  1. We are going on the Riviera in a Penthouse Suite. My brother-in-law and his wife are going on the same cruise, regular cabin. He joked that "we will just take advantage of your perks" One of the perks we want to take advantage of is in-suite dining. Will our butler bring course by course to all of us, or just the ones in the suite? It's going to bum me out if we have to forgo this benefit because they can't join us.

  2. Taking a short cruise is not indicative of any cruiseline. They are all party boats, including Celebrity 5 nighters. We have taken enough short and long cruises to realize if we just want a getaway, the ship is going to be rowdier than our normal 2 weekers.

Personally, We are elite on Celebrity and Platinum on Carnival...and enjoy both. Anyone who puts the food down on Carnival has either never sailed on a Carnival ship, or has sailed quite a while ago. The food is every bit at good as Celebrity...

Carnival has more fun activities. We are in our 60s, but not dead yet. We *like* silly poolside games.

Celebrity has more refined atmosphere and has more benefits for their upper tier loyalty passengers, but I just can't get on the "yuck Carnival" bandwagon

  3. I have read a lot of "good" things about being on the hump, but are there any disadvantages? Was thinking of changing my cabin.

I haven't noticed any disadvantages. The balcony is bigger and they are well-located for the elevators.

We leave in a week on the Eclipse and have booked a 1A again.

  4. The main difference between veranda and the aqua cabins is the designated restaurant. Concierge is not really much of anything.

The shows, entertainment and activities are all the same for everyone

We have been in suites (before they started Luminae, so can't comment on that) and one year, Aqua.

To be honest, we were not that thrilled with Blu.

What we do now, and it entirely changes the cruise experience for us, is we take ultimate dining. The specialty restaurants are so much better than Blu, and we found that after a few days the chefs make special off-menu food for us, so we don't get bored.

The real kicker is, the difference in price between a veranda with ultimate dining and Aqua is.....The veranda works out less expensive.

Since the only difference between up-scale lines and Celebrity is the cuisine, we find this is like cruising a really spectacular cruise line for mainstream prices.

Whatever you do, you will enjoy your cruise!

  5. Leaving on 14-night Eclipse next week and the only specialty dining options available under Manage Your Reservations dining options are 3- and 5-night packages. Hoping the new packages will be offered onboard.

That's odd...we have a 14 nighter on the Eclipse for February, and we were able to book an 11 night package. The 12, 13, and 14 night package were also offered, but we figured 3 nights in the MDR would be fine.

  6. I don't know what the rude person's problem was, but I understand your question.

I, too had a broken foot before a cruise and we actually bought a foldable, portable wheelchair to take with us.

You might want to check with ship's services to see if you can get one onboard.

We had to cancel one of our excursions, because it wasnt wheelchair friendly, but other than that, my husband pushed me around and we managed quite nicely. Harder on him than it was on me!

    Good luck and have fun!

  7. And Tuscan has turned into our least favorite (was a favorite) after our last two meals there. :(

Id there a time that this package shows up on our reservation? How about excursions to book? Our cruise is not until next May.

After I made the reservation, it showed up on our order history right away.

We also got an e-mail confirming it.

If you don't like Tuscan, the rep said you can change to whatever you like by showing up at one of the dining venues or booking tables.

  8. I finally, after 3 calls to Celebrity, got ahold of a rep who could help me. I wanted to book an 11 night package on our upcoming 2 weeker. It showed in my planner, but wouldn't let me book it

The last rep I talked to found she couldn't book both my husband and I on the same reservation. She was smart enough to figure out that hubby and I like to eat together, so she tried booking us individually, and that time it worked.

We usually book the ultimate dining on the ship, but 11 nights is enough and this works out to $3.00 per person less a night. We don't get the 2 lunches or use of Sushi on 5 this way, but not that big a deal.

I'm just glad we finally got it straightened out.

  9. I think this is a too broad-based question. A lot of the answers skew differently, depending on length of cruise, destination and time of year.

For example, a 2 week Orient cruise is going to get an older demographic than a one week Christmas cruise to the Caribbean.

