    Always love the “inedible” comments.

It was the gravy from biscuits and gravy dish which was inedible.

I went to see if it was served again later this week.  And it’s been removed from the menu.

In fact, I went back to see if it was on the menu last Sunday when I ordered it, and it’s for some reason it’s not on there either. 🤷‍♀️

It’s like it never happened LOL.

I’m going to order it next sea day and see if I can get it.  I’m guessing they removed it because people said it was awful.  Watery sewage water is what it looked like.  I poured it over my toast and it soaked in.   I stand by my opinion.

  2. We’re on the MG in January.  Sorry to hear about your food experience.

We’re on Vista now and the food is superb. Except the biscuits and gravy which was inedible.  Even though I am not a meat person it seems the meat dishes on this ship are really good.

I was just in Sunshine a few months ago and the food was just so-so.

I’m confused why everything is not somewhat consistent given they’re cooking the same dishes.

The pop up free play is new this year.  They are cracking down on the cashing out game including locking people out permanently from room charging  in the casino.

The OP said obc, not free play.

At any rate, I would still try it.

I do this when I forget cash for extra tips for the room steward and dining room.

I’ve literally driven all the way to the port only to realize I have very little cash.

On my last Royal ship I didn’t gamble in the casino much.  Realizing I had very little cash I put $700 on my room, spun once, got cash.

Went home and got a free interior in the mail.  Maybe that was a fluke.

If they lock my charging on my room, then oh well, probably for the  best. 🤷‍♀️

  4. $1000 OBC?  I would put part or all of it through a slot machine, spin once, and take the cash. Then put everything on my room card which I pay with a credit card and get the points.

I’m on the Vista and I put my card in the slot machine and a message pops up saying congratulations we’re giving you $200 in free play!  😳.  I was really surprised because this is the second cruise in 3 months they’ve done this and didn’t say boo to me prior to sailing.  😁😁😁. I blew it in minutes. 😂😂

I have seen quite a few signed receipts while waiting for a drink with no tip added in.🤷‍♀️

Me too. Especially while getting fancy coffees.

There is sometimes only one person working behind the counter and they are so busy flying around and don’t have time to grab the signed receipts.

They’re working their tail off, taking a few minutes to customize each coffee and yet no extra tip. 🤷‍♀️

  6. OP here.  Thank you all for your advice.

I was actually contacted by Carnival a few days ago and moved to an HC cabin on deck 2.  I was surprised because they said they don’t have a waiting list.

I’m guessing they also wanted my interior midship deck 7 cabin to sell for a premium to a last minute guest. 😉

It’s a huge relief as I was concerned about the small door, etc.

Now the only thing I have left to do is see if my private tour company in St Martin (Bernard’s Tours) will watch my scooter while I’m on the tour.   Or hopefully I can get a bicycle taxi over to the tour bus area and back.  Or I may have to hobble the whole way. 😂

I have to wonder if anyone would notice or care if an ordinary Joe with no status dropped their carryon in their cabin.

Well, I would care. If everyone did that, then the hallways would be full of guests and Carnival would likely do away with this “perk.”

  8. Try resortforaday.com.

I don’t do Mexico. But if I did, I would definitely do a resort.

You can get ideas from TripAdvisor or the ports of call boards on CC here.

As someone who doesn’t tolerate sun or being hot, this is what I do:

    -Wear a brimmed hat.

-Bring a parasol or umbrella for walking around.

-Bring a personal fan.  Amazon has lots of options. I use this one, which clips onto your shirt and stays charged and blows a good breeze. It can blow air up your shirt if clipped on your waistband or clip it on your neckline to blow on your face.

Or this is a good one for your face.

How old and fit is your friend?  Could she do an upper bunk 1A cabin?

Good idea. But wouldn’t be doable .

Ive written Carnival on the off chance there’s a no-show in a HC on my sailing.
    I realize it’s a long shot.  Thx

  10. I have already looked through the handicap cruising boards here.

So we’re on the Vista in a few weeks.  I fell on Monday and I now need a scooter.  Ugh!  I’m so mad!

Carnival’s disability department says the scooter will fit inside a regular cabin.
Is this going to work?   Where in the Sam Hill is this going to fit?

There are no HC cabins left.

What are the chances of me getting a HC cabin at the pier?

I’m sick about this. My friend said she’d rather be my nurse than have me cancel even though I have insurance for cancellation.

private tours are now offered through online travel sites like Viator

Yes. This is the one asking for minimum of 6.

Thanks for your help.  I’m going to try to do your suggestion.

  12. I want to just get a tour for $50 pp plus tip but all I can find are tours which require me to gather a group of 6.  Not happening.  I don’t mind going with ours for us to drive around to sightsee but I don’t want to find other people to go.

Do you think we can just grab a group tour for this price when we get off the ship?

We just need a tour and decent bathroom stops, no swimming.

The last tour we took brought us to restrooms which had NO toilet seats!  🙄

    Thanks.

where I had run in #2 of the day with Deli Lady.

Yikes! You’re making me not want to go to the deli.

    Which I do a lot.

We’re sailing in 3 weeks and if she’s still there and has an attitude such as this, I will give her a second chance.

Then I will simply smile at her, find an officer and fix the problem.  Forget that noise.  I’m not dealing with that all week.

Using a VPN is a good idea, but in reality nearly everything on the internet today is encrypted so it should be safe without.

I already use a VPN when I work from home.   I have to “ approve” the connection when it sends something to my cell phone.

So, are you saying that that itself is secure enough?

But is that really a vacation?

Yes.  I went on 7 cruises in 2022, some of which were alone.

I can’t recall how many in 2023 but in 2024, now that I’m back to living in the Midwest, I have 4.

My boss accommodates my cruise addiction so long as I get the work done. I leave on a whim, sometimes inconveniencing other people.  Nobody tells me when to go on vacation and I do what I wish.  In my mind, it’s a small price to pay if the cruise is to the Bahamas or Caribbean.

Now, if it was to Hawaii or somewhere else, that’s a different animal.

I use Cisco VPN.  It has worked fine on the Legend, Miracle, Vista and several other ships

I use Cisco VPN when I work from home.

While cruising, I just send  things over email but I am curious about how “secure” it is to actually hook up to our server at work.   It’s one thing to have an email be viewed by someone who’s not supposed to see it, but to have our server exposed because I’m working from a cruise is absolutely not an option.

Our IT company has said that he doesn’t believe it is secure.  He thinks I’d need to buy something extra.

Thoughts?  Did you do/buy anything special to be sure you’re secure?

I believe Carnival still automatically adds the gratuity daily if you don't prepay

I think Royal adds them daily.   Carnival adds them all at once as a line item a few days prior to the end of the cruise.

  18. Welp, I received it and it’s a big nothing burger.  As most have said here, my other offers far exceed this Ultra.

I went on an Ultra on the MG last year just because I had not been before.  I ended up spending a lot for my room, and the same is true with today’s Ultra.   I just don’t feel that unless you get a free room that it’s worth it.
