We sailed on Breakaway this past March and I am sailing on her again next year. I absolutely loved the Breakaway and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone. True, she is much bigger than the Jewel class ships and that might be a little off-putting to those used to the smaller ships but, I loved it. Cruises truly are what you make of them. I have sailed in good weather and bad. Big ships and small. Any cruise is better than sitting in my office doing paperwork!

Walk to Graycliff manor -beautiful grounds, chocolate and cigar making. Nearby John waltings rum factory, then stop in straw market. Very different place
Safe sailing

I second this. We did it in March and had a ball. Very close to the pier and an easy walk.

We sailed this cruise this past early March. We had bright sun on Sail-away but it was too chilly for the pools. By afternoon of the first sea day, we were in shorts. Florida and Nassau were warm and sunny. The water was cooler than I am used to but definitely swimmable.
I am in Vermont so I understand your comment about the southern folks.

I appreciate your advice and that of others who answered my question. We will probably fly in 2 days early. I worked at our local airport for 8 years so I am very familiar with the joys of flight delays

I guess so. Tapatalk worked for me, too.

Same has happened to me. I am able to open the website view to read the posts but it is very annoying. I'm not sure how to fix this. Any insight from anyone technically inclined would be appreciated.

Awesome video and review. I am on this same cruise next year. Do you recommend flying in one or two days before the cruise? We are coming from Vermont. Thank you.

Absolutely beautiful. I am on this cruise next summer. We will be in one of the forward suites so I am hoping that will help with the view hogs. Thank you so much for sharing your video!

My very first cruise was on the Sky in 2010 and, yes, there have been so many changes, I can't keep up. However, none of them are enough to make me cancel my cruise to Alaska next year. I don't eat in the specialty restaurants, I don't drink, I tip above and beyond the DSC (and think the crew members deserve every penny). Don't start with the"NCL gets the DSC, not the crew" stuff either because unless you have direct knowledge of this from NCL headquarters, it is speculation. Nonetheless, the soda ban will affect my next cruise but only because I don't feel like paying $3.50 for a can of soda and like to bring my own on board. I will survive, though.
I have so many more important things to worry about than whether or not I can get lobster on my cruise. It only takes one cancer diagnosis to change one's perspective. A cruise, and anything else, really, is what you make of it. Life and changes happen. Either suck it up and move on or be miserable. It is all about choices.

I cannot wait to finish reading your review. We are taking the same cruise in August 2017 in one of the forward suites directly below the bridge. I am so excited!

We were very lucky to grab one of the forward suites(#10000) for our cruise on the Pearl next year. I don't care what the weather is, I will be out on the balcony all the time watching the scenery

I know you are not allowed to use the dispenser at the buffet to fill your water bottles. Some mentioned a faucet. Aside from the faucet at your bathroom, where would you find a faucet?
When I need to refill my water bottle, I bring it to the buffet and use a clean glass to fill it. I have also found that the bartenders at various bars are usually very happy to refill my water bottle, as they can do so quite easily, as long as I remove the lid.

I will be in 9320 in two weeks. The bed for that room is near the balcony.
9318, 9322, 9920, and 9918 have beds near the closet. 9320 and 9922 have beds near the balcony.
We were in 9918 this past March. The bed was by the balcony.

Keep in mind that late August is during Hurricane season, which starts June 1 and goes through November. Since weather is unpredictable, be prepared for a possible itinerary change, even if sailing to Canada.

Did you have to show said crew member the "secret handshake" to obtain those coveted pieces of paper ?
Not at all. No dead presidents on any of the pieces of paper. And we were NOT in a suite, either!

OMG! I did not know all need to be present. Im sailing Haven with my family and mom in August on BreakWay and dont need Vibe but sailing with my mom in a spa cabin on Getaway and planned on leaving her with my carryon and my walking very fast to try to get passes and having her meet me. She is such a sllooowwww walker. This will not work :(
We were on Breakaway in March. We had boarding group 6. One of my travel companions was in a wheelchair and we took the elevators after boarding. We headed to Guest Services. My disabled friend sat down and my other friend waited in line with me. Before we reached the desk, there was a crew member waiting with numbered pieces of paper. I told him I wanted three of the Vibe passes. He handed me three of the pieces of paper and we were able to get the passes at the desk. No problem.

We were in 9918 on the Breakaway this past March. Never heard a peep from Spice on the balcony. In fact, one night, when one of my travel companions was keeping me awake with snoring, I actually slept out on the balcony. Other than the sound of the ship's wake, I never heard a sound!

I have to admit, I have had the same sort of question. I am going from the Breakaway this past March to the Pearl next August. I am hoping that the fact we will be in Alaska and in a suite will make up for the fact that Pearl is so much older than Breakaway. Then again, I will be on a cruise and not stuck at home doing the same old routine so, I guess it really depends on how one looks at it, right?

First of all, congratulations on losing your weight. I absolutely understand where you are since I have lost 54 LBS. On my cruise this past March, i made sure I took the stairs everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE!! Our cabin was on the 9th deck and the buffet was on deck 16. I took those stairs both up and down. Whenever I wanted to go anywhere on the ship, I used the stairs. As for fun activities, I love to dance so whenever there was some sort of ship party with music, I was there.

Swim in the wave pool!

Going on that same cruise next summer. Thank you so much!
-
Keep in mind that it is not uncommon for the various ships to miss their stops at the private island, if that is your main reason for the Epic. Just ask any recent Breakaway or Gem cruiser

You know what the problem is, right? All of the commercials show cruisers as beautiful people, couples gazing lovingly at each other and impeccably dressed, well-behaved children and so on. Hardly reality!
