try to resist this beautiful wine for at least another year. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2045. JD97 Jeb Dunnuck The 2018 Red Wine is another stunner from this talented team. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot aged 23 months in a mix of new and used barrels, it has an incredibly pure bouquet of both red and blue fruits as well as graphite, violets, and blood orange. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, it stays tight and focused on the palate, with a beautiful mouthfeel, ripe yet firm, chalky tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great, great finish. It’s a gorgeous wine that will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and cruise for 15-20+ in cold cellars. Rating: 97+ V97 Vinous The 2018 Red Wine Estate might just be the best edition ever of this incredible high-elevation bottling. It’s nothing short of a blending masterpiece by Chris Figgins and his winemaking team. This thing is massive monster of a wine that really needs several hours of air to get going. But once tamed, the aromatics explode out of the glass, unveiling dark currants, roasted figs, black rose petals and creosote tones with shades of green bell pepper from the Petit Verdot. The palate is soft and opulent in the mouth. Layers of crème de cassis, anise, violets, dark cherry cordial, graphite and espresso bean with green bell pepper undertones all brilliantly combine with a vibrant sense of tension, and firm tannins hold everything in place. While this is extraordinary to savor upon release, try your best to resist it for at least a few more years. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2050. JS95 James Suckling Blackcurrant, blackberry, walnut and mint chocolate on the nose, as well as hints of radish and mocha. It’s full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins. Concentrated and chewy with a dense core of black fruit. Solid and tight. Cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and merlot. Give this time. Try from 2024. RP94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Immediately impressive in the glass, the 2018 Estate Red Wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot with aromas of juicy and ripe blackberry, spiced black cherry preserves, elegant floral tones and elements of boysenberry and blueberry with a soft amount of volatility. Full-bodied, generous and full of flavor, the blend displays power and finesse, unpacking layers of complexity with a tight tannic grip that will loosen with additional bottle age. The wine somersaults to a spectacular finish with a firm, juicy and dusty sensation that gives pleasure at every turn. The wine rested for for 23 months in new and used French oak barrels. Just give it another few years in the bottle for the wine to shed its baby fat. Just under 19,000 bottles were filled. Impressive; Bravo! WS94 Wine Spectator A dynamic and refined red, with detailed blackberry, green olive and spicy espresso flavors that build tension and polish on the long finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
  17. Checking back in with a very important announcement - my Mom’s succotash was so good her siblings would always ask that she make it for the Summer family reunions. Why - because traditional New England succotash does NOT use lima beans - it uses cranberry beans, which are only available in the Summer - at least back then. I still was not a fan, but it certainly looks better than lima beans. Here’s an article & recipe… https://www.teachingtable.net/blog/2018/8/7/summer-succotash-new-england-style Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.
  18. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily Rich/Roy! It is a lovely morning here 52 already, and the deer are everywhere enjoying breakfast. Roy thank you for doing triple duty. Today is my last day of self-imposed quarantine and I am almost convinced, I do not have a cold and am dealing with sinus issues. It could be a lot worse. My generator folk come today for my Winter maintenance visit, and I need to do a review of any holiday decoration that I do not use. I want to donate that in my next AmVet collection. And Bindi walks. This might seem very familiar to you folk with dogs in your family. Prayers for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! *********** Château Palmer 2018 Margaux Bordeaux 7 critics rave about this Bordeaux blend and the low score is 98! But it comes with a price. Numerous online distributors with prices starting at $589.00. Winemaker Notes Blend: 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot D100 Decanter Beautifully rich even on the nose, this makes you smile from the first moment. On the palate things are intense and concentrated, as you might expect with an 11hl/ha yield (mildew-related). Upfront flavours major on big bitter chocolate with touches of smoke and grilled cedar, lots of savoury fruits and touches of reduction. Extremely impressive how layered and textured it is, though it really needs decades to reveal itself. There is the seductive floral edge of Palmer as it opens in the glass, but this is a muscular wine that needs time. 79% new oak. No Alter Ego in 2018. Bottled July 2020 after one year in barrel and a second year in larger Stockinger barrels for 20% of the crop to soften the oak influence. It's extremely hard for top estates to deliver consistency and innovation over decades; it really is like a sports team in that way, and this is a standout success in what was an extremely challenging year for Palmer. Drinking Window 2028 - 2050 V100 Vinous The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making. I had an inkling out of barrel, but such was its intensity that I wanted to assess it in bottle before I felt confident in saying so, because this could have gone either way. It storms from the glass with black fruit and floral scents, crushed violet and incense that knock your senses sideways while retaining brilliant delineation and focus. The palate is not quite as bold