Would think Adonia is ideal for the Caribbean.
Small enough to go in to the island harbours. Ship decor may not be
for everyone - very much like a country house - but you will find it very
comfortable. The crew soon get to know you. Also, if you make new
friends a second meeting is easy, unlike the monster ships.
Entertainment is low key as there isn't a theatre/cinema as such.
Very likely that the dress code will be relaxed in the heat but everyone
does dress up on the formal nights.
Plenty of deck chairs so you don't need to make several circuits looking.
Atmosphere is altogether quieter and perhaps aimed at an older age group.
If you want to book then hurry because I hear that cabins are selling fast -
which tells you something.
Thanks Johnthebook we do like the country house feel of Fred's ships and are more than happy to dress up on formal nights so I think it will be for us.I will look around and see if I can find some sample menus as good and varied food is something we look forward to on a cruise.:)

We are looking at booking the Adonia for the Caribbean and South America February 2016, a long way off I know but then I do like to book early and get a good choice of cabin. Does anyone have any experience of the ship. How many formal nights, dress code, shows etc. We are both just 60 and have previously cruised with Thomson s and Fred but are looking for a change. Any advice gratefully received.:)

That made me giggle, if my Fridge starts telling me how many calories are in my food I'm leaving home :):)

An interesting read, I have moved to the Thomson board from Fred, but I am a reader more than a poster being a newbie to Thomson's. By the way not all Freds passengers are mature.:)

We find the west coast beaches the best in Barbados, you can get a bus or a cab, however there is the beach close to the port which is fine. We spent a day at the Hilton hotel. We got a day pass for $25 each and enjoyed lunch and a drink. There is also the beach club which is quite good fun hope this helps.

And we are sailing on her in February :) (just paid the balance) and she is my very favourite ship :)
And mine:)

We are cruising on her January 2015 so I am hoping that she isn't being sold before them as it's one of my favourite ships.

We went on the Dream early this year and found it to be a really friendly ship both staff and fellow passengers. It wasn't a glitzy ship but had everything we needed and the food was fine. The only disadvantage for us was there weren't any balcony's but our cabin was clean and comfortable with a good size bathroom. Hope this helps:)

Well said Tizzy-Jo I do hope it helps in some small way.

My son & his GF just came off the Carnival Miracle yesterday & did the horseback riding in Grand Turk. They really enjoyed it & after seeing their video I want to do it next time. The ride itself wasn't a "knock your socks off" thing but they said going in the water made it really fun & different.
How old are your children? They said there was a young girl on the horse - looked in the video to be around 8 yrs. old - and they said she was scared in the water. The horses go in pretty deep. I had thought they'd only walk on the shore. The little girl did hold her own thru it all & the guides make everyone put a flotation device around their waist before the water part of the ride. I hear you though with the $300. ride...especially for kids feeling luke warm about it! There is no way my kids would go on any 7:30 a.m. tour, though my husband & I are really early a.m. people
Are you stopping at Grand Cayman on this cruise? If so, as someone else suggested try the swim with the stingrays. We've done that a number of times with Captain Marvin. I think we paid in the $30. or so pp range & that is a real experience!
Hi there we did the stingrays on Grand Turk fabulous trip, took around 3 hours after we wandered off to the beach

We are booked on our first-ever Carnival cruise August 1st out of Baltimore. I signed up for the horseback riding excursion in Grand Turk for the three of us -- $300.
After reading a bit about the ride, I'm starting to think it's hugely expensive for the relatively short time you're on the horses in the water.
I'm thinking about cancelling the excursion -- my kids are lukewarm on the idea of riding the horses, anyway, and the only slot available for us was the 7:30AM one.
I dunno, maybe I'm just feeling grumpy and cheap.
Does anyone have any experience with the excursion, or maybe someone can talk some sense into me? ;)
TIA!
Nancy
Hi if your kids are luke warm to horse riding try the stingray encounter we had a great time doing this, just a point 07.30 is a good time to hores ride so much more comfortable for the horses, something I keep promissing myself I'll do is ride in the sea. Have a great trip

On our 7 night med cruise we only had 1 formal night which was the gala dinner. About 90% were in formal wear. Most other nights everyone made an effort and were dressed for dinner. Daytime was normal summer wear shorts T shirts etc. Hope this helps

:)Hi There
Belated happy new year to one and all am late due to work commitments.
Good news for me managed to reach my goal plus 1lb really exited now,my mii stood up waving her arms in a shower of flowers and stars.:D It may have had something to do with my 5 mile hike to work owing to being snowed in for 2 days. What is biggest looser? is it a DVD or a game I've not seen it in the UK.
Hope everyone is well

For us the best food was on the Royal star a very old small ship, now retired.
The worst was on MSC usually luke warm with poor service apart from thre speciality resturants which were excellant.

Thanks Molly, this cruise goes on sale on April 11th so we'll have to make a decision soon to get a good balcony cabin. :)
We have mostly done small ships as we prefer the more ambient feel of them, our overall experience of the larger ships has not been great although destination plays a big part in our enjoyment.
