  1. Thanks to all - and Brian. Your arrangements sounded quite complex. Well we have booked the segment for 2020 and now have to wait for approx 10 mths for the flights to open up, which is what we thought. We have booked the entire package ie. Cruise + flights from Heathrow through our regular TA and Cunard have told them that we will be able to deviate our flight dates to suit our requirements when they open up - we can even choose to book our flights ourselves and have them taken off the package if we prefer. So we will have plenty of choice.....hopefully we will be able to fly direct.

  2. This website was posted on our Grand Asia roll call. I would agree with the writer that the Ginza/Tokyo Station is the most convenient and most central area of Tokyo to stay. All train and subway lines are easily accessible. We just booked at the Millenium Mitsui Garden Hotel, just off the Ginza. Very convenient. I think it is a 4*.

Thank you for this - it's very interesting and useful. Looking at all suggestions carefully.

  3. We have stayed at the Hyatt and Marina Bay Sands. Both excellent with good upgrades. Hyatt is right across from Royal Plaza. Tons of shopping in that area, very convenient. Marina Bay Sands was on my bucket list just to try out the Infinity Pool, memorable. Easy access to Gardens by the Bay. Check your credit cards and see if you have points to redeem for room. I was surprised that we had enough points for MBS.

Good tip - we will look into this. MBS would be a great option.

We are so grateful to everyone who has replied......we have a great selection of hotel recommendations.many thanks.

  4. I think Fairmont gives you the most flex. The standard of the hotel is good and the location is fantastic.

The hotel is connected to Raffles City shopping center.

Many thanks - this is good to know. We will check this out.

  5. Thanks to all who have replied- Singapore will be totally new to us and we are glad to read all the recommendations for hotels in which to stay before joining a cruise.

As zowie57 says above - we are doing lots of research and reading about different areas in which to stay. We have a decent budget so I'm sure we will find something we like - using recommendations from fellow cruisers is one way to start.

Many thanks to all - any other recommendations or tips will be gratefully received.

  6. Thank you for posting these - Thoroughly enjoyed looking at the photos Keith - you obviously enjoyed your visit.

We are off to Liverpool in October to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibition and are looking forward to seeing the city again.

Next time make your trip a bit longer - there is a very convenient Marriott hotel, right in the centre and handy for all the sights.

  7. Zukecruiser - your hotel may not be near theatre land but is very handy for buses and not too far from Aldgate Tube Station (few minutes walk.) you can walk into Wapping (or get the 100bus) to take you to some of the oldest pubs in London. Oppisite the hotel there is an excellent Indian Restaurant- Cafe Spice Namaste and next door to that an authentic Victorian pub called The Princess of Prussia. The next street along (Leman St) there is the Brown Bear pub of Ripper Street fame.

You are also in easy walking distance of many of the sights...

By the way, it's a lovely hotel too.....

  8. Thank you Lynnewob for your reply & explanation. We will be travelling a few days prior to embarkation so have a few options.

Not long to wait for booking to open so will see what prices are like with and without flights. As it's not until March 2020, we have plenty of time.

  9. Here are some of our favourite Indian Restaurants :-

Spice Namaste - Prescot Street E1. (Excellent renowned chef Cyrus Todiwala. Near the Tower.

Quilon - Buckingham Gate SW1. Westminster, affiliated to the Taj Hotel.

Bombay Brasserie, Courtfield Rd, SW7 also affiliated to the Taj Hotel.

The Empress Of India - Leman Street E1 (not far from the Tower & very handy for the Jack the Ripper tours! ) Very economical & food delicious.

London is full of Indian restaurants - abundant collection in Brick Lane E1 which is an area 'full of character' and much more 'down to earth' than the normal areas the tourists tend to stick to.
