  1. Thanks England Ray! Really excited to hear there are those options out there! I will probably see if I can convince any friends to come with me before I get everything in order! It would be hard to limit it to 20 people since I will likely know no one before boarding the ship!

My birthday is actually on the second full day on the boat (Sea Day) so maybe if i push the party back a few days it would be easier to figure out who to invite. Also I would be happy even if the only person I was hanging out with was the bartender. I usually make friends with most of the staff. While on Princess cruises they are often the only ones in my age range :)

  2. Thanks for everyone's thoughts! Unfortunately the role call is only me as of now! I think I would be mostly hoping for a little space that I can decorate and maybe get a cake (think something like a Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle but celebrating my birthday). If you knew me you would know that this could actually work. It would be sort of like when I meet people/make friends during the cruise I would just give them a flyer/invitation about when and where to meet on my birthday. We could have drinks/cake there and then go to maybe Spice or whatever.

Do you think this is something I should try to work out before I set sail? How do the people who arrange the meet and mingles do things?

^I feel like this picture captures my essence pretty much.

Also thanks for the birthday and congrats! I still have 4 months left of law school and two months of bar studying until I can celebrate though!

  3. Royal Caribbean has a few ships with studios. Not sure which ones are sailing Europe, but I've been doing a little research into a Baltics cruise and Serenade of the Seas has a few interiors designated as solo cabins.

I think Costa also has some ships with solo cabins, but again, I'm not sure which ones are sailing in Europe. I would assume they'd have a lot of options available in the Mediterranean/Adriatic, since they're an Italian company, but I don't know for sure.

Just so you are aware those solo cabins on RCCL sell out FAST. There are very few and I wan't able to find ANY on any sailings I suggested to the rep. If you are looking to do a specific sailing I would put down the deposit ASAP.

  4. So I will be on the Escape for my 28th birthday on the August 6th sailing. As of now I will be a solo traveler (it is actually my post bar/law school graduation present for myself). Although I will likely make plenty of friends the two days before my birthday I thought it would be fun to throw myself a birthday party and invite everyone on the ship.

I was thinking about making a silly flyer to hand out that I could print pre trip and then fill in the blanks with the important details (time and venue) once I was aboard and figured things out with the staff.

Is this an insane idea? I am a pretty fun and goofy person and I think it would be a great time. Do you think the cruise staff would let me get away with it?

    Thanks for your input :D:D:D:D:D

  5. having the "wrong" host for the Solotraveller makes the difference.

I have been on Epic 3 times in a Studio so far and it was great. 2 times the host was really good in getting us together (was the same host) but was a bit pussy to get a "well done Card"

The 3rd time with a new host getting together for dinner was not so successfull. However that host was doing other things like a wine tasting, Food tasting during the Get2gether with no extra Charge. Which was great too!

I would always go back to a Studio when travelling alone

What was the host name and which ship?

  6. Changed my mind already and booked on the Escape on Aug 6th instead. I realized I wanted to vacation more to relax rather than to site see and it made much more sense to do the Caribbean. Airfare and cruise combined I will save 50% and I get an extra day of cruising! Very excited. If anyone has any recommendations on what to do for a young solo cruiser in Philipsburg, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, Nassau, Bahamas let me know!

  7. Thank you everyone for your advice! Especially the person advising about taking the time off to decompress. I will probably move the cruise out a week if I am able to. Unfortunately I am still job searching so I won't know a start date for some time. I hadn't looked into Costa or MSC but maybe I will take a peek.

The 7 day Med (Rome round trip) comes out to only 1.7k after taxes and gratuities. This includes the ultimate bev package. To be honest I can definitely drink more than almost anyone so this will be great knowing I won't need to worry about the end of the cruise!

I would definitely love to hear how your cruise goes summardays2016. I hope you can put yourself out there. Asking where someone is from is always an easier starter on cruises! Good luck and have fun!

  8. Hey everyone! I am a 27 y/o female and I have been on three extended family cruises (two Princess one RCCL) that were great experiences. I am graduating law school soon and have been trying to plan a post bar exam trip to decompress after what will likely be an awful experience.

I really want to do a cruise so I don't have to worry about planning too much between now and the bar exam. Unfortunately like most of you know this can be difficult while being single/solo. I am looking to do Europe in August. So far the really only option I have found is to do NCL Epic in the Med doing a studio room. The itinerary looks great even though I will be repeating most of the ports. I am really excited about the idea of the studio room/lounge.

Most cruises I am very active and usually myself and my family are petty well known early on during the cruise. I am an extreme extrovert and love meeting people. I also love to party and have closed down the discos most nights. I have had amazing times even on long Europe Princess cruises that have older crowds. I usually have my sister by my side though so I am a bit nervous about being totally by myself.

Wondering if anyone else cruises solo in my age range, knew of any longer trips than the 7 day epic ones around that time, or had any general advice about doing this alone!

    Thanks!

  9. I'm a 26 year old guy and I have a wonderful girlfriend, but I travel solo from time to time. :) It's the perfect type of relaxation!

But I really do travel a lot! So it's not that I never take her with me^^

She has a fear of being on a ship (crazy right?) and I cannot seem to convince her to come along on a cruise :p

But also on land trips, I often travel alone, sometimes with friends, sometimes with my dad... It depends who's interested to come along :)

How did you like the trip? I am thinking of doing a solo Med trip this August on the Epic. I will be celebrating my 28th birthday on the trip. I am really extroverted and have never been shy. I know the demographic will be older (I have mostly cruised Princess with my family) but hopefully I will still enjoy myself!

  10. I am worried about this issue as well for my cousin who will be turning 18 a month prior to the trip. When my sister as 19 and we went on a 12 day Med cruise she was able to make a bunch of friends through this 18-20 meet up they had in the Patter for the first day. I just looked at all of the Patters for the itenirary I will be on next month (British isles on CB) and they did not have this event which I think is unfortunate. For my cousin it should be ok because we have a group of us in our 20's so she can hang with us a Skywalkers and we can help her find friends. I will try to revisit this thread after our cruise. I guess a suggestions would just be long and tiring excursions.

These types of cruises just unfortunately aren't geared towards people in the 18-30 range but I always have fun with my family. Good luck!

  11. This is sort of random but my Great Grandmother died on a cruise ship on or around March 11th 1994. I am not even sure if it was Princess but since this is what my Grandma cruises with. I think she had a heart attack but I'm not sure. I know my Nana told me that one of the gentlemen that they dined with bought all the pictures for my Grandpa and sent them to him.
