  1. I have AT&T as well. If you look at the screen, it should say AT&T in the corner. If it says that, then you are fine. Here are my notes about that:

    Cell phone info for AT&T

San Juan – no charge for talk or texts -- but you might need to be off the ship. (However, if it says AT&T on your screen, you are fine)

St Thomas/St John – No Charge for talk or texts – but you might need to be off the ship (However, if it says AT&T on your screen, you are fine)

    Barbados – Charges *

    St Lucia – Charges *

    St Kitts – Charges *

    St Maarten – Charges *

    Grand Turk – Charges *

    Tortola – Charges *

*Charges are $2.50 per min. Texts are 50 cents each.

Important to first disable data plan, then put phone in airplane mode. Otherwise, roaming charges will occur. Here is a link to info from someone w/ that kind of plan:

While phone is in airplane mode, no voice mail msgs will be able to be left.

Mobile number international – (while in US) – 1800-335-4685

Mobile number international (while outside US) 001-916-843-4685 (toll free call)

Since we left our kids at home last trip, I also need to be in touch. There were times I just used our cabin phone which was amazingly very clear. I don't remember the charges but they were minimal.

  2. Our two boys were reluctant to do the kids club as well. They pretty much refused. Once we explained that we'd not be cruising anymore if they were not open to new things, they decided to give it a try. They had a great time.

As far as motion sickness, there is a product out now called Emetrol. Pregnant women use it for morning sickness but it is safe for kids. Keeping a full stomach is a good approach and if they do get nausea, green apples are available. Just ask anyone in the buffet area and they can find you some.

Your kids will probably look to you to see how you are handling things. If you are enjoying yourself, then they will too. :)

  3. I was curious about this also, as we are sailing in 2 months.

I have written down these names:

    ATD waitress -– Maribel

    Savio and Bobby, Francisco,

    Michael, table 112

    Fun ATD waiter: Julius Ceasar.

    Another good one: Yaco

I think that having a fun waiter/waitress who is engaging is a big part of the whole cruise experience. I've had some really great ones, so maybe that is why I place a lot of importance on that.

  4. I received a $25 casino certificate via email for my upcoming cruise in 10 days. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my reservation, and we're now going on the same ship in August. I don't suppose I can use this on my new reservation, can I?

  5. A friend of mine took a previous photo of her boyfriend, made it black & white, blew up the face, cut it out, copied it, put it on cardboard pieces, and then put his face on tongue depressors and then everyone held up his face in front of their own face. She cut tiny holes in the small part of the irises so people could see him walk in. You could dress up the faces too, mark on them, tattoos, eyeglasses, put paper hats, feathers.

  6. I think if it is after final payment, you need to fill out the form.

I may be wrong on that.

My $40 price drop was indeed denied ... again.

And I pointed out that I was entitled to it ... again.

The lady says the OBC may not show up until Monday though.

  7. There was a drop in price on my upcoming cruise. Final payment not yet due. I filled in the online forms and it said submitted successfully and that it would take two business days. It has now been four days and I have received no email and my online account is still showing the previous amount. I even checked in case they just gave obc but nothing. Is this normal?

I'd call them. I've submitted 2 this week and received a response within a few hours.

  8. Yes - And definitely don't believe it if they say you are not entitled to it.

On Monday, I submitted a price protection form for $20 & was denied. I called them & showed them that we were entitled to it. It was only then that they gave it to me.

Today, I submitted another price protection from for $20 & was denied. I called them again and showed them we were entitled to it. They gave it to me again.

I just submitted another one a minute ago for $40 so I fully expect this to be denied as well.

  9. Ruthless:

My OBC comes from switching to ES when it became available for an add'l $40. Since I've now gotten $260 back in OBC, that proved to be a good bet.

Since that OBC is just money I'm getting back on my original purchase price, I'm hoping the insurance company will reimburse me. My insurance was purchased through a private company.

    OKgirl:

Wow, that is quite a niffy contraption. Our 13 y/o son runs off with my walker all the time so I can just imagine what he'd do with this thing. I'll look into it though. Thanks for your suggestion.

I've bought trip insurance many years and if I cash in on this one trip, then it will have paid for many times I've purchased but never used it.

It is an small fracture so hopefully I'll be up & walking w/ no boot & no problems within 3 weeks . . . or perhaps I'm just in denial. :)

  10. I fell down & have fractured my foot & sprained my arm so crutches are not an option. We leave in 3 wks but I do not want to cancel our cruise unless I have to.

I bought insurance so everything is reimbursed if we decided to cancel up to 24 hrs in advance.

My question is: I have $260 in OBC. Where does that go?

I'd like to move this cruise to August if possible.

    Thanks for any insight.

  11. Speaking of sales, even though today is May 3, why does Carnival’s main page show that you have to book by April 30, which was last Wednesday, in order to get the 123 Days of Summer Sale? Is it too much trouble to change their main page?

Also, on Fareviewer, it still shows April 30th sales too.

    Or am I missing something?

  12. It says they provide beer and rum punch. What kind of beer, Modelo? When do they start serving?

Sorry but I do not know what kind of beer they serve b/c I don't drink that == but it comes in bottles. They also have soft drinks and water. The rum punch is pretty strong and they just pour it in little plastic glasses. You are welcome to as much as you want. Serving begins the moment you get on the bus/van and a passenger is designated as bartender. Serving stops when you arrive at a stop (like the beach or whatever) and then resumes when you get back on the bus/van. You cannot take drinks off unless you have already started drinking it. You cannot take anything "to go."

I was just there in March and we're going on his tour again in June. Great tour.

  13. I started checking pricing way in advance and noted that most were $200 per night, and several required a two-night stay. I got a Hilton Honors Visa card and ended up with a free room at Caribe Hilton. This way, we avoided not only the 2-night minimum, but also that pesky 20% resort fee.

  14. Yes - and I followed that person's advice and got one for myself & then a few weeks later got a whole separate account for my husband. So far, btwn our 2 cards, we've gotten $975 back just since February. Barclay Arrival card has really done well for us.

I should also mention that when we did this, Barclay had a great deal going on where you spend $1,000 in 3 months and get the $400 back. That deal is no longer going on.

  15. Someone on this board suggested the Barclay Arrival World Card rather than the Carnival card. We have had the Carnival card for years, and saved $700 on this year's cruise. So we loved that card.

For the Arrival card, however, EVERY purchase earns 2%. When you redeem for travel (including Carnival) they give you 10% of your points BACK. Plus, a 20,000 bonus for signing up and charging a certain amount the first 3 months.

It's the best rewards card out there for travel.

  16. Sailing the Valor in June & more FTTF just opened up, so now I'm trying to decide whether or not I should get it. I know there are no tender ports, but I normally get it to be able to go straight to the room. For those who recently sailed out of San Juan, what time was your cabin ready?

    Thanks!!

I'd say nay. Not worth it. We were on the Valor a month ago. We checked in at 11:00 and were not allowed to board b/c of "routine" something, so we had to bring our carry-on's all thru San Juan. We finally ended up boarding at about 3:30. This was the main reason I purchased FTTF.

At the end of the cruise, as far as getting off the ship faster, we had an 11:30 flight, so we took advantage of the FTTF to make sure we didn't miss the flight. Even with two marathons going on in San Juan, it was only a 15-20 minute drive to the airport, and we made it to the airport at 9:00-9:30.

Therefore, for this particular port, I'd skip FTTF.
