  1. Visiting St. John on the NCL Getaway on Sunday, March 5th from 9-6. We are 2 seniors with back issues so long walking or climbing or hiking anywhere is a no-go, But we want to see/do some fun things on the island that day. Been to St Thomas before and going again the next day.

Other things we should see in St. John? There are limited ship tours left. Nothing historic/museums. Beaches are good.

    Your advice is appreciated.

  2. My husband and I - cruisers in our 60's staying in a family balcony - will be sailing on the Norwegian Getaway for 12 days on February 26th. Before other cruises, I have asked the question on this forum for past cruisers of the ship to share what they liked BEST, what we should definitely try, and secrets you wish you knew before you sailed.

So if you've sailed the Getaway, what restaurants, activities, shows did you like best, would not miss if you were us?

What foods would you definitely suggest?

What secrets did you discover about the Getaway that you wish you knew before sailing?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Hello cruisers. We are a couple in our early 60's who has been to San Juan before. We will be there again in March on the Norwegian Getaway from 4PM to 10PM on one day, a Wednesday. We have limited mobility, so no walking tours or hiking.

We have done city tours, the beach. We do not want to see any more historical monuments, museums, churches. We want some type of interactive experience, like a cooking class, how jewelry is made... things like that. Is there anything interactive that would be available in that night time slot? I know it's a reach, but I had to ask.

Anything except dancing lessons. My husband is a hard NO on that.

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

  4. Hi. Sailing on tne Celebrity Summit on 5/23. We heard that Bermuda Day will occur on May 27th in Hamilton. And that busses and ferries run on limited holiday schedules. Main parade starts at 1 pm. Will it be prohibitive/cutting it close to get back on board the ship by 5pm ( we sail away then.) I presume everyone will be exiting at one time, with a premium for transportation options.

    Advice, please?

I just realized that the only full day my sailing (Celebrity Summit 5/23/22) has in Bermuda is 5/27, and that is Bermuda Day.

Has anyone been in Bermuda during the holiday? Is anything open? Do busses run? Suggestions for things to do?

I am on the same sailing.  We're in Bermuda for 3 days. Right?

For a real treat get an Affogato. Get a scoop of vanilla gelato then take it to Cafe al Bacio and have them put a shot of espresso on it. YUM!!!

That sounds great, kenb, "IF" we liked coffee. But thanks for the suggestion. Others may love it.

  7. Hello, we are cruising to Bermuda on the 23rd on Celebrity Summit. We are older, with back problems, limited walking. We saw info about the Blue Hole Lagoon, walking there, and then Cafe Ole for the best fish sandwiches.

Is this really manageable for people with limited mobility? Can we walk into the lagoon easily - no climbing rocks to get in or out?

Is it an easy walk - to there from the bus, and then to the cafe?

We would appreciate any tips you have for us.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

  8. These are WONDERFUL! It may seem "not such a secret" to you, but to new cruisers on the Summit, these can enhance their experience exponentially. We may miss these altogether otherwise. Besides, I love it when people don't have to say, "I wish I had known that before I went." Keep on posting!

  9. Hello. My husband and I (in our 60's) are hoping to do a romantic sunset cruise while in Bermuda this May on a Celebrity cruise. I haven't been there in years, and I am not a fan of using the cruise line's higher priced and packed excursions, so please let me know what you recommend.

I see there are glass bottom boat tours, and catamaran tours. Which is the best, and from which vendor?

    We appreciate your advice.

  10. I've been on many cruises before, but never on Celebrity. My husband and I (early 60's) are excited about our first Celebrity Summit cruise in May 2022 to Newport, Bermuda, Charleston. As with other cruises, I have asked veterans what their most magical ah-ha moments were... secret spots we should check out, "wish I knew that before" tips, must-do things about the Summit that no one tells you.

Let me know your secrets! Thanks, travel friends!

  11. Here was our review of the cooking tour as posted on Trip Advisor. My husband and I were on a cruise stopping at Cartagena for part of the day and did not want to see the stock tours of old forts, churches, museums and shopping offered by the cruise ship. We wanted to go where the locals go, eat what they eat. And therefore when we saw this tour offered by Duran Duran - a Cooking Lesson & Market Tour - we jumped at the chance. It was exactly as advertised. Duran and his wife Maria and son Andres are wonderful hosts, and so open to you sharing their lives, culture and history. The trip to the open market is eye-opening - not for people who aren't good on their feet. And a little but scary... you are clearly not in the best part of town. You also need to be able to move through the stalls of vendors and keep up with Maria to find the best and freshest bargains of the day. It was unbearably hot in the labyrinth of the primitive market stalls. But once you emerged and arrived at their home, our cooking lesson was wonderful, fun and so engaging... and the meal absolutely delicious. You definitely help cook the meal. We shredded coconut! We then relaxed on their terrace, before Duran drove us back to the port, right on time. If you want to learn about this gem of a city through the eyes of a passionate local, give Duran Duran a call for this unique experience.
