  1. Carnival Sunshine is docked at the commercial docks here in Charleston. I would assume that even if they don’t have regular passenger cruises happening they would still need to run the engines, perform routine maintenance and practice safety drills, both at dock and while underway.

Not sure how long as this started last night, but if you are flying down to FL from the Tri-state area, you go into a mandatory self-quarantine.

"Starting today, passengers arriving into FL from the New York Tri-State area (Connecticut, New Jersey and New York) must self-quarantine for 14 days due to COVID-19, according to @GovRonDeSantis Executive Order.

and how on earth do they enforce that?

I have a Carnival cruise scheduled for 19 April. I got an email 13 March stating I now have up until 3 days before the cruise to cancel for FCC. I got the email from my TA, should be the same for all.

That might be from your specific TA because they keep sending me daily “let’s get ready for your cruise” emails. What I’m hoping for is if they cancel before that deadline they add OBC to the FCC...like so many others have gotten.

  4. I am in Charleston, SC and I can see Carnival Sunshine off in the distance, docked I believe at the commercial area and not downtown like they usually do. There are 1000 crew on board and I am hoping after 14 days they let those souls off to shop and such. I work in a hospital that gets Covid cases and while lucky to keep working can’t help but feel the disparity of some who get to shelter at home at full pay while others are basically laid off with nothing.

DH and I are wondering about the cruise we booked out of here for April 18. Not cancelling yet because I’m hoping Carnival does it but my employer is saying if you cruise or fly you might be required to stay home 2 weeks when you get back. Car drivers on vacation don’t have that restriction, which makes no sense to me since you have no idea where the car driver went and with whom.

They have closed the local beaches because I guess the kids were congregating although nothing at all like in Florida. DH is a mailman and the mail is still running. Basically we work, come home, watch Hallmark movies and he reads while I troll the internet. Stores are hit and miss and the Costco here was crazy last time I went in. People with carts of water, clorox and paper products and all I wanted was bacon bits, lol, so I left.  Now they have heeded the statewide directive to limit number of shoppers so last time I drove by I saw a line snaked around the building with people waiting for one shopper to exit so the next could enter. I don’t need bacon bits that badly!

We’re  just taking it easy and trying to stay connected with neighbors, friends and family by that other not to be named site. We are not going to be able to retire now so looking at the bright side keeping working will prevent me from being a layabout I suppose!

  5. We’re booked in an oceanview April 18. We are waiting to cancel to see if they decide to cancel it themselves as that would be most advantageous to us. Meanwhile I have put in a request to get a balcony upgrade at no additional cost.....just in case we get stuck on board. Just trying to stay fluid knowing that we may have to cancel last minute anyway as I work in a hospital laboratory. I had bought their cancel for any reason insurance. I’ve told my husband that it’s out of our hands so  just trying to remain calm...

Have 8fc4dc125a19236f6343a9b3a07d5a91.jpgyou thought about just using a coat hanger on the towel rod instead of hanging it over the door?

I've used the coat hanger method not only on a towel rod but hanging from a single hook both inside and outside the bathroom. You can also hang a storage  organizer suspended from heavy duty magnet hooks, as the walls are metal. Although honestly storage usually is so good in these cabins we don’t need it.

  7. Funny our last steward behaved exactly like this plus did not make the towel animals. The last night I did write a detailed note to the HD to alert him of the problems. I'm noticing many more complaints about stewards and while I don't like it quite frankly I think it's stemming from the change in corporate culture. They are being pressed to do more in less time and depending on the personality some may be passive aggressively fighting back, so to speak. Just my opinion

  8. I like the ease of directly adding a picture and not that rigamarole of going through another site but navigation is harder for me. I also just had to log in twice so hopefully that stops. Pages aren't loading as fast for me. Hopefully it gets smoother

  9. Anoop, the Concierge, called and spoke to someone in Moderno after i heard this from another couple who had dined there the night before. So its def true on Getaway, and its probably coming fleet wide soon. We ended up canceling, and i did get lamb chops in LaCucina (we opted to try that instead, hadnt eaten there in a few cruises as its our least fave of the specialities).

Haven restaurant had awesome lamb, i ate that 3 nights. lol

Lamb chops were in Moderno on the Sun in September and were seriously good. A shame if they disappear but there was also very tasty leg of lamb....

  10. Hopefully they will review the form in a timely manner to give you some peace of mind. Meanwhile if you have insurance file a claim. Call your credit card company. They may have some coverage or a solution, but please take a moment to catch your breath.

Right now you need to concentrate on letting go of life’s frustrations and deal with your diagnosis. Best wishes.

  11. Since the threads are about to be “Read Only” I thought I better post an update concerning this cruise, or more specifically, the travel delay after. We did end up catching an Uber to the airport and going straight to the American Airlines counter. Long story short, Charleston was closed, Charlotte was open (in the midst of the storm) so no way to get home.

We took a room at the Miami International Airport Hotel located right there in the airport terminal. If you have an early morning departure I highly recommend this place! Wow, so easy the next morning to go check our bag for our flight, go eat the free included breakfast, then go back to the room to freshen up, get our carry ons and go through security.

We ended up spending debarkation day lounging around, grabbing a shuttle to the Mall for dinner and music, and just making lemonade out of lemons.

