  1. Okay, I am different I know, but I absolutely love the Muesli for breakfast. It is so creamy and good, and I have never had it anywhere else nor have I successfully replicated it.

While DH would like steak and eggs every morning I eat the Muesli, lol.

  2. A couple of quick questions:

    • Is the Crepe Station for breakfast, lunch or both?
    • Do they have both sweet & savory crepes?

    Thanks -- Von

I have seen various Captain and Officers bringing a plate of savories to the crepe station to have a dinner crepe made...

  3. A friend of mine did a Med cruise on CCL's new ship. She said that they had an inside room, but almost right next to their cabin there was a door that went outside to a small deck and it had lounge chairs. I believe they call these "secret balconies".

I think if our obstructed ov cabin wasn't near a common area I'd really be freaking out! It could end up being a very convenient location. In one month from tomorrow, all our questions will be answered!

We had an obstructed OV on Gem right down from O’Sheehans and we loved it!. Bar and snacks right there, best thing ever! The cabin was large also, and the hallway quiet.

  4. Many Haven guests are well off, comparatively speaking, and repeat Haven customers. Some, like us, might just luck into a deal and end up in the Haven once.

Incomes vary greatly. Just because a cruiser might be in the bottom half of the income stream does not mean they can’t cruise in the Haven, as some of the posts regarding “budgeting” seem to suggest.

In our case I toted up what each person did, time-wise and effort involved, along with attitude. I then translated that into my own salary, and that is what they got. The old “tip this amount per person per day” is just so much, idk, bragging, to me.

The posters who say it is an individual choice have it spot on. (And just for comparison, I have been known to tip $10 on a $5 Waffle House order, if the server was that outstanding and $10 on a $100 bill when the server was horrible, with an attitude to match)

  5. You will see the horses and buggies lined up right outside the terminal exit. I don’t think they are very expensive. No reservation needed and the cruiseline does not offer them. When you see the horses you may decide not to. They are super skinny and not draft horses or mules, which are better suited for the job.

I have taken carriage rides here in Charleston and thoroughly enjoyed them. These animals are well fed, well taken care of, and either draft horses or mules.

Regardless, if it is something you want to do, it will be right there....

  6. Just wondering what everyone thinks are the best veggies on board. I have only been on one NCL cruise and can’t remember any vegetable dishes/sides sticking out at me except for Moderno’s salad bar. I’ve been eating a lot of vegetables as part of my weight loss plan (18lbs down!) and wondering what I have to look forward to/still working on planning dinners on my October cruise on the Breakaway.

Don’t be afraid to change up what is offered in the MDR. I have many times ordered a main course to be accompanied by veggies listed as being with other dishes. They are happy to accomodate simple requests like that. I love eggplant but DH does not so I don’t make it at home. If I see it anywhere on the menu I ask for some to go with whatever else I am ordering.

You can also order multiple starters or soups. They also usually have vegetarian offerings and Indian ones that have lots of veggies and yummy flavors.

  7. Uber to the port question: A year ago I cruised out of Charleston on the Ecstasy, first time. We stayed overnight in Mt. Pleasant at the Days Inn just at the end of the bridge. They let us leave our car there for free. We took an Uber to the port. Problem was, the driver hadn't driven anyone to the port before and didn't know where to drop us off. We didn't know either. We ended up in the long line of cars trying to park and the port personnel couldn't, wouldn't let the driver out of the line. SO - in a few weeks I'm again staying overnight at Days Inn, planning to Uber to the port for an Ecstasy cruise. In case I'm unlucky enough to get another driver who doesn't know the port set-up, how do I instruct him or her as to where to drop me? Thanks in advance because I know you Charleston people know this and are generous with your expertise. Really. I appreciate you posters.

  8. So are you saying you don't use glasses/cups to fill your water bottle and fill it directly from the faucet?

Is it from a combo water fountain/spigot?

I have to admit I find different fears interesting, to say the least. I work in a hospital laboratory. It makes me cringe to shake hands but there are tons of people who insist on it, even when I purposefully leave my hand at my side.

My hospital has a couple combo water fountains/spigots built specifically for refilling sports bottles. You’d think if there was a real danger of disease transmission that a hospital would not have these....

