  1. I guess you did not see the pictures of the Tunisians forming a human shield to try and protect the European holiday makers, or read about the Tunisian builder who helped the police by throwing tiles onto the head of the terrorist ?

I know we are meant to be polite on these forums, but to denigrate a whole country with such a bigoted and incorrect view only highlights your lack of understanding and knowledge.

I wish cruise critic had a like button! This is exactly what I was thinking

  2. I worked at a small liberal arts college in the U.S. In our post 9-11 era, and even more recently with more anti-American sentiment throughout the world, students getting ready for their semester abroad were encouraged NOT to wear sneakers outside of the gym - a surefire way to identify them as American since most European students do not wear gym sneakers all day. The goal was to make the American students as inconspicuous as possible.

Trust me many British will wear sneakers / trainers. Perhaps European e.g Spanish and Italian wouldn't buy we defiantly do

  3. What's with this "sneakers" issue? I just returned from 22 days land & cruise - British Isles, and saw lots of people wearing sneakers [AKA trainers]. In fact, having read on CC that it's a big faux pas to wear sneakers, I kept watching what people wore while in London. My sneakers were the norm. A friend from Bournemouth, with whom we traveled, was wearing sneakers when we met in Salisbury.

Wear whatever you want, comfort is more important that style.

Well said! When sightseeing you want to be comfy. I wear trainers/ pumps or plimsolls 80% of the time here

  4. If you don't buy the advance ticket then yes you pay full fare although sometimes there are different levels of full fares depending on when you travel etc. Annoyingly in the UK trains don't sell out so they sometimes sell more tickets then the number of seats but this probably won't be the case on this route

  5. Thanks for the info! I may be taking a cruise that departs from Harwich. On another Thread, a fellow passenger said she missed her Italian train for which she had advance tickets and was reimbursed for her replacement tickets by her travel insurance. I wish I had known this years ago when I lost that other ticket, but according to her---at least her plan---wouldn’t reimburse the first ticket, but reimbursed the replacement. That gives me more confidence now buying in advance, especially with a good deal.

    Happy Travels!

This would only work if the insurance company believe you allowed enough time between your flight and the train departing.

  6. Hi, I once missed a train in the UK due to a late arriving ship and could not use my ticket for a later train. Curious about this train to Harwich. If I purchase in advance and my plane is late, am I able to catch a later train?

    Thanks!

It all depends what type of ticket you book. Some are only available for specific trains which you can't transfer. Others can be used on all departures or those departing between certain hours. Cheaper tickets usually have more restrictions. The web site will tell you the restrictions when booking.

  7. Wear what you want and be comfortable and practical for the weather. Shock horror I sometimes wear a hooded top out and about and guess what...I still function just fine. If you want to dine at expensive restaurants etc then of course it isn't suitable but just to enjoy your holiday and enjoy the sights I say go for it! Everyone has their own view and style and if we didn't life would be a boring place.

I would also say that the UK is a little different to the rest of Europe e.g, Italy and Spain but that is a cultural and weather thing

Enjoy your time in the UK.