Upon our final return I started an online claim with Allianz for the trip delay. There have been some hiccups. Due to the sheer volume of delays from all over they were not responding within their own allotted time so I ended up calling them, which moved my claim up a bit. I still haven’t physically received a check and for some reason their emails are not getting through to me but I was just assured over the phone they cut me a check for the hotel and the Uber. For some reason they did not receive the uploads for our meal. I plan on resubmitting the missing items. So far I have always found their agents pleasant and responsive but having to file electronically has been buggy at best. When it is all said and done I will post a mini review of them specifically in the Cruise/Travel Insurance Board.

  12. ? "revenge"? We are talking cold hard cash, just one of many issues was changing the carpet in my room, I paid for a vacation, not for them to remodel my room, as previously stated a one time deal to get my money back since complaints were not heeded. I will take any cruise line that offers cheap, not married to any line. Nothing to do with revenge, if you want to give me $400 I will call the whole thing off.

When you are talking about sticking it to NCL for PAST problems by stiffing the crew on another cruise that you admit you’d only take to hit Platinum yes, that is taking revenge: noun

  13. Ok so quick summary of help (lot of pages on this thread) on our next cruise we will reach platinum status. I am not a big fan of ncl, but if the cruise is cheap we hit it, never have I received any money/obc for any complaints over the years. Not once, So we have a plan to make up for all the things that went wrong (example: safe did not work binoculars locked in so we could not see the whales, replaced carpeting in our room said they would do it at 2pm, we went to get changed at 1pm and room already ripped apart, leak/smell in bathroom, things like that etc...)

So our plan is not to pay any service charges on this cruise, a one time thing only to make up for all other mistakes of ncl. Please good people what do we need to do. thank you

Your plan should be to cruise another line. That is the only plan for “revenge” that would make sense in your situation.

  14. Wow, are we siamese twins :o I had done the same thing my first cruise with NCL paying for SDP, but that was because I was an IC. Then, after booking OC and above, I received the 2 perk offer which led me to start booking Angled Spa Balcony. In my opinion, NCL has the best spas of the big 3 (and it is not even close).

My point is the slightly higher price that NCL proposes has been made null-and-void in my experience due to the included perks that I now consistently use. In actuality, the higher price (if there is one in my class) is a good thing given that is detracts the annoying children of RCCL and the obnoxious drunks/ annoying children of CCL. Sure, you are still going to encounter those groups on NCL, but in my experience, it has been of a lesser degree.

Millennials like the entertainment and late night that is not offered so prominently on MSC, Celebrity, and Regents, and I am not ready to give up the ghost. Who hasn't seen a show or gone to the nightclub and ended up at O'Sheehans..that's part of the magic. As stated before, for the millennial, NCL offers the best bang for the buck (for now...).

Lol, millenials like the entertainment and late night....omg do you really think everyone else has given up the ghost? I love the dances out on deck and O’Sheehans after, and I’m no millenial. Drink up, have fun, but don’t allow big corporations to sugarcoat the dubious tactics they employ

  15. I know there are a lot of different conversations happening on this thread at this point, but I see over and over again on this forum, “Who actually can drink enough to make the UBP a good deal?” Well. Millennials can. I shudder to think what my bar bill would be if not for the UBP. For our next cruise, the difference in cost between a Sail Away balcony and a guarantee was $130pp. We paid $124pp in gratuities for the UBP. I would definitely be facing a bar bill in excess of $254 if not for the promo. I’m under no illusion my drinks are “free,” nor are any of the friends I’ve cruised with. But we’ve found a cruise fare with amenities that make it worth it to us.

And really, that’s who I think NCL is chasing with the Free at Sea promotion — the next generation of cruisers. There’s a lot of talk about people being surprised by how much they’re paying, and I’d argue my peers who can afford to take even a budget cruise on NCL are pretty good with money. I guarantee they’re looking at total cost, not just the per person cabin rate, when they book. And honestly, now that my friends are a little older and more settled in our careers, we cruise NCL because we can afford to take a nicer cruise than four of us crammed in an inside cabin on the greyhound of the seas.

I wouldn’t make blanket generational assumptions. Regardless we are ALL saying that free isn’t free, but instead of just taking it, generally speaking the older you get the more likely you are to object to such ploys and demand truth in advertising.

  16. Hello- I was on a cruise with the both of you either 2013/2014 to Bermuda; I would say compared to then on my Breakaway ships where I lucked out with stewards- that I never saw my steward- perhaps once on my Escape trips this year. In fact my service on the Escape a few weeks ago was dreadful- requests for towels ignored; request to bring towels and make up room met with only 2 towels.

On day 5 they took my AAA card that I was using in the cardholder OUT of the room- I called to have it sent back. I would have waived my daily service charge but felt that unfair to those who helped me- got to the point where a director or someone was helping me out.

    Yes, I remember..

  17. Can you supply a source for that? I've never heard it before and from what I have read the rules changed in 2014 and the only thing that restricts the average Cuban from buying a new car is the cost.

From our tour guide Raul. I just googled it and you’re right, it has changed recently but it was a law previously. I guess in the average person’s mind it may as well still be in effect since most people cannot afford to buy anything.
