We just returned from a 5 night Carnival cruise out of Galveston - We have done 41 Princess cruises . Never again will we get on a Carnival ship in Galveston......we did this only because we had a comp casino offer and we do love the slots....there was so much marijuana smoke odor everywhere - I think we were probably high with them....the noise level is terrible, the heavy drinking , just not our cup of tea. I am so happy that Princess is returning to Galveston this year- we are already booked on 3 cruises with them. I will say the food on the Carnival ship was very good and they do have a smoke free casino annex which was a good place to be.

We have had good luck getting cheaper business class tickets on EZ Air. The prices change almost daily so that should be a consideration in deciding. I would check for a while before buying a ticket.

The Ruby is fine. We are booked for 3 upcoming cruises on her from Galveston. We were on her in July and aside from the rust on the hull of the ship , it was wonderful. Skywalker's Lounge is great. I saw did not see anything dirty - this is an older ship but everything we experienced was just fine. Our cabin had no issues. We actually like the older ships better than the newest ones. Give Galveston a try - the fares are great!
