  1. Did you send it "in PR" at a PR post office, or did you send it via the ship? If you sent it while in PR...then it's PR's fault. I am not aware of how one sends things via the ship....so can't comment on that.

One can always send mail via the ship in any port- you just buy a stamp from that island (port) and the ship takes care of making sure it gets to the local post office and they are then responsible for it getting mailed

  2. A bit confused. You talk about checks and deposits.

You wrote a check to pay for your cruise expenses?

Or did you make a deposit via mail while on the road?

    No credit card available?

Or, if you are making a deposit, does you bank not do online deposits?

    Confused.

This thread is about mail- I bought a stamp at the front desk on the ship while in San Juan and handed the envelope to that person- who told me I could walk over to the post office and mail it from there- I trusted that NCL would do the same, it took almost 2 months for my mail to get to my bank and get deposited- I don't think my bank 'sat on' it since April- was it Puerto Rico's fault- or the ship's?

  3. I was waiting for funds to be transferred to one bank account, knowing that they would be there during our cruise- I needed to transfer some of those funds to another bank account before the first of the month. So I thought if I sent a check along with a deposit slip in PR ( a US territory) it would get there in time. I never thought it would take over a month to get there

  4. We were on the April 18 2017 Gem cruise out of NYC- I had to wait to mail a bank deposit until we were in San Juan on the 22nd-we arrived home on the 29th and nothing- so I wrote another check- thinking it was just lost- yesterday ( June 19) the check was deposited to my account- was it just misplaced by the ships crew ( maybe sent via China)- you're right, I should have payed the fee and stopped payment- luckily I was covered at both ends

  5. can anyone share menus for Bermuda cruise

I believe the entire fleet is on a 14 day rotating schedule- I can say that shrimp cocktail, escargot, french onion soup, salmon, boneless chicken breast, and steak are available every night- I forget what was on the menu for the first 'chic' night, but lobster and beef wellington were on the second

  6. UBP and SDP are for #1 & #2.

WiFi and Excursion promos are per stateroom.

Wifi is a joke- 250 minutes for our 12 day and it took 10+ minutes just to access -used most just checking email. On =X= last week- unlimited for 2- instant access- very fast- NCL - just a joke

  7. Cabin: Although we were in a balcony vs an ocean view NCL seemed to have the advantage as far as size and the bathroom- not counting the area for the balcony-

    Bathroom-

NCL- glass dividers between the toilet, sink and shower with a bunch of shelf space

Summit- Shower curtain and 2 small shelves on one side of the sink- NCL has the upper there

Cabin: NCL size overall better- layout and storage to Summit

TV- placement better on Summit- along with available viewings and music on TV- Rap /Hip Hop ( NCL) vs Southern Traditional Blues/ light Jazz ( X )

  8. Beverage packages/ Internet- Ultimate on NCL- everything to $ 16:99 included ( price on most drinks inflated) =X= basic- all drinks $9:00 and under- most beers and several white/ red wines and some basic drinks- on =X= to upgrade to what would be their version of 'Ultimate' would cost $ 10 per day per person

On NCL the price of our cruise was the same no matter if you picked the perks or not- but if you picked the beverage package we were charged $ 156.42 pp for the 12 days beverage charge ( Tips?) - On X I think our original booking had us paying and additional $ 200 pp in order to get the 'basic' beverage package along with unlimited wifi for 2, where we got 250 minutes of internet on the Gem- but no added expense for the beverage package- NCL at first look like a better deal pp/ pd- but the added expense for the beverage package- may not have been so great in hind sight

I would spend 10-15 minutes on the Gem just trying to read my email

Internet/ wifi on the Summit was just like home

  9. If I had known at the time I booked the 12 day Gem a couple of months ago and knew I was going to cruise on the Summit last week i would have taken better notes- both are similar in size/ tonnage- length, beam and I think crew- we were in a balcony on the Gem- 12 day rt NYC Caribbean and oceanview 7 day Bermuda. On NCL we had 250 minutes of internet and the Ultimate Beverage package- on the Summit we had Unlimited wifi for 2 and basic beverage package.

