So is there a downside from picking one up when we fly in this Saturday from NH, and use it for two weeks?
If there's an additional fee that I don't have to pay Dollar Car Rental, I don't see a negative--whether it's $10 or $100.
Am I missing something?

one's plastic and one is paper, don't understand what stinks, you have to wait 2 -3 days is the only inconvenience
I'v had the mailed cards disappear--never received.
Had to wait a couple of weeks before they were replaced-my credit card wasn't credited during the "review" process. It eventually worked out, but e-cards are much, much, preferred.

I order two every night in the MDR--not upset with the "shrunken shrimp."

They are Carnival gift cards sold through AARP. They are no different than the Carnival gift cards sold in stores, malls, etc.
Buying them through the Rewards program with AARP nets a 10% price reduction (minus the shipping charges).

It became available last week for a December/ 2019 Magic cruise.

Just became available today for 12/7/19 Magic.

Grand Turk is one of our favorite ports, and we will be going there again this year and next.
We've stayed at the Margaritaville area once and never had a problem. We go further down the beach where it's much less crowded.

I've ordered the filet mignon, medium, a # of times in the MDR. It is brought from the steakhouse, not the regular galley.
It has been consistently excellent each time.
I have not ordered the lobster from the steakhouse so can't speak about that.

This looks like some good additions. Food Network and HGTV are always good for killing time during the "in between" moments.
When we're in the cabin in the morning w/ coffee, post-excursions, getting ready for dinner, before going to bed, are all times that we have the tv on.
Other than that, we're not spending time in the cabin.

I order a bottle of vodka each trip, make drinks, and walk throughout the ship with no problems.

I can't imagine that bring the cards and applying them on the ship would be too onerous! Stick 'em in your pocket! Not a fan of buying something that isn't refundable...or having to jump through hoops to get your money back!
We just brought the cards with us and stopped at Guest Services the 2nd day (no line) and had them applied. Took less than 10 minutes to have them take care of it.
Applied the balance to my casino bank the last night, and cashed out at the cage--received cash.
Very, very easy process.

When we took our first cruise 30+ years ago BAG (Before Auto-Gratuities) I had to look at what the suggested tips were for the MDR waiters and room steward. Before the cruise started I thought those were a bit high, but once on board and seeing how hard they work I increased those tips and enjoyed passing out the envelopes on the last night.
When the auto-gratuities started I never considered removing them, but I still get 5 envelopes from the service desk to give them all a little extra on the last night. Of all the price increases the auto-grat increases bother me the least.
We do this as well--there hasn't been one instance that we even considered not giving extra--we have received excellent service.

Sailed on the Conquest at the beginning of December.
I purchased the most expensive plan--was hit or miss depending on the time of day, location, etc.
Girlfriend purchased the mid-tier plan---pretty much the same.

Most of us know you simply can't just fall off the ship unless there is foul play or you are doing something stupid like sitting or standing on the railing.
However we continue to see passengers going overboard. Do you think there will ever be a significant change in design of the balconies and decks to
prevent this occurring. I hate the thought of losing the openness and views you get while at sea.
No, and we should not have to. The railings are high enough to keep you on the ship.

We have never had any problems with any porter at either Port Everglades or Miami.
Each porter that we've had has been helpful and cheerful.
We normally tip $10.00 for four suitcases.

You're entitled to your opinion--many of us do not agree with you. We are fine with being safe and ensuring that we've planned for "what ifs."
Our ship had two delays--late leaving St. Kitt's by almost three hours, and delayed on the way back to Port Everglades for turning around to inspect what looked like a boat in distress.
To the OP, your decision--nobody here can predict the future. Good luck.

Just an fyi--our cruise this past week on the Conquest didn't start letting people off until after 8:00AM.
if our cruise was coming back to Miami and we had to drive to FLL airport, we would not be making a 10:40AM flight.
All calculations are based on the normal ship docking time of 6:00AM--doesn't always happen.
No gloom and doom--just the reality--if you want to worry about whether you're going to make your flight, go for it.

$19.00 each way for two people for us was fine. We watch our money but the additional cost of a few bucks for a ride was not a big deal to us.
We were the first to be dropped off for our ship pre-cruise, and on the return, the other pickups and trip to the airport was actually enjoyable. 🙂

We just got back from Florida yesterday after sailing on the Carnival Conquest 11/24-12/2):
We stay at the Embassy Suites on 17th Street--have stayed there pre and post cruise for 9 years.
We like the location, Publix, Total Wine, and Crown Liquor are all within walking distance. Also a good amount of restaurants are nearby as well. Free breakfast and daily Manager's Reception (free, not top shelf liquors) drinks from 5:30-7:30PM.
Hotel price was around $200.00 (which we're fine with).
We took the hotel shuttle to the cruise port (they try to put everybody that are going to a specific ship in one van, but it doesn't always work out), and also back from the port to the hotel for our stay Sunday night (we made a trip to the airport for one couple and then went to the hotel). (Even with a few stops and a trip to the airport, we were back at the hotel by 9:10AM)
The total cost for two people, round trip (11/24 & 12/2) was $38.16. (Verified on my credit card statement)

We just got off the Conquest Sunday and we thought Leigh was awesome!

There are signs pointing you to the right terminal. You will not miss your specific ship--very easy to spot! 😉

Thanks!
I'd never seen that site before.

Does anyone know who is the Cruise Director presently on the Conquest?
Free loaner toll transponder at MCO
in Florida Departures
Posted
Based upon what I'm seeing at the Dollar site, and all the other info available, I will save money by picking up a transponder tomorrow at MCO, and returning it at the end of our two week stay.
I did sign up and have a confirmation #.
Thanks for your help!
