It's about one of the biggest money making scams aboard a Carnival ship. Other than the art auctions :classic_blink:

Agreed.  Such a waste of money.  The little amount of fun doesn't come close to making it worth it.

    IMO

  2. If he's working and not getting paid, won't he eventually get all of the back pay when the government reopens?

So if he has to make a large payment in February/March after getting his back pay, not a big deal, right?

But yeah, I agree with the idea of just giving him Carnival gift cards if you want to help.

That's the big question.  The wine that's available at the stores near the pier-do they even have screw top bottles?

Not sure what exact stores are near the pier but I'm sure any local CVS/Walgreens/etc will have screw top wine bottles (yes, you can buy wine from drug stores here in FL).

If you find a Total Wine or something similar before you board, even better. I'm sure they have a much bigger selection of screw top wine bottles.

    - Bring a bottle of wine on the ship, legally

    - Pour myself a nice sized glass

    - Bring to dinner

    - Save a million dollars

I would "lose" a million dollars in dry cleaning after I spill the glass of wine on my shirt after having to carry it all the way to the dining room.  : )

But yeah, bringing a bottle of wine on the boat is a great idea.  I recommend a good twist off one so you don't have to worry about finding a corkscrew.

That looks worse to me. On the old lineup I could sometimes find things I liked on TBS, TNT, TCM or TruTv. The new lineup....I don't watch any of those channels.

I agree.  I think the old line-up is much better.

  6. We will also be on this Saturday's sailing. How was embarkation and debarkation? We will be flying out of FLL on an early flight (11AM) and want to know how early can we debark (self-assist).

Would you know if there is any shower facilities at the gym, not the Spa?

    Thank you.

My wife and I were off the boat about 8 AM. Then out of the self park garage by about 830 AM. Made it back home in FL on the west coast about 1045. You should be fine with an 11 AM flight out of FLL.

Not sure about the showers at the gym. The gym was nice enough though (I showered back in room).

  7. Do you have any of the funtimes or know what movies were playing in the dive-in(outside). Also, if you all went to any beaches, we are still trying to figure out what to do and see. I will be limited on most excursions because I'm pregnant, but we are leaving Saturday for the 8 day Southern cruise. Thanks.

At work and don't have the fun times in me but some of the dive in movies were:

    Star Wars

    Thor: Ragnarok (Great movie)

    Wonder (daytime)

    Jumanji (daytime)

    Peter Rabbit

    Coco

  8. I agree the pay out is not high enough. But, how do you really estimate how many packages they sold? My husband and I bought 1. So, 1,000 people in the room could be 500 packages.

And an exaggerated 1000 people could really be 600 with 300 packages sold.

But, yeah, they should pay out more.

Good point. I didn't think that some of those people are there just to watch.

Regardless, it's still insane how much money Carnival makes on the game and how bad the player's return is on the game.

  9. My wife and I just returned from sailing on the Vista and had a great time. The ship had many things that was haven't experienced on a cruise before (RedFrog Pub/Brewery, Thrill Theater, IMAX Theater, etc.). We had a balcony room in the Havana area and loved it. It was nice having the space during the day to enjoy the pool area. The dining room wasn't as "plain" as some on here indicated. However, I will agree that the elevators were super slow. They should address that. It's like they don't close fast enough and tend to linger on floors too long. It wasn't the that elevator area was crowded by any means.....just slow elevators.

Food was good. We enjoyed the tacos and burritos at the Blue Cantina and the pizza 24/7 (probably best pizza I ever had on a cruise ship). We did the specialty restaurants (italian, asian, and steak). They were good but none were spectacular. I would say that JiJi's (asian) was the best and we really didn't expect it to be.

BINGO was a rip-off (sorry, Richie Rich). See my other thread on that.

Other than that, it was an awesome cruise. Please feel free to ask any questions.

  10. I won't go as far and say it's a "scam" because that word means different things to different people but I will say that Carnival is making an insane amount of money on BINGO. For example....

We just got back from an 8 day cruise on the Vista. It was a wonderful trip but I was very disappointed with BINGO. The way it works is they sell different BINGO packages that are $20, $30, or $40. The more you spend, the more BINGO cards you get. We bought the $40 package and I think the majority of the BINGO players at our session did as well because many of the sign up sheets they were handing out already had the $40 box checked (hmmmmm). Anyway, this session was a $4,000 jackpot BINGO and consisted of three games. The host, Richie Rich (who was quite entertaining), mentioned that he thought there was a good 1,000 people or so in the room. So right there....let's say on average, everyone bought a $30 BINGO package. That is $30,000 that Carnival just took in. Remember that. $30,000.

The first game was your standard straight line BINGO. Cool. The winner got $350. Okay. The second game was the six-pack game where you had to get six numbers grouped together like a "six-pack". The winner got $450. Okay. The final game was called "black-out" and you had to get every single number on your card checked off. What is that...like 45 numbers? Anyway, they have a rule where if so many numbers are called (I think it was forty something....definitely no more than fifty) and there is no winner, the jackpot prize if void and they go to a back-up prize. Yes, you read that right. They will not be giving out the $4,000 jackpot prize. The winner ended up winning something like $750.

    What a rip-off, right?

Even if Carnival gave out the $4,000 on the last prize, they are still up $25,200 on one session of BINGO ($30k minus $350 minus $450 minus $4,000).

And finally, although it was fun at times and like I said, Richie Rich is an entertaining guy......the is no where close to being worth playing.

    STAY AWAY.