Boarding: both were relatively easy- dining on the Gem had more opportunities- main MDR was open along with O'Sheeans, the buffet, and pool bar

Summit - buffet and pool only- very limited seating

MDR- NCL is 'freestyle' we had 'select' ( same thing ) 0n =X=, once on board NCL we made a standing reservation for 6 pm every night, and could decide if we wanted to share or dine alone.

On the Summit I thought I could do the same- found out we could only make reservations one day in advance- we got lucky with both a team in the MDR and the host- we sat with the same team every night after day 2-

    more in a little bit

  10. We have only done Select a couple times so I am admittedly no expert, but on several recent cruises this past year I have noticed that the line for reservations generally was a lot longer than the line for people just walking up. For small groups or couples, wonder if that is the better way to go?

The biggest difference between those with reservations ' early/ late' is that they have a particular table/ wait staff every night- they may seem to wait- but it just looks that way- those of us who make reservations with 'Select' just guarantees us a table at that time. We were very lucky- found a great team- requested them every night and the host was very accommodating - I think she even moved some just so we could sit with our favorite team

  11. Can you tell me if there are any live shows on the ship? We saw Saturday Night Fever last year on Royal Carribean It was really good

    Thank you

They were all 'live'- not sure what your question is- Comedians, magicians, etc were all live- This past week had James Guidice's Billy Joel Tribute, Imagic, Intimate Broadway Caberet, Comedian Phil Palisoul and Wayne Cotter, Captain Kate and IHollywood

  12. On other cruise lines we were able book a standing reservation once on board. I knew things would be crazy the first day on our Summit cruise last week so I made a reservation just for the first day, thinking that once on board we would take a look at the next day's daily and get an idea of what to expect- then make reservations for the week- unfortunately we were told we could only make reservations one day in advance.

So if you have a good size family/ group and like to dine at a certain time I recommend making them before you board ( you can always cancel)

  13. Double thumbs up for Heidi- our 6 hour tour lasted for over 6 1/2 last week. 'Kids' of any age should enjoy the day with Heidi- climbing to the top of the lighthouse, a stop at a beach, drive through the Botanical Gardens, I think the kid's would prefer a burger to the fish sandwich for lunch- along with fries and cole slaw and Heidi provided ice tea and had a cooler full of spring water bottles- we ate across the street from the Aquarium which had 3 giant turtles in an outside pool- very enjoyable and interesting day- well worth it

  14. For those with 'select' dining I recommend making reservations before boarding for at least the first night and Friday's 'chic' night with lobster and beef wellington- I didn't find the lobster to be anything special though. Even though the Cosmopolitan was opened for breakfast the day of debarkation- it was only opened on deck 5- by 8 am it was full and they started seating us in the area that belongs to the other restaurant- however no one mentioned this to the maitre-d- no water, coffee or juice for 20 minutes until the maitre-d finally noticed and re- assigned waiters to our area- ran out of cranberry, tomato and V-8 juice.

  15. just curious Did you leave Bermuda early yesterday. I tuned into the port cam but you were already gone.

Bermuda is an hour earlier than Eastern- 3:30 ish just behind NCL-now we get an extra hour of sleep ( or partying) but we're way ahead today-great day at sea- music by the pool- lot's of 'last minute' deals- tonight was spent saying good byes to all our fave bartenders and wait crew- booked 2 'future' cruises with $ 100 pp down payment with 2 perks- can cancel anytime with no penalties- no brainer

  16. You should have robes. Ask your cabin steward. As far as waiters, I have never had a wait staff team that is anything but stellar. To call anyone the "best" is somewhat unfair to the rest of the hard working restaurant staff.

No robes or slippers- we shouldn't have to ask- there or not. Yes the best! others just got it done- some go beyond- others do what is expected

  17. Some FYI- we are in an OV- deck 3- no robes or slippers, no body wash- just soap bars, shampoo conditioner and body lotion by Gilchrist & Soames in tubes. Internet is much faster than what I'm used to, if you have 'select dining' I recommend making a reservation(s) for at least the first night. The MDR is not open for lunch on port days. If you can- ask for Anish and Singh ( by the back windows) best team- Anish saw us coming in for breakfast today and even though we weren't in his section, delivered our meal- also showed us the next night's menu in order to tweak it- and makes sure we never have to wait for our wine. Singh in the Rendez Vous and Arie in the Cellar Masters are also great.
