  1. Just back today, money exchange was easy peasy, I had Euros to convert to CUC. There’s a flat screen monitor showing conversion rates for many currencies including USD.

We got a car on our own 50 CUC an hour but friends negotiated 40. You walk right out from terminal and cars driving by you can easily find one.

The Sky was great much better than when I was in a few years ago. Food in MDR was fantastic better than Adagio’s last night. If they have lamb shank in MDR you have to get it it was phenomenal!!

Good news. How was the car tour?

  2. I read on CC that we cannot take CUC out of the country. I also read that the money exchange closes at 8 PM. We plan to stay out late, and our ship is leaving very early the next morning. I guess our last server or taxi driver is going to get an awesome tip unless anyone has any other ideas in this situation?

I'm not sure this is what they mean by "support of the Cuban people", LOL!

They dont want them taken out because they will never be returned and the currency is old and in poor shape. It is possible to be searched going through customs

  3. We used Cubaoutings for a six-hour shore excursion, from the Veendam, in Havana, Cuba and they were EXCELLENT! One of the best tours we have ever had! We set up our tour with Gloria, who was very prompt answering emails and helping to arrange our tour.

Ray was our guide for the day – He took us on a four-hour walking tour of Old Havana and Central Havana. He was extremely educated about all things Havana and Cuba. He pointed out many everyday things that were uniquely Cuban and had an extensive knowledge of the history and culture of Havana. After our four-hour walking tour, we jumped in a convertible classic car for a two-hour driving tour around the rest of the city. Ray did such a good job showing us around that we want to return to Havana in the near future.

We recommend Cubaoutings for a private tour in Havana.

    How much?

  4. We got a better deal getting Canadian dollars (CAD) than Euros.

Currently $1USD = 0.814 Euros and $1.30 CAD. Seen the other way, 1 Euro costs $1.23 USD, but 1 CAD only costs 77 cents USD. You will avoid the 10% penalty either way and will still pay the 3% fee either way. But you'll save on the exchange rate for Euros vs. Canadian dollars.

Thanks for the tip I will ask the bank about CAD and see if there is less of a cut

  5. Well, looks like the Sky will be leaving at 2pm instead of 5 on our second day, so we are looking for a place where we can have a snack near the port on a square and just do some people watching, etc. in the morning before we have to rush back to the boat.

Any suggestions for someplace that will serve you reasonably fast (maybe within 30 minutes!) no more than 15 minutes away from where the ships dock? Or even ideas for an activity that we can do in a few hours near the port before we sit down for the coffee.

In October my ship left at noon and it was plenty of time to walk straight down the main street from the port. There were several coffee shops and it was nice to mingle with the locals as they walked to work. We went into markets and various shops. Even bought a newspaper from an old man on the street to remember what day we visited. Get up early and enjoy it. You will like it better then the excursion you take the day before

  6. I am looking for the best way to convert USD into Euros. I am doing this because I am going to Cuba and they have a 10% surcharge on USD into CUC which does not exist with Euros. I cannot use my credit cards because they are not accepted in Cuba.

My confusion comes in with looking up the current rate (3/22/18) it shows 0.81384 Euro for $1 USD but my bank is saying 760 Euros for $1000 USD which seems like a steep cut. Atlanta airport is even worse at 740 for $1000 USD. Am I missing a method or is this the best I can do?

  7. Norwegian Cruise Line is making a nominal adjustment to its daily service charges, effective April 1, 2018. Norwegian's discretionary daily service charges make it easy for guests to provide gratuities to the onboard staff dedicated to delivering superior guest service throughout the cruise.

To better address the demands of the enormously successful and the industry's only all-inclusive cruise experience offered on Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun, those ships' daily service charges will be:

    • $19.99 per person per day for inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms
    • $22.99 per person per day for suites

Any guest that has made a booking by March 31, 2018 will have the option of prepaying their service charges at the current rate if done prior to sail date. Guests with existing cruise reservations who have already pre-paid their service charges at the current rate are not affected.

Service charges can be prepaid in the Vacation Summary section on My NCL.

    Sincerely,

    Norwegian Cruise Line®
