  1. Live from 2/26 sailing. Don't get me wrong the first 1 day and half have been wonderful. We have a great steward (GEMMA) on Dolphin who is attentive, Dexter who is in Palm Dining Room who is Asst Waiter...but everything else is "NO". I asked (mine you I "elite") for a couple of items off menu and was told the chef would not prepare. Really...I have friends that are Executive Chef's that not only have worked on cruise ships but also hold several professional designations that love the opportunity to get outside the normal "realm". How difficult is it to slice up a couple pieces of salami and hard parm and make some risotto...Really. I was told by the head waiter the chef would not make it. The menu itself tonite was not to my tastes, and furthermore no pasta was on the menu, thus I sat and drank wine for dinner. Had a bit of desert and a cup of coffee. Really Princess... is this the way you want to treat people who have "black" cards, not only us but people who you wish to entice to become future "black" card holders.

Mind you, this is not the entire staff, most have been really enjoyable but the few "rotten eggs" have made the first day and half not really wanting me to continue my loyalty to this cruiseline. I have talked to a few "in transit" passengers and have heard the same comments.

    Princess, are you listening??

    Seriously?

  2. Yes you can bring the water on. I know people say they put a tag on it and leave it with the porters but we never have. We have just carried it on. Usually we put the whole case of water in our heavy duty canvas beach tote.

  3. There is a freee hop on hop off trolley that drives around San Juan. I would also reccommend the 2 forts, El Morro and San Cristobal. Both are on the trolley route and admission is cheap. $5.00 if I remember correctly, and your admission is for both forts.

  4. We were on the Grand just over 2 years ago and we encountered leaking pipes, wet carpets, weird smells etc too. The starboard side hallway on Baja deck had several buckets all along, all catching leaks. There was an awful smell along this hall too - it wasn't mildewy, more of a bad sewer smell. It was pretty gross and we had to hold our breath whenever we were in that area. There was often fans set up in the hall, blowing on the wet carpets. I would also say the Grand is our least favourite Princess ship.

  5. I think your agent means the luggage tags you attach to your luggage on the last night of the cruise that shows your disembarkation time. A few days into the cruise you will receive a form regarding the disembarkation. Fill it in and return to the front desk. You can choose what time you want off the ship. Have all your party pick the same thing. When you get your tags, check and see if you all have the same time. If not, go to pursers desk and have them changed. Easy.

You will put these tags on your luggage prior to putting it out into the hall on the last night. The ship gathers the luggage and next time you see it will be on shore as you disembark.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  6. It needs it. We were on the NA Jan 18-25th, carpets are disgusting, furniture worn and ready to be pushed to the curb. We had a/c issues and always with the plumbing issues. The retractable roof was under repair on the last day of our cruise. Oh and the blown engine....

I don't agree that she was disgusting, but I do agree she needs an overhaul. We found her carpets stained and worn and she needed some overall sprucing up.

  7. No worries. Most of the pictures I post can be found in my old 'Live' thread...

But, knowing the location of them all within the thread helps me too. ;) But if I don't get around to posting them, please feel free to do so. It's nice to help people with visuals when they have questions.

Also, sometimes when I use the Search function, after typing in the Keyword I also use my screen name (and a 6-month to 1 year search field) to narrow down the results.

    :D

Great pics. Looking at them, it seems to me that the quad cabin is a bit wider than a regular interior. There is a space, maybe 8 inches on either side of the bed so that the nightstand is not touching both the bed and the wall. I would think that space makes up for the fact that there are the fold down bunks. Does that make sense to anyone else?

  8. We know Vancouver well and are familiar with the various ways of getting to the airport, but I have a few questions re: disembarkation. Our booked flight is at 1:15 p.m. We are in a Neptune accommodation and I understand we can get priority exit from the ship. We are travelling light so as an alternative we can easily take advantage of the "self help" disembarkation. If we take the latter can we leave at any time after it is announced or would we be expected to depart within a certain time-frame? Is there much time difference between the "self-help" call and the priority call? Of course we don't need to be first off the ship, but would like to be on our way to the airport by 10:00 or so. Is this reasonable?

Our last disembarkation in Vancouver was 43 years ago and we know Canada Place terminal is much busier than the previous Canadian Pacific Railway pier on the same site:). Thanks in advance for any comments from those who have arrived in Vancouver.

We sailed out of Vancouver on the Zaandam in a Neptune suite this past summer. As a Neptune guest you are allowed to disembark anytime after the ship is cleared up until the last time slot, which was about 9:50 am. When you get off the ship into the luggage hall, the Neptune luggage is in an area by itself closest to the gangway. You pick it up, go through immigration and off you go. There were tons of taxis available. I think it was about $35 for the taxi to the airport, and took about 20 minutes.

We found the whole experience to be very well organized. I think our flight was around 1:30 and we had lots of time with no rushing. You will be fine. Enjoy the cruise.

  9. We did a B2B on Regal Princess and Nieuw Amsterdam. We got off the Regal, caught a cab and asked him to take us to the Nieuw Amsterdam. It was around $8.00 and we tipped him too.

FYI, we asked for the latest disembarkation from the Regal, which was about 9:50. By the time we got off, got our luggage, went through immigration, went out and got a cab, the time was just perfect to check in at the New Amsterdam.

  10. We had a quad balcony cabin on the Westerdam, 4006 I think it was. The bed that dropped down from the ceiling was over the queen bed. The 4th berth was the pull out sofa. Every night the steward would open the sofa bed up and let down the upper bunk. Each morning he reversed it. Worked out fine. We never had any problems. It felt cozy getting into our queen bed under the drop down bed and we never bumped our heads, even in the night getting up to go to the washroom.