  9. It was at the end of April so I'm past the 30 days. I can see them sticking to the "rule" if I'd just changed my mind. But that is not the case. The Next Cruise agent checked her screen and told us that NCL was cruising from Vancouver to Tokyo September 27, 2017 and then on to Singapore 19 days later. We bought the certificates based on that information

Itineraries can change at any time, even up to day of sailing. They can also be cancelled at any time. Doubt they lied. They told you what was true when they looked. Now the schedule has been cancelled or changed. It happens. At least it happened before you booked. You can pick another cruise or sell the certificate, but you have no leg to stand on against NCL.

  10. our experience on the Breakaway: I won't go into to detail but we saw a couple tweens horsing around and they knocked a lady's walker almost over: parents didn't say a word to hem: also, hubby has a mobility problem and I nicely asked a young girl who was laying across a couch if she could sit up so he could sit down? She said no and her parents said nothing to her.

This makes me see red, I have to admit. I have a lot of leg pain but I usually stand so that disabled DM or DH can sit, and I am not at all shy about asking people to scoot over so they can sit. If someone was taking up that much space and rudely not move I believe I would just have DM or DH sit anyway. Definitely, I would, and have, gotten loud when repeating the request. Every head turning to look might be a motivator, might not, but this is a push button topic for me.

  11. Since I don’t plan on leaving my purse or bag somewhere like I would if I went to the beach I plan on carrying mine. Especially because of the strained relations between our governments I think it would be safer. I trust the people-I don’t trust politics.

  12. We have a Havana tour set up through Blexie with Raul. Blexie said to bring an SD card and Raul would take pictures for us, presumably on his camera. Has anyone done this? It would be great because then I could maybe relax but am curious as to whether his camera would be good, whether his photography would be good, etc.

I’ve had both good and bad experiences with tour guides taking pictures so that is why I’m asking, plus no one else has mentioned this that I know of. In New York City our guide dropped my camera on rocks in Central Park and broke it. In Cozumel our guide took fantastic pictures while we were snorkeling, much better than I would have. Two guides, two very different outcomes.

If I go that route I plan on bringing an extra card just to give him plus an extra tip.

  13. If you are sailing with someone (like most people) its $25 or less for a "free" excursion as you correctly pointed out its $50 per cabin credit. Of all the "free" offers I think this is the most misleading. They should say "discounted" excursions. Off the top of my head, I cant think of an excursion that costs $25. I suppose maybe a museum? A bus tour would be $49.00 easily.

Lol, DH offered to stay on the ship if I wanted to keep the promo and do something by myself to use the $50....

  14. In the last three days I have received two different proforma emails from NCL with the Introductory Page quite clearly stating:-

    FREE SHORE EXCURSIONS.

It does not state that there are Shore Excursion Credits but that there are Free Shore Excursions.

The date of the Cuba cruise we are on is included in the later information.

Is anyone able to help me with details of who I should approach to get these FREE SHORE EXCURSIONS.

In New Zealand repeated advertising of that form would be taken as misleading advertising and be subject to a legal challenge and, almost certainly, a hefty fine.

IF they have an excursion $50 or less then, yes, that is free. I once picked this promo years ago and then started actually looking at the offered excursions. It would have been way more expensive to book through them than do what we wanted on our own, as we had 3 in the cabin, and it’s $50 per cabin, not person! I quickly called and changed promos.

  15. MDW and I are Silver Lattitudes members and we are bringing our adult son with us and he is staying in our cabin. Do you know if they'd allow him to attend the Lattitudes cocktail party with no status if he is in the same cabin as us?

Thinking about attending the party since we won't have UDP and its been awhile since we cruised with NCL. If not, it won't make or break the cruise.

Never had anyone ask for anything when we’ve attended. Our DD went with us when we cruised together, no problem.

  16. Posted this on another thread, but it's relevant here. Can anyone definitively say whether the Haven Sundeck on Getaway is adult only? Also is it non-smoking? Those are two of my priorities for Vibe vs. Haven sundeck. Don't care about the hot tubs. The other is the bar in the Vibe vs. going down one flight and bringing up the drinks. But the adults only and non-smoking are more important. I can't seem to get a definitive answer for the Getaway. Leaving tomorrow!

It’s nonsmoking and you don’t need to go to the bar at all. Waiters came by constantly.
