  1. If there are no strawberries does the Captain walk around with Ball Bearings in his hand?

yep. they will run out of bananas toward the end of a 7 day. They have to load everything in at embarkation. Although I don't know about longer cruises. I seem to remember some reprovisioning on a 10 day cruise at St. Thomas. Something to do with FDA regulations.

    Forgot to add.

If you really need a banana toward the end of the cruise, ask your waiter in the MDR. They can usually find one. I have also heard that the bars may also have them. (that is probably where my waiter has found them)

  2. There is a rainforest shower, but there is only one and there have been reports lately that the water pressure is not great. It's meant for rinsing off after sauna, etc., but not for taking actual showers. There is no curtain or door.

I will be on the Breeze on 8/1 and will report back re the water pressure in the rainforest shower.

The Rainforest Shower is designed as a low water pressure shower. Sort of like a gentle rain in the rainforest. You will not find extreme water pressure. But the temperature will be more like a rain shower than that of the gym showers. But it does usually have good mood lighting and sound effects.

  3. Rented from Payless many times. Usually no problems. Last rental, I found that they had charged me an additional $5.95 for road service for a single day rental. (Rented through AAA!). Let them know via the survey they sent after the rental. Have told me that they will credit me on my next rental.. Satisfied.

  4. I am not chengkp, but I do know that many hotels are now installing these card switches. Supposedly, also, when the card is in the light switch (in land based hotels) then the electronic cards do not work in the door, adding an additional layer of security.

  5. The only possible explanation is that the friend was a professional photographer and was pursuing her trade. Either by being a photographer for a wedding, or some modeling gig. The cruise contract prohibits conducting business on the cruise. You cannot offer services on board, particularly ones that compete with the Cruise Line.

Or she may have been planning on filming a porno?

  6. this is absolutely false

    False is false.

Bottled Water May Be Tap Water

You will probably be surprised to learn that they get at least 25% of our bottled water right from the tap. Bottlers simply bottle the local tap water, label it, and ship it off to stores. Sometimes they treat it first – sometimes they don’t. We consumers pay up to 10,000 times more per gallon for bottled water than we would pay for tap water.

What disreputable bottler would get bottled water from a tap?

    1. The Coca Cola company – for "Dasani" bottled water. Coca Cola admits this.

    2. The Pepsi Cola Company – for "Aquafina" bottled water. Apparently, Pepsi is not required to tell you this on the label.

Most bottled water is processed with filters and other treatments, but you should read labels carefully. Bottled water that is packaged as "purified" or "drinking water" probably is tap water, and unless it was "substantially" altered, the label must tell you that. However, as noted above regarding the Pepsi Cola Company, sometimes a bottler can get away without telling you.

    Entire article is here.

  7. So, if Grey Goose or Kettle One is 7.95 - what do you think a Grey Goose and Tonic would be? If Grey Goose mixed drinks are more than $10 and exempt from Cheers - there is no point in purchasing Cheers for me.

Maybe, I could order the Grey Goose straight up and a glass of tonic. I don't need the drink to be overly strong, but I don't much care for other vodkas. I think I would rather buy a bottle of Grey Goose for $115 ( highway robbery) for my cabin and buy the bubbles package.

Shot of Grey Goose straight up (over ice) Probably $7.95. Add a glass of tonic. $2.50-3. $9.75-$10.50. Call that a wash versus GG and tonic. Because the Bartender will probably give a little more than a shot in the GG and tonic compared to GG And a Tonic.

  8. Yea it seems pretty funny to those not affected. haha LOL Lets joke some more.

Read other forums and you will see several hundred got sick and are still sick. Now what a coincidence huh? Yea maybe everyone just got the flu at one time, same day, same place who all drank and ate the same food and water.

If they are still sick a week later, it probably was not NORO. Sounds like someone was exposed to Influenza and spread it around. (Another reason to get the Flu shot every year.) Noro usually only lasts 3-5 days. Food poisoning will be 2-3 days.

  9. To expand on GaPearl's Idea. Would you give a birthday gift to your Auto Mechanic because he is changing your oil on his birthday? How about the Cashier at the Grocery? Maybe to your Pastor on his birthday? You are paying for a service. Anything else would be in addition for an additional Service.

Heck I am lucky if I get to take MY Birthday off and I own the company. None of my customers do anything special for me.

  10. Check with one of the local trucking companies based in or near the port that you want to cruise from. You would probably find that they would park you for the duration and make sure that you had transport to and from the port. And they might even have a load for you to take out on the way back. And a load in. that way you can have more money to spend on the cruise.

  11. My father-in-law had a money belt that looked like a regular belt--with a hidden zippered compartment. It looked awkward to use. If I were going, I'd look for something that was less cumbersome. Amazon has one called the Eagle Creek hidden pocket that loops onto your belt and is then tucked into your pants.

HOWEVER, the Pickpockets/Muggers now look for that Nylon Loop over the belt. It makes more sense to have one that is either under the clothes or actually is a Money Belt.

This is the one we sell in my store and I actually own three of them that I use when traveling.

Also a dummy wallet with expired Credit Cards in the hip pocket works. Take only necessary ID and <$50 cash when going ashore. Take one Credit Card.

  12. Although I do not have Verizon, before our last cruise I called the Phone Company to find out which Islands I actually would have service on. They said that Puerto Rico definately (I knew this already), but when asked about St. Thomas or St. John, they said that they contracted with the local carrier to provide service but that it would be $.30 per minute on St. Thomas and $.50 per minute in St. Johns, if service could be found. We did find that at St. Thomas, there are several places with good wi-fi, so we did not use the phone carrier. One is a bakery/Yogurt shop in the new shopping mall halfway between town and Havensight. Password is 'Banana'. Works even whey they are closed. Better wi-fi than the one provided by the mall.

  13. On all the cruises that I have been on, the gyms have an overly abundant supply of towels and disinfectant available for wiping the equipment. And they have at least as much signage as many of the land based gyms that I have been in.

So. I am not sure where you want this discussion to lead.

  14. Just as sort of an Off-Hand Suggestion. You might even want to look at the Handicap Accessible Rooms. Most do not have the "step up" to the Bathroom, and some have room to have a cot put at the end of the bed to make it a little longer.

Your best bet would be to contact your cruise line of choice and ask for "Special Needs" (Being 7 foot tall, you probably have special needs). See what they suggest.

  15. The trip from Ketchikan to Juneau, among other parts of the Southeast channel, does go through the Gastineau channel. Which can narrow to about one mile before arriving at the dock in Juneau.

And to visit Ketchikan, it is necessary to pass through the Tongass Narrows.

    http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&sqi=2&ved=0CDgQFjAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.seapa.com%2Fwaterway%2FTongass%2520Narrows%2520VWG.pdf&ei=UbUgVf-zA6PbsASVj4G4Bg&usg=AFQjCNHkCnTo1AFwbYrRxiY6UXYMWMArxw&sig2=AfYTxuCocE5kBa0d_QtYZg&bvm=bv.89947451,d.cWc&cad=rja

And you will find that in both cases, the channel is within 200 meters of the shore.

You will also find that in both cases, the ship will have a local Pilot for much of the passage through these narrow waters.
