She is 17, will turn 18 on the cruise. She says she is  okay  with still going but would feel safer if boyfriend could come with us. I told her no, but if she starts to get scared, me and grandpa will hold her hand the entire time. I could feel her blush in embarrassment  at the thought over the phone. I also asked if she still wants to go and she says yes.

I doubt she's scared, she just wants her boyfriend to go with her. Tell her to stay home if she is that scared. 🙄

Sailed August 31-Sept 5 5 nights. Out of NOLA.  Sea Day, Cozumel, Progresso, Seaday.

4th cruise, first time on conquest class.

first sea day and night were really rough, 3 in our group got a little sick due to motion.

    Decoration and Cleanliness:

I can definitely see where people say decorations on this ship are "gaudy".  I generally don't pay attention to such things but after reading other reviews, I get where they are coming from. For me, decoration is never something to base a cruise on so i just look and move on.  As for Cleanliness, I have no complaints.  I constantly noticed staff wiping down railings, cleaning tables, doors, windows, floors, etc.

    Layout:

I have to say that I liked the layout of the smaller ship.  It just felt cozy to me.  It didn't feel like I was walking forever to get somewhere.  Lines were average during peak times.  Other times there were little to no lines anywhere.  Our rooms were on Deck 9 Lido.  The rear pool is adults only which was nice.  We spent a lot of time in this area.  Drink service was good here. Never had an issue getting chairs.  The area of the main mid ship pool was nice with the "terraced seating" but I must say, I missed the shaded middle deck of the Dream class and Vista class.

    Food:

We ate at the Wok, Guys, Blue Iguana, Deli/Sandwich station, buffet, Pizza Shack, and Your Time Dining.  Wok was ok at best.  Guys never fails to please, Blue Iguana is good (wife loves there breakfast),  Buffet was typical fair although we mostly used it for breakfast.  Pizza Shack was excellent but they seemed to never have enough prepared.  Your time dinning is the only way to go.  This is our second cruise using it and will never do another scheduled seating.  Now, let me add that we were in line at 5:45 each evening and managed to get the same table and same service team.  Our group of 8 were always seated promptly and every evening we were done in just over an hour.  Maybe 1 hour 20 minutes at the very longest.  Food was good.  I did have a veal parmesan that was excellent by cruise standards.

    Staff:

Nothing bad to say here, always friendly and courteous.  Both the stewards and the wait staff called us by name and provided anything we needed.

    Room:

Typical interior room. It was a bit warmer than rooms on other ships.  Interior rooms on vista and dream were definitely cooler.  I did not like having to swipe card to access safe.  Only my card would work, wife's would not.  Somewhat inconvenient at times.

    Entertainment:

The main theater is so much better than Vista its not even close.  We saw the country show and the Studio VIP show.  Both were good.  Killer Beaz in the comedy club was good.  Gave the piano bar a try and didn't go back.  The guy did more crowd interaction and joking than he did doing "sing along" stuff.  We were in there for about 30 minutes and I think he did 3 songs during that time.  Casino was fun, staff was friendly.  VERY SMOKEY,  come on carnival, lets move forward and make it no smoking.  Wife came home sick because of it.  We like to spend time and money in casino but will think twice next time.  Cruise director was not very impressive.  So much so I don't even remember his name. Stuck my head in Red Frog Pub for a few minutes and heard a group in there that sounded pretty good but didn't stay long enough to catch their names.

Overall probably the most relaxing cruise I have been on.  I have now sailed on Dream, Valor, and Vista and would have to rate them in that order.

    Questions?

The safes aren't meant to be opened with two different cards. That is why your wife's card would not work. We never use our Sail and Sign card for the safe...we use an old gift card and have never had any problems!

Thanks for the review...I will be on the Valor for the first time in June!

I’m on the June 16th Cruise, evidently with OfficerAggie, as well. How was the ship itself? Did you have any trouble with the temperature? I’ve heard more complaints than normal about hot cabins on the glory. But I’ve also heard many complaints about it in the past on ships I’ve been on where we’ve always been perfectly comfortable.

Enjoyed the review! Montego Bay is the only port I’ve ever been to where I haven’t been able to decide what to do when we get off the ship. I’ve about decided we’re just going to stay on the ship this time. Don’t really want to since, like you, Cozumel is about as exotic as the neighborhood grocery store at this point. I just can’t decide.

