  1. We also stay at Embassy Suites, both pre and post cruise. Love the extra room and the free full breakfast (especially before the cruise on the breakfast.)

They also have a shuttle to the airport (about $10pp) when you leave.

On our next cruise, Dec. 20th, we are going 2 days early and enjoy their pool. Also a nice bar area for a drink in the evening.:) Food is available for lunch or dinner, we just prefer to go to one of the nearby restaurants.

  2. Wow, some really good advice here.

Maybe I missed it, but we usually cruise during colder months and make sure we have our driveway plowed and walkways shoveled.

I think one of the most important items was having a friend or neighbor stop by and check out the house. We do that and he has permission to get help from plumbers, etc. if necessary.:):)

Even during the coldest time of year, we have never had a problem with our vehicles starting. They are garaged, but that is relative when you live in Maine. :D:D:D

  3. I am sure hoping Princess reads this thread. So I will add my thumbs down to the Curtis Stone dishes.

Princess, give us back the Always Available Menu; please and thank you.:)

I so hope there is a chance I get the survey.

I do enjoy the Norman Love desserts.

  4. Are you asking about the Captains Circle internet benefit, or an internet plan you purchase?

For either it depends on how you booked: as two separate cruises with two booking numbers, or as one 14 day cruise.

If booked as two separate cruises, whether or not any minutes left over from a plan activated the first week will carry over to the second seems to be handled differently on each ship. You will want to ask the internet manager during their hours in the Internet Cafe what exactly will happen.

For the Captains Circle (platinum or elite member) benefit: if booked as one 14-day cruise you will get one 250 minute package for the entire cruise; if as two 7-day cruises you will get 150 minutes the first week and an additional 150 the second. Again, whether the first week carries over depends on the policy of the individual ship and/or the largess of the internet manager.

Internet plans you purchase likely handled similarly. My advice would be to examine your cruise card upon boarding; if it is valid for two weeks even if you booked as two separate cruises, perhaps any pack of minutes purchased will be as well. Again, following up on board is essential.

Thanks, Fishywood for the above info. We booked as a 14 day but our Cruising History on Princess is showing 2 credit. At the end of the first leg, we will have to go downstairs to immigration with our passports, I believe. After this first leg, I am "assuming we will each become elite because we will have completed our 15th cruise doing the first leg. Please correct me if I am wrong.:)

My next question is, do elite passengers get more minutes than Platinum or is it the same amount?

  5. Really surprised to not see much on this board about this. According to a travel advice website it is the #1 thing to do in Antigua. Looks like a lot of fun for the family. Any recent reviews or experiences to share??

    Was that Trip Advisor?

  6. We are doing the All Inclusive Beverage Package in November for 14 nights. Our Reservations and Purchase show $788.90 Complimentary Gift

which comes out to $56.35 per day. These prices are per person.

Here is what shows for the Cancellation policy beneath:

Cancellation Policy: You may cancel 72 hours before your cruise for full refund. Complimentary gifts are non-transferable and do not follow guests who change promotions prior to cruising. The gift is not redeemable for cash and expires at the end of the voyage.

  7. As someone who has only sailed Holland America in recent years (all my other cruises were in the very distant past), I'm sure that I'll be asking a whole "boatload" of questions -- Both about Princess in general and the Royal specifically. I wanted to apologize in advance if there are times when I seem to be a board hog and also to thank all you nice people in advance for your future indulgence and patience!

Ask away. I am sure the troops are ready.:D

  8. I'm trying to decide which day to do the Crown Grille which is included with booking- Yes I know it is assigned, but was told no problem switching day or time if doing this first thing. I switched restaurant with no problem at all on the Coral.....

Any way, it would be really helpful if someone could post which day the formal night was on this itinerary last year on the Royal.

I can't answer your question, but I would say as soon as you get on the ship call the DINE line from your cabin and book for the formal night. The Patter will be in your room and it will specify the formal nights. Good luck:)

  9. As a former Bostonian and now a Portland, Mainer, just get off the ship and have a great feed of lobster. :D:D You won't be sorry.

And yes, Nova Scotia has really delicious lobster too.

What are the ports you will be stopping and hopefully eating lobster at each one.

I do know that our Senator, Susan Collins, was able to get some of the cruise lines to bring lobster onboard when the stop in Portland. Forget which ones though.

  10. Has anyone done their own thing on a day stop in Rome. On the Royal Princess looking at Civitavecchia Port to Rome for approx 8 hrs walking the sites as we have been there before then making our way back to the port. Was thinking of the train but not sure whether its easy or not. Thanks

Have you joined your roll call here on Cruise Critic? Perhaps there is an excursion you could join. We did a private excursion. It was wonderful and so informative. These folks know their business.:)

  11. We also did this excursion thru Chilkoot. Train up, van (not a big bus) back. The trip and service was fantastic. But you have to do what it comfortable for you.:) The lunch was very good and the Princess excursion people were there also.

Chilkoot provided the van to the train station and we got aboard. They were waiting for us right at the gate, very close to where the Princess train is. Hint, sit on the left hand side if you train up.:D

I would check their cancellation policy due to CU64's post.

  12. Cabin walls are metal, so bring magnetic hooks to hang stuff on wall and not clutter desk.

Bring 5 or 6 large black binder clips to weigh down shower curtain so that it doesn't attack your body.

LOL. That should always remain a secret to first time cruisers.:D
