  1. I agree. Seating in the MDR is reserved seating for those that chose either early or late dining and I highly doubt you would be able to go there for dinner at 6pm each evening with select dining unless you made special arrangement with the Maître'd, and you would only be able to do that after you board if at all. I think one of you will have to make the switch.

    Enjoy your cruise :)

  2. After many cruises with Select, our answer would be "Maybe." We've had trips where we were able to secure the same wait team every night (or almost every night) and others where it has been hit or miss. With Select, they can TRY to maintain a specific table/staff reservation, but frequently that gets pushed aside, for example, when the occupants of the table prior to your time decide it would be a good night to spend 2 hours dining. No way you are going to get that table.

Best chances, as others have mentioned:

+ Book in advance, online, for specific time.

+ Check with the restaurant desk immediately upon boarding. They will be at the desk for Select from boarding time onwards.

+ The earlier you make your reservations (meaning time wise), the better chance you will be able to maintain the same table/staff since you likely will be the first pax at that table.

Totally agree with ECCruise. On Reflection in February, after our first dinner, we attempted to make reservations in Select Dining for the same table each night for between 7:30 and 8pm and it was not possible. 6:30-8 are the prime dining times in Select and if you don't pre-book it early, you may be out of luck. In fact, we did have to wait a few minutes each evening for a table. By the 3rd night, we realized that if we want to eat at 8pm, we needed to be there by 7:45. Not a problem for us, just a reality. They gave us a buzzer and we went to the nearest bar to wait.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  3. Lucaslounger, I see you are also from Canada. I had the same thing happen to me recently along with 4 other couples who booked the same cruise.

I booked the cruise directly through Celebrity (in CDN funds) and then transferred it to my Canadian TA. A week or so later I received an email from Celebrity stating that my reservation number had changed due to a "change in currency". Then checked "My Celebrity" and saw my reservation had been cancelled!! Of course I panicked and called my TA immediately. She contacted Celebrity and learned that for some strange reason, they had to change the reservation number, but nothing in the reservation had actually changed. Even Celebrity couldn't explain the reason for this, but in the end, it was fine.

I've transferred other reservations and never had this issue, but since it has happened to me twice now and my friends once each, it seems to be the new normal. I'd verify with your TA, but I wouldn't worry about it.

    Have a great cruise :D

  4. Is booking the entertainment the job of the cruise director? I'd rather see more or better singers/entertainers than seeing money spent on production shows.

The cruise director does not book the entertainment on the ship, that is done by Celebrity's Entertainment staff at head office. The CD's job is to schedule the entertainment for each cruise. There is no doubt that some of them do a better job of this than others ;)

  5. We are 3 couples looking at a Silhouette sailing - if we are mid-ship, can we get adjacent rooms and have the balcony dividers removed to make one big balcony? Also we are all couples - will we be able to book adjacent cabins (thru Celebrity) or will the cruise line want to hold back the cabins that accommodate 3 or 4 persons? It is a fall sailing, not holiday time so I would think there would be few families onboard that wanted these 3 / 4 person rooms.

    Hi suec12,

I believe the only cabins the Celebrity might "hold back" would be accessible cabins (unless you need one) and the family cabins. All other categories are up for grabs and if you can find 3 cabins together that you want, I'm sure you won't have any trouble booking them regardless of the number of passengers they will accomodate. We have 4 balcony cabins in a row booked on Equinox.

With respect to the balcony dividers, you can ask your room stewarts to open them for you.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  6. I wonder if Indulgence is still operational?

Indulgence was done on Reflection last week. The cost was $20 p/p and I believe it sold out.

They had several shows during the week called "Society X". They were held in various venues (atrium, pool deck, solarium, martini bar and cellar masters). We attended two of them. One in the atrium which involves the dancers doing an "alice in wonderland" type theme with them dancing on the stairs and in the elevators. The other one was called "shadows" or something like that. It was in the Martini Bar and featured dancers dancing behind large screens so you only saw their shadows. The music was pretty good, but the themes themselves were a bit strange.

  7. This might sound a bit boring, but the bartenders on our recent Reflection cruise have now mastered the Bloody Ceasar. Last year they didn't have a clue how to make a good one .

There were a LOT of Canadians on board that ship and a LOT of ceasars consumed. I had a couple each night before dinner and they were perfect :D

  8. Are there umbrellas?

I had skin cancer 3x's. I need to sit under an umbrella.

    Hi Feelin' Nauti',

I don't recall seeing any umbrellas, but I have a vague recollection of the clamshells that somebody mentioned. I'm guessing you would have to rent them.

Like you, I can't sit in the sun and I was able to find lots of shade at Columbus Cove which is the beach farthest away from the ship. Also the least crowded that day. There is transportation available that will take you from the entrance of Labadee to Columbus Cove or you can walk. It's probably a 10 minute walk at the most.

    Enjoy :D

  9. The reason for the multiple reductions in the weight limits is purely a safety issue because of the high winds. The only potential embarrassment would be if there was a woman who had signed up to do the zip line that weighed over 180 lbs and she would no longer be allowed to participate.