    Anyway, I’m rambling.

We found our room to be a little warm at times, but that was mostly when we had been in port all day. After the ship started to move, the room cooled down.

I will always get off the ship no matter where I am. However,  if I ever go back to Jamaica, it might be one of the very few places that I would book an excursion through Carnival. My safety comes first. Mom and I both think that if my dad or boyfriend had been with us, we wouldn't have had the problems that we did.

Thanks for your great review. I really enjoyed reading it and seeing your pictures. We were on the Glory last year, (it wasn't my favorite ship, but we had a great time though). We are going to take a cruise next year out of NO and plan on driving down there.

P.S. We are in the Kansas City area 🙂

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! KC to NOLA is probably a long haul (it's an 8 hour drive for us)...you can definitely find things to do between the two places!

Our plan was to take our kids to DCB when we are in Montego Bay but after reading your review and a few others I'm not sure I'm comfortable taking a taxi with them. What are your thoughts? Any tips?

Maybe get on one of the buses that makes the different stops instead of a taxi? Power in numbers sort of thing. You could also see if Carnival offers excursions that take you to Doctor's Cave Beach.

Really enjoyed your review! Your Cozumel pics are beautiful. We're doing the bar hop this fall, so we get to see the east side of the island and I'm so excited! I see from your FunTimes that your piano bar entertainer was Zack Daniels. If you didn't get a chance to see him this cruise (my tired brain can't recall from your review at the moment), don't miss him if you sail with him again! He is SO MUCH FUN!

Thank you! I'm sure you will love the east side!

Thanks for posting.  We are sailing on the Glory out of NOLA next year.  I am also from Missouri and my husband is from your town Campbell, MO.  I saw the Campbell Camels shirt and told him what a small world it is.

It is a small world! My mom actually teaches at in Campbell, but she lives in Malden. I teach and work in Puxico!

Thank you for taking the time to do a review, I really enjoyed this one as much as the others.  We haven't cruised since Sep. 2015 and don't have any booked at the moment (land vaca later this year, so no cruise until at least next year) so I really enjoy reviews by others to help with my "cruise fix" when I'm going through withdrawals.  And reviews always give me great ideas for things to do in port.  Next time we get to Cozumel, I really want to check out the east "wild" side.  We've been to Cozumel twice, but never to that side.  Thanks again for the information about Jamaica, something we'll definitely keep in mind if we ever get there on a cruise stop.  The pictures you take are just beautiful and I always enjoy them.

You're welcome! I love doing reviews because it helps me relive my cruise! I highly recommend going to the east side of Cozumel at least once. It truly is a natural beauty!

Thank you for the kind words about my pictures! :)

We had recieved a letter letting us know that priority members should meet in the Golden dining room at 7:00 to be escorted off the ship, so we were awake a little after 5. We noticed that we weren't as close to NOLA as we thought we should be, but we shrugged it off and went to grab a quick breakfast. We were out of the room by 6:45 and made it to the dining room where mom's sail and sign card was checked to make sure she was in the right place and we settled in. A few minutes later they made an announcement that we would be at least an hour late getting back to NOLA because of heavy river traffic. Fine, but they dropped the ball on this one. They should not have waited until we were supposed to be docking to make that announcement. It's not that big of a deal, but I like to be kept informed.

A lot of people were trying to wait in the dining room and the woman at the door was turning them away if they weren't supposed to be there. People were giving her tons of attitude, but she wasn't having any of it! She was (politely) telling them to kiss her butt. I loved it!

Since we had such a long wait, I had time to make my way up to Lido for a quick cup of coffee and then I settled back in. When we finally made it to NOLA, it seemed to take a long time for them to let us off the ship, but mom and I were in the first 5 people off the ship and customs was a total joke. He didn't even make us slow down to look at our passports. We made our way outside where the shuttle was waiting to take us back to Fulton.

Side note...the guys that work at Fulton always call me gorgeous! I know they just want tips, but being called gorgeous by some very good looking men is not a bad way to end a cruise! 😊

We were in our car and on the way back to Missouri by 9:00. People in our Facebook group waited another two hours to get off and apparently someone got arrested when we docked in NOLA,  but who really knows?

All in all, this was an amazing cruise...my favorite one yet! Please let me know if you have any questions!