I don't think this poll will tell you anything of substance

  10. What's the big deal? So somebody else posted this earlier. I missed the earlier post, as perhaps others did, as well.

And I think the idea that HAL has eliminated smoking from its balconies is VERY relevant to this board, because some of us choose Celebrity to avoid smoking on balconies, even though they would just as soon be on a HAL ship.

Why do people have to be so whiny?

  11. Jeez! I decided to check our Caribbean Eclipse in February. When we booked last year it was HALF what it is now for a 1A cabin, with the same 2 perks we got back then.

I hadn't checked it for quite a while, but this post made me look at it.

Honestly, I would have never booked it at the rate it is now.

  12. Hi!

Yes, it is available on transatlantics. We had it on our TA a few months ago.

It was $29.00 per person per night, and applies to all the restaurants, including bistro on 5, and the specialty luncheons.

The only sell a few of them per journey, so sign up as soon as you check in. There will be someone there selling dining packages before you even get on the ship.

    Bon Appetite!

  13. Pray tell, where on Millennium is Murano? Is there a secret password to a hidden door where it can found?

Please let me know as I enjoyed it tremendously on the Solstice Class vessels!

    bon voyage

It wasn't Murano...it was Olympic...I'm confusing our other trip same year, on Equinox....however, the experience happened to be the same.

  14. Don't know if this helps you, but we had ultimate dining on Millennium, and arranged 1st night Murano, 2nd night Tuscan, alternating between the two restaurants for the rest of the week... After the service comparison, we switched to Murano for the rest of the cruise.

Example...My husband's steak was tough, and the waiter blamed the lighting, saying we couldn't tell it was rare enough. Huh? the lighting didn't affect his chewing ability!

The only thing we loved at Tuscan was the ravioli.

    Murano was impeccable.

  15. We were on Millie last year in Alaska. I can't vouch for the MDR food, because we had ultimate dining....which was superb, as was the service in the Olympic, where we ate most of our meals.

However, our cabin staff was attentive and everything was kept top-knotch. We didn't notice anything threadbare or old looking.

The staff, in general, was very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful.

Example...at sailaway, the rear deck was obviously crowded, and there was nowhere to sit. A bartender inside, came out with chairs and offered them to those of us who were looking for a seat. This bit of attention to passenger comfort was exhibited throughout.

I wouldn't hesitate to sail her again.

  16. We had the ultimate dining package on the Equinox and had planned to divide up our dining between Murano, Tuscan and Silk Harvest for the 2 weeks we were on the ship.

The first night we went to Murano, and it was superb, both in cuisine and service.

Second night at Tuscan, my husband ordered a rib steak medium rare(this is a steak house, no?) and after a long wait, having to request bread 3 times, and looking around for someone to bring us iced tea for the entire time, our dinners finally arrived. In fairness, the appetizer ravioli was very good. now we come to the entree. My shrimp was cooked to the rubber band stage, they were so over done, and my husband's steak was well done. My husband requested a replacement steak done correctly and the waiter actually told him that it was the lighting in the restaurant that made the meat look browner than it was. Did the lighting also make it tougher?

Neither my husband nor I enjoy sending food back, but between my shrimp and his steak, we just couldn't eat it.

You know what the worst part was? The chef came out and said he knew my shrimp were overdone and apologized. What? You KNEW the shrimp were wrong and sent them out anyway? So we're just stupid Americans who won't know the difference?

After that we ate once at Silk Harvest, and then the rest of our dinners at Murano. The waiter (we had the same one every night) said he knew it could get boring ordering for 12 days off the same menu, so he said the chef would make some special off-menu dishes for us for the remaining days. The Waiter, the food, the ambience, and the maitre d were 5 star all the way. I can't praise Murano high enough, and haven't a good thing to say about Tuscan except the Ravioli are good.

Oh yeah, I mentioned the ravioli to our waiter at Murano. the next night he brought both my husband and I the Tuscan ravioli. So now we missed NOTHING from the Tuscan Grill