and brassy as when I tasted it from barrel, though I can vouchsafe that among over 20 vintages of Palmer that I have tasted at this stage, this is easily the most extroverted and powerful, displaying a kind of millefeuille of intense black fruit counterpoised by a razor-sharp line of acidity. This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born. WE99 Wine Enthusiast This dense wine is almost black in color. Offering tannins and luscious black fruits, it is ripe with both structure and richness. The concentration and thought-provoking intensity are impressive. Drink this wine from 2028. Organic and biodynamic. Cellar Selection RP99 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2018 Palmer is composed of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. Grapes were harvested September 13 to October 15, and the wine has a 3.83 pH and 14.3% alcohol. Very deep purple-black in color, the nose is a little reticent to begin, but with coaxing, it slowly emerges to show fragrant violets, underbrush, mossy bark and iron ore with exponentially growing notions of crème de cassis, Black Forest cake, plum preserves, hoisin, Christmas cake and red roses with wafts of dusty earth, Indian spices and cracked black pepper. Full-bodied, concentrated and downright powerful in the mouth, it has a solid structure of firm, wonderfully plush tannins and masses of fragrant accents, finishing very long and very spicy. By the time I finished tasting this, the nose had exploded in this fragrant bomb of fruit, earth and floral notions. This is one of those 2018 wines that has a beguiling brightness that comes from the many floral, spice and mineral accents among all that rich fruit. WOW! Barrel Sample: 97-99 JD99 Jeb Dunnuck While there's not much to go around, the 2018 Château Palmer is unquestionably a stunning bottle of wine. I certainly can't think of another Palmer coming close to this level of concentration (maybe the 2010 comes closest?). This blockbuster boasts a dense purple hue as well as a primordial bouquet of black cherries, mulberries, and blackberries intermixed with freshly crushed rocks, smoke tobacco, gravelly earth, lead pencil shavings, and burning embers. With full-bodied richness, a dense, stacked mid-palate, mouth coating tannin's, and a blockbuster of a finish, it's going to need 10-15 years to hit maturity, and as I wrote last year, will live for just about forever. Rating : 99+ WS98 Wine Spectator Remarkably concentrated, this nearly oozes fruit, with waves of cassis, plum reduction and warmed cherry preserves all carried by a dense yet polished and seamlessly embedded structure. A backdrop of violet, lilac and pastis adds to the enveloping feel, and yet with all that depth and concentration, this is a vibrant, pure expression, thanks in part to a riveting iron spine through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2028 through 2040. JS98 James Suckling Complex nose of black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate and floral undertones with perfume-like character. It’s full-bodied with firm tannins. Elegant on the palate with structure. Savory and balanced, complex and layered. Long finish. Really lingers. This has really evolved into a beautiful white swan after a difficult debut from barrel! Tiny production. only 11 hectoliters per hectare. Try after 2024.
  19. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily - Roy/Rich! It is already 42 here this morning and the sun has lightened the Eastern sky. Roy, thank you for doing triple duty! I appreciate your efforts. I still do not know if I am dealing with a cold or a sinus issue, but if I do not have real cold symptoms by tomorrow night - I will know. I am going to stay close to home today, too. Looks like Bindi walks for me. My neighbor shared these with me. 😎 Praying for all who need our support. Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ********* Aveleda 2020 Alvarinho (Minho) Portugal This white wine sounds interesting. I would love to taste it. It does not sound sweet, but I have never experienced this grape/wine before. I found it on a couple online distributors with prices starting at $10.99. Winemaker Notes Pale yellow with hints of gold. Discreet aromas of grapefruit, white peaches and white flowers. On the palate this wine is incredibly structured and smooth, revealing more prominent notes of orange zest, pineapple and orange blossom. Critical Acclaim WE90 Wine Enthusiast Alvarinho at its ripe and creamy best, this is bright with apple fruits that give the wine freshness. The mineral texture adds a touch of steeliness and complexity to a white that is very ready to drink. Best Buy
  20. Thank you for today’s Report & Daily! @ocean sounds welcome & I hope you enjoy this group as much as I do. So many people contribute, but more importantly care! Roy, thank you again for playing triple duty! It is a balmy 35 here this morning. I’ll take it! When I left my nephew’s house yesterday, it was 10. 😎 It was good to be home and sleep in my own bed. Bindi was happy to come home too. I suspect I brought the bad cold back with me. My sinuses have been aching since I woke up yesterday, and the flight did not help. But I will survive. Aldi, Bindi walks, and possibly one gym class are in my future. My window for Holiday memes is closing fast…. Prayers for all who need our support- @smitty34877 Terry, so happy to read your progress! Cheers to all who are celebrating! Get well & stay well everyone! ******** Sun Garden 2018 Sweet Red Dornfelder (Rheinhessen) Germany Sweet, red wine lovers take note - this wine has quite a few consumer fans. It has a very good rating from at least one critic, and has a very reasonable price tag. I found several online distributors with prices starting at $10.99. 86 Wine Enthusiast Flavors of red cherry, menthol and preserved plum are accented by a hint of burnt caramel in this luscious sweet-style Dornfelder. Plush in texture and edged by very soft, feathery tannins, it's an easy-drinking, welcoming red best consumed young.
