  1. Hi, when are you traveling? I am going to be home by the 8th of February and I'll report on where we ended up if you like. I am leaning toward Carlisle Bay at the moment. Laurie

Hi Laurie - That'd be great. We're going mid-March. I'm waffling btwn Carlisle Bay and Rockley Beach. I'm really interested in whether there is shade/umbrellas and restrooms. I'm also wondering about taxi's back to the ship as well. Thanks!

    Cheers .:)

  2. Great pictures, thanks!

I found a PR tourism site that sent me a map of OSJ, it was neat to get in the mail! (my printer is acting up and there's just something fun about a "real" map)

It all sounds immensely walkable and nice.

    Can you share this website?

I would love to have a map as my sense of direction is pretty awful.

    Thanks.:)

  3. You're not saving any money on this 50% deal.

    .

I totally agree. I think they need to ditch this 50% deposit nonsense. Carnival is using this instead of lowering prices. It is not saving the consumer anything. It does, however, grant someone the availability to book a cruise when they otherwise probably can't afford it, and shouldn't be doing it.

Also, this is wreaking havoc with me checking for price drops, which is probably their motive. :(

  4. Although this might sound and is stupid, the bottom line is IF the Crew Member who is in charge, turns on the switch for Cellular @ Sea or not makes the difference...

If Cellular @ Sea is turned on, then yes, you will be billed for the time you are on the cell phone... If its not turned on, then no, you will not be billed...

And you can tell... look at your cell phone right now... Top Left it should have AT&T... On a ship, it will say Cellular @ Sea... easy enough to tell...

Wow - after so many cruises & I never noticed this little notation on the top left before. Thanks for mentioning that.

Thanks to all for your quick responses. This makes total sense now. I think it will be fine as long as someone turns off the proper switch on the ship, I can talk while sitting on the ship's deck area.

  5. I spoke w/ International Dept @ AT&T about my cell phone. I have a plain cell phone, not an I-phone. The lady said that while in St Thomas, which is free, if I used my phone to call home, I needed to be completely off the ship or I'd get charged.

I asked "How does AT&T know whether I'm on sitting at the pool, or standing on the land right outside the ship.?" She said that Carnival's cell towers are so strong that they suggest getting pretty far away before calling, otherwise the ship's tower will pick it up & you'll get charged for cellular at sea.

This sounds ridiculous to me. I've asked two people at AT&T and got the same response.

    Does this sound correct?

    Thanks.

  6. We also had Corrina in Dec. 2012 on the Liberty. Her assistants were Andre and Wayan. That was the best service of any of our cruises. I think the hostesses are accustomed to people requesting her...after the 2nd night, the hostess would just nod and seat us in her section.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like Corrina and Rey on the Liberty are favorites.

Hopefully someone will come along who has had ATD on the Valor ...

  7. Do you have a favorite ATD waitstaff? After a less than great waiter on the Pride, I bailed on scheduled dining. Since then, and thanks to people here on CC, we began requesting a certain waiter/waitress and have discovered that it makes a huge difference in the whole dining experience.

Who is your favorite ATD wait staff, which ship, and why?

On the Dream, we asked for Prannie. The food was fast and hot. She smiled all of the time.

On the Fantasy, twice we’ve asked for Fernando, with his assistant Roger. He did magic tricks, jokes, and again did a great job with moving the different courses along, constantly filling the water, etc.

Specifically, I’m looking to hear anyone’s opinion on the Valor and the Liberty.

    Thanks :)

  8. Godfrey does a great tour. He has been doing this for decades and I've taken his tour twice. Since he knew I just took his tour 2 months ago with my girlfriends, he actually altered the tour when I came back a few months later with my husband and son so that I wouldn't be seeing the same things again. Godfrey takes a lot of pride in his work, is a good driver and is a safe driver.

  9. I'm not looking for an island tour--I just want a few minutes to take a couple of pictures. The ship's excursion offers that. Is there some way I can still get to Trunk Bay on my own but also stop at the photo opportunities along the way?

Chirpy - Do NOT do what we did and you should be fine. We got off the ferry in St. John and decided to stop for a bite to eat first. Bad idea. About an hour later, we went over to the taxi area and tracked down a safari taxi guy to bring us to Trunk Bay. He drove like an absolute crazy person b/c we were the only 2 people in his taxi. I guess he wanted to just get to Trunk Bay & get back. He did not stop at all and there was no way to tell him to stop.

In other words, if you go with everyone else, they actually DO stop on the side of the road on the way to Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, etc. In fact, we past by a couple of "full" taxi's pulled off on the side of the road, waiting for people taking quick pictures.

I hope you get some great pictures. It is well worth the trip.

  10. you can go to most any cruiseline's site and they will have the individual ship's deck plan.

Unless I'm missing something, on Carnival's website, the only view is one deck at a time. I want to be able to see a sideways view of the ship so that I can see all levels at the same time.

  11. Does anyone know of a web page or link where you can see a sideways view of the ships?

At the guest services desk last year on the Fantasy, they had these little tri-fold maps with a sideways view of the ship, showing the different levels and the location of the elevators.

We are going on the Pride in a few months & I was wondering if there is a link somewhere showing a sideways view. Does anyone know?

    Thanks in advance.
