Apparently you haven't read this entire thread. I posted earlier that I believe that it would cost about $2000 per boat.  However, not all would have to be floated through. Some of the smaller (turtle-shell) might be stored on deck, but that would require cranes on each end and supporting cradles. Shipping the large tenders by train would also require cranes, plus the costs and difficulty of getting them to/from the train, plus the train cost. That might all add up to more than $2000 each.

Or maybe the Canal Authority will let the ship just go through one time with the boats in place. I'm sure HAL has calculated the best way. We'll just have to watch.

You are correct. I quote a post when I read it .

You overstate the reach of government.  No government agency ruling would withstand a court challenge on the basis of "they weren't in our jurisdiction, but they disobeyed our restrictions anyway".  Not sure that the State Department can make a no travel order for a specific form of travel, as opposed to travel to a particular country.  News flash, when you cruise on a foreign flag cruise ship at any time, you do so without the protection of the US government.

News flash, I am not overstating the reach of the US government I believe you are seriously underestimating it. Do you really think any cruise line wants to get in a pissing contest with the US government?  You know the government can close our ports, including Alaska and Hawaii to foreign  flagged vessels anytime time they want?
Translation, cruise line denied entry cruise line out of business.

It has been suggested on another thread that she could possibly remove the lifeboats for the transit and then restore them on the Pacific end.  They could follow the ship through the locks like ducklings behind their mother! Or the lifeboats could go through the old locks.

I would think that would be expensive as they would probably be charged canal transit fees for every lifeboat. It might be cheaper to send them by train.

Of course it is only valid in US waters, since the US has no jurisdiction anywhere else, though we may think so.

US may not have jurisdiction anywhere but the US however they have Hugh influence everywhere. Do you honestly think a mainstream cruise line such as RC wants to get in a pissing contest with the CDC?

Think about it.  RC decides to go against the order and the State department or the coast guard or every other Us Government organization collectively determine that no RC ship will be allowed into a US port maybe forever. I think the threat of that happening would deter Cruise-lines from sailing during the duration of this order.

in addition the state department can issue a no travel Order for American citizens relative to cruise ship travel world wide. That one mean if a US passport holder were to board a cruise sailing from a foreign port they would have to do so without the protection of the US government and most likely would not be able to protect their trip with travel insurance. Who, in their sound mind, would board a cruise ship under those terms?  Certainly an insufficient number to make the cruise cost effective for the cruise line.

Prices are up not down. People are trying to use fcc to book and rcl policy seems to be to raise prices. Lots of threads like yours wishing and hoping prices drop, but so far reality is they arent dropping.

Maybe read thru some other threads speculating on future prices up or down? And why people think up or down. There are lots hoping for cheaper prices like you.

I got 3 deposits they can use, one deferred deposit. They are already getting future deposits so people can apply their fccs

Lower prices and larger deposits wouldnt help for very long since I expect my fcc to be applied to deposits and get some refunds on them.

I would like you to tell me how you are seeing prices as being up, these prices for one year from now seem steady or lower.  columns are inside, oceanview and balcony and suites.

Well we will see won't we?  since neither of us has a crystal ball we are only expressing an opinion.

My thought was simply a cheap way for the cruise lines to raise cash.

Oh and they can do both can't they?  Why not offer very substantial price reductions, of say 25-50%, for a booking with a 500 or 1000 PP non-refundable deposit?  RCL is already offering reduced fares tied to non refundable deposits so there is logic in expanding that approach.

  7. In the coming weeks and moths RCL, and all other cruise lines are going to need serious cash infusions to remain in business. As proved by CCL’s recent credit terms the cost of credit has reached junk bond status and those rates won’t be sustainable.

So here’s the food for thought. RCL dramatically drops the price on 2021 and 2022 sailings but ties those price drops to much larger non refundable deposits. Isn’t the best source of interest free cash customer deposits?

US has 1.1 million people with HIV/AIDS, with a little under 40,000 new cases a year and around 16,000 deaths. Hopefully no one gets a tainted blood transfusion, especially since screening laws have been relaxed, or the disease mutates and becomes more communicable.

I, for one, do not go on a cruise planning to get a blood transfusion. However, I do go on a cruise planning to breathe. Pretty big difference there, imho.

Go to www.halfacts.com You'll find some photos of NS 6214, and also Koningsdam (sister ship) 6233. These will give you a pretty good idea of aft facing V cabins.

Thank you!  In those pictures the Balcony looks pretty small, I guess I am just missing my Celebrity M class aft balconies.

  10. I confess to being a Celebrity "lifer".  However, we have booked a transatlantic on the Nieuw Statendam and have a question about the cabin as I can't find any info on line.  Cabin number is 5225 which is a category VS aft facing.  Does anyone have any info on this cabin?  TYIA

That's interesting...Just checked X site...nada. It does not come up on any TA site either. I think it might be something like if you actually tried to book it, it won't let you. Not sure. But thx.

Just did a complete booking and had no problem booking a C2 cabin

Hey, Neil!! Hope all is well. What's available? Eclipse 10/20/19? Where?

Many cabins available in many categories. I use the celebrity site reserved for travel agents but you could try the celebrity web site or simply call celebrity directly. If you booked through a TA I suggest you call them and have them do the work.

    Good lick.

    Oh dear.

Got a call from my TA this morning- we have two connecting concierge staterooms, one for DH and myself, one for our kids (4 and 7) + their babysitter.

Well, turns out the room they booked the 3 of them in does not actually have a sofa bed or any accommodation for a third person.

No one seems to know how this happened.  I am very confident in my TA, I have booked with this agency for years and have three bookings with them currently.

They offered to move the kids + nanny to another location that would accommodate them but we require connecting rooms.

Not sure what the resolution is going to be, but hoping we get one soon.  Very stressful, not what I wanted for my vacation.

Anyone had something similar happen? What was the resolution?

Did you receive a celebrity guest copy confirmation from your travel agent?  It is not possible to book three people in a cabin that will only accommodate two passengers.  I know you shouldn't say not possible but really the booking system won't allow it.  If the TA didn't send you a Celebrity guest copy ask them for one it will have all the relevant information, cabin number and a cost break down per passenger.

Now if there actually was a Celebrity mistake and the guest copy clearly shows three guests it is Celebrity's problem to resolve if it doesn't then it's on your TA.  Good luck and I hope it all works out.

Here is a comparison how overpriced is the Edge:

Transatlantic April 2019 Starting prices per person

    Infinity 14 Nights $999

    Reflection 14 Nights $1,249

    Edge 15 Nights $10,499

Now that not really a fair comparison.  The Edge price is for a suite and the infinity price is for an inside.
