  1. Only posted here because I didn’t want to post to all individual lines board and I frequent the Carnival boards. Is there a more appropriate centralized board to post this question, I will surely post it there if one exists. Thanks

I just posted ths in Ask a Cruise Question in General Cruise Discussion Board.

    Thanks

  2. Hi, I have sailed Carnival, Royal and NCL. I have not had a bad cruise on any of them but would like to try other lines. My only “requirement” is with dinner attire in the MDR. I will absolutely NOT wear a tie. I want to be comfortable at dinner and I am definitely NOT comfortable wearing a tie.

I have no problem with dockers and a nice polo or buttondown shirt, just NO tie. What othercruise lines would I be able to dress like this, NO tie, during normal dinner nights (not formal/elegant nights, I know a tie would be required on these) other than the three I have already cruised.

I would appreciate any assistance the valuable members ofCruise Critic can give.

    Thanks

    PS, did I mention I don’t like ties 😊

  3. Because this was on the Carnival board, I thought you were talking about Carnival. Princess doesn't require a tie.

  5. We're getting ready to go on the Carnival Splendor with my family in a few weeks. There are 6 of us with 3 Aft Balcony cabins. I know that 2 of them are connecting and we've put our youngest daughter in in there with her friend. My question is who do we ask to open the door between the balconies, the steward or guest services? When is the best time to ask? Before the cruise or can it wait until you get on?

    TIA

The steward can unlock the inside connecting door. For the balcony divider you need to go to guest services. One from each room will need to sign to have it opened. It usually gets opened the next day, not on boarding day.

  6. What's the best time to arrive at the port these days if you have FTTF?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Kadeeu, I am on the Pride right now. We had FTTF and arrived at the parking lot at 10:55am. Guard told us lot will not be open until 11:30 to come back. I asked if we could wait since we were not from the area and he was nice enough to point us to a spot to wait. At 11:10 they opened the lot to priority and FTTF guests. We were parked by 11:20 and standing in line to enter the building. Building opened at 11:30 and we had our sign and sails cards by 11:45 and went to wait area until boarding began. We boarded about 12:15 and dropped our carry ons in the room and were at Guy's burgers by 12:30.

  7. how about this, you're not in a ghetto, most cruisers are honest family people. Why would you go to someone else's room and take a key that is essentially unusable.

So crime does not exist outside of ghetto's? This statement is just wrong on so many levels.

  8. For phone calls on your IPhone check out the app Viber. It is calls placed over wifi. I used it a lot while on my cruise and calls to others that have the Viber app is free. Calls to people/Land Lines that do not have the app is only 1.9 cents a minute if you call via the app. Call clarity is very good. Highly recommend. Saved me a lot of money as I to have to keep in touch with work. So download Viber and have your parents download it and calls are free as long as your connected to wifi. Play with it before you go on the cruise to see how it works.

  10. You may also want to check out the app viber. You do have to purchase an internet package while on the ship but if the person also has viber call are free. If the other person doesnt have viber or you are calling a land line it is only .019 cents a minute. We did this for our last cruise to keep in touch with older parents (who did not have Viber) and only spent .30 cents on calls.

  11. Not sure if this has already been reported... Before my cruise on the Sun this week it appeared that iConcierge was not going to be available for our cruise. We already had the app on our phones so we decided to see if it was available once we were on the ship and to our surprise it was and has been working well for messaging. One problem making calls is that one of our 3 phones can hear the other person, but no one can hear the person on that phone.

I was also surprised to see unlimited internet access available for $175 (I need internet access for my business - never truly on vacation).

This has been a great cruise and Alaska is amazing.

We had the same issue with hearing the other person when we first used it earlier this week until we noticed a pop up when you make a call that asks if iconcerierge can access your microphone. Make sure you answer yes or the mic will not work.

  12. 2 things come quickly to mind:

    1) On the 3rd evening of a 8 day cruise the Matre'D came over to our table and saw my picky DD with only a Caesar salad and French Fries (3rd straight day of the same thing). He asked her if there was one particular food she would eat he would see if he could get it for her. After much prodding, she finally said she liked the BLT's from room service. Every night from then on there was a BLT waiting for her when we got to dinner.

    2) I went to sign up for a Texas hold em tournament on next to last day and it was all ready full. The cage told me there was one more tournament the next day but signups would not begin until that days tournament was over. I said ok and went to play some 3 card poker. Went back to the cage while the other tournament was still going on and the person in front of me was "discussing" with the casino host as to why the next days tournament was already full and that days tournament was still going on. It appears that while the Host was checking in the players for that days tournament someone asked if there were any others. He said yes tomorrow there was one more. He then let the entire table sign up for the final tournament before theirs even began. The guy in line with me told the host that wasn't fair, sign ups were to not begin until the tournament was over. He said he would call the Manager to see what could be done. The manager came and we (I was now involved hoping they would open another tourney and sign up) explained the situation. He totally agreed with us and said the best he could do was open another tournament when tomorrows was done (just what I was hoping for). As we signed up for this new tournament the Casino Manager offered to buy us a drink. I declined but thanked him anyway and went on my way, just happy to be signed up for the tourney. When we went to dinner that night, about half way through our dinner, the bar attendant comes to our table and tells us the Casino Manager ordered a bottle of wine for us on him. This came as a great surprise and I thought a great gesture on the Managers part.

  13. I was on the Liberty Christmas week and paid $89.00 for 240 minutes if my memory serves me right. Pretty sure it was $109.00 for 480 minutes and $59.00 for 120 minutes. They were still using the old wifi plans.

  14. Hummm.....too many have mentioned about vibrations where I have not had any on my past 10 cruises knock on wood lol. Anybody else care to give their comments, we still deciding, Adventure of the Seas or Carnival Liberty.

Sitting in stateroom 7352 on liberty right now. No excessive vibration here so far this week. Just normal vibrations I have felt on all my cruises to date.

Having a great time. Service is exceptional, best dining staff of all my cruises so far. Stateroom attendant is hardly seen but always fullfills requests and room is always immaculate.

Food is very subjective and I have no complaints. Have always found something to my liking and is served hot and very tasty.

  15. I've booked early saver last 2 and current cruise (1 Balcony and 1 Inside each cruise)

$500.00 and $1100 OBC on past 2 and currently $730 on this coming X-mas cruise.

BTW, I thought prices I originally booked were great prices prior to reductions.

    Extremely Happy with Early Saver

  16. My Christmas 2014 cruise dropped dramatically. The cabin that was paid in full dropped $450.00 so now have $500.00 OBC ($450.00 for reduction plus $50.00 OBC in promotion).

The one that needed to be paid by November 20th dropped $400.00. In order to get the $400.00 reduction had to pay in full today. Paid in full with a BIG smile on my face and now also have a $50.00 OBC for this cabin also.
