What side of the ship is best for wanting to see the most of the river views (towns etc) when embarking.

Starboard is best after you depart the city.  Not much to see on the port side after you pass Chalmette.  The majority of the towns are on the starboard(westbank).

Is it far from airport to French Quarter area? We are traveling there with family in February and that’s the area they stay in, but flying in before them, two days prior. I need to know about whether a shuttle or taxi is best to get from airport to hotel.

From the airport to the Quarter is a 17 mile drive.  About a $36 flat fee cab ride for 2.  There are also shuttles available.  You may want to check with your hotel for who they use to shuttle.

I, too, will be sailing out of NOLA for the first time in February, and appreciate any input. We will fly in two days prior, so plan to see the sights. How far is the port from the French Quarter area? Is it reasonable enough to use a taxi, or is a shuttle recommended. We are traveling with family, and they often use Uber. That is something we have never done, and are leary about doing so.

From the edge of the Quarter to the cruise terminal is about 6 blocks.  Middle of the Quarter another 8 or so blocks.  If you're staying in the Quarter a taxi or Uber/Lyft would be your best option.

We're doing New Zealand r/t from Sydney in December of this year. Love good food, so hope we have the same experience as you!  Thanks!

We've booked after you on 1/3/2020 from Sydney to Auckland.  Looking forward to our trip down under.

    Awesome, thank you!

Our stay near the airport is usually at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza.  Shuttle to and from the airport.  Convenience store across the street and restaurant on site and adjacent.

The Astor Crowne Plaza on Canal is a trek.  I would not attempt it with luggage and a 3 year old.  Alone or couple with no luggage, no problem.

Yes, check the dailies and watch what is scheduled at the Pour House.  Some nights the singers from the Rock Of Ages cast will join in.  Really fun venue with talented singers & band.

We spent every night in there on our repositioning cruise in Oct/Nov.  Shanti and the Guilty Pleasures were great.  Get there early to find a seat.

You can fly in the day before for an additional $50 pp.  I just booked reduced airfare yesterday $99 pp from Nashville.  If you book a hotel through NCL you don’t pay the $50 pp stipend.

This is a great deal for us, but it depends on where you are flying from.  And yes, you fly out the day you come back.  By then, we will be ready to go home.

That is correct.  You can fly in up to 2 days before.  We booked an Aus/NZ cruise Monday flying in 2 days before.

I’ve often thought of doing a TA but was concerned about the rocking over the ocean. Does it seem worse going west to east or visa versa?

    thanks!

The transatlantic we did a few years back was one of the smoothest sailings I've ever been on.  That was in October.

    All,

I have a group of 6 adults I'm traveling with. We're arriving on 27APR, leaving on the Dream on 28APR. We're staying at an airport hotel that first night, and are trying to figure out the easiest (and/or most cost effective?) way to get to the port on the 28th. Is anyone familiar with anyone who could do a private pickup and accommodate 6 people and luggage in one go? Or would it just be best to take 3 different taxi/uber/lyfts?

    Thank you!

Many of the cabs that pick up at the airport use minivans.  If you think that is large enough for 6 passengers plus luggage go with them.  An UBERXL may also work.

Its substantially more expensive but its also the easiest since you are in about an 8 story parking garage. Don't need to worry about the elements and the distance between your car and the entrance is much shorter than every port I've been too plus no congested curb-side scene. Elevators on every floor. Just don't forget what floor you are like I did last cruise

It's actually no longer substantially more expensive.  The difference now is only about $2 per day.  Fulton has raised their rates.