What would you have liked the people that run the zip line do differently? They are looking out for the safety of all people involved in the activity, and they are not concerned about the ramifications of the possible embarrassment of a potential zip liner.

I totally understand WHY the weight restrictions are put in place and I wouldn't want it any other way! My point is simply this. The weight restriction reductions should have been mentioned prior to signing up when we arrived at the port. It had already been reduced to 200 pounds at that time and went down another 20 pounds by the time we arrived for the flight. Where I come from, there are a lot of people (Men and Women) who weigh more than 200 pounds. Knowing in advance would have saved a lot of time and aggrevation and potential embarrassment to anyone who may weigh more than the posted weight restriction.

  10. The weight restriction is clearly listed on the Celebrity website and if you wait until you get on board to sign up, I am sure it is in print form as well.

    Hi SNJcruisers.

I am well aware of the weight and height restrictions listed on the Celebrity website, however, due to strong winds the day we were there, that restriction was repeatedly reduced. It started at 275, went to 250, then to 200 and then to 180. There is a big difference between 275 and 180. If you already purchased this excursion, you wouldn't have known about the drop in the weight restriction until they ask you to step on the scale which could be potentially embarrasing.

  11. My wife and I upgraded as soon as we boarded in Miami for our January cruise and we did not pay any tax.

We initially had a sticker, but we I was issued a new card it said PLL (or something like that). It was printed on the card and I am not sure that I would call it a logo.

Like Jagoffee, we did not pay tax when we upgraded in Miami.

The pre-purchased classic package will have the letters "CALL" printed on your seapass. When you upgrade, they will put a sticker on the card. We also had to get the cards redone halfway through the cruise and the new card said "PALL" for the premium package with no sticker.

Just a word of warning, we were charged for a couple of drinks after we changed our seapass cards. The sticker seems to ensure that the server knows you have the premium package. We had the charges reversed at Guest Services without any problems though.

  12. That's got to be embarrassing for cruisers.

Definitely has the potential to be extremely embarrassing. We felt that this should have been clearly outlined for someone who wanted to sign up for this excursion. They don't tell you about the scale until you are just about to board the bus to go to the top of the zipline!

  13. Can Sky Suites use Barefoot, and are the cabanas free?

Are passengers weighed before using the zipline?

Yes, they weigh you before using the zipline and if you are even 1/2 lb more that the limit they will not let you do it.

In fact, the system they use is very poor. You book and pay for your time slot online, on the ship or when you get off in Labadee with no mention about the weight restrictions. It is posted but you would have to really look for it. When you arrive at your predetermined time, they get you to fill out a waiver and then when all that is done they weigh you. If you are over the limit, they apologize and send you on your way with a receipt to get a refund. It would have been a lot easier if they had just mentioned the weight restriction before you signed up. Would have saved a lot of time and disappointment.

  14. Are cabanas only available for suites through Celebrity? We're heading to Labadee in two weeks and I've been wondering how this works. What would you guys recommend doing? We'll have lots of on-board credit.

Barefoot Beach is a private beach for suite guests only and the cabana's there are also for suite guests only.

There are also cabanas available at Nellies Beach and they are for anyone to book. I recently saw a video about the cabana's (probably on youtube) and they looked like a great idea. We would probably rent one if we visited Labadee again. They look great.

  15. Greetings

Should be $11.80/day with the new 18% grat rate. You must upgrade for all remaining days of the cruise.

    Good Sailing

    Tom

I concur with tunaman2011, it's $11.80/day per person although both people do not have to upgrade.

We were able to do it as soon as we boarded Reflection last week. There was a table set up by the gangway and we had our upgraded packages immediately :D

    Enjoy your cruise.

  16. Just off Reflection on the weekend. We visited Labadee last week and some of the attractions were cancelled due to high winds. Not sure about the roller coaster, the flight line was operational but the weight restriction was lowered from 250 lbs to 180 lbs. The jet ski's and parasailing weren't available either. Even without the extras, we had a fabulous day in Labadee. Fantastic beach, lovely lunch and drinks included, what more can you ask :o

  17. I just got off Reflection on Saturday and we heard from one of the bartenders that the Molecular Bar would be closing :(. I believe it will be in the May timeframe.

It has to do with a contract that is expiring with the originator of the Molecular Bar idea. The bartender had no idea what will replace it, but I'm sure it will be another high priced idea to keep the premium drink packages worthwhile.

  18. I too will be on deck 7 in October.

Is there noise from the Hideway early morning.

We stayed in a cabin on deck 7 right beside The Hideaway last year and loved it so much we booked the same cabin for 3 upcoming cruises. No noise at all and very close to the coffee station :)

  19. Another fan of Jordan Peterson:) I always enjoy listening to him and

hopefully one day will be able to do that again.:)

I have also seen Karen Grainger and she is terrific!:D...if she has been

with Crystal for the past couple of years? She was with Celebrity

    before then......I can't remember when I saw her:eek:.....but I am almost

positive it was on SUMMIT.....she is really good!!!!

I saw Karen on Crystal Symphony in October and she had an awesome production show with singers and dancers. She has been on that ship for over 2 years! She told me her contract is up in February and she will be back to ship hopping on various lines including Celebrity, RC, HAL etc starting in March :)
