  1. Is there a reason you must sail from a UK port?

Myself & my husband cannot fly so are restricted to doing round trips from UK ports. I know that is our problem and not the cruise lines but was just curious as to whether it was feasible for cruise companies that do the Med to go to new places, maybe other ports along the South of France or the coasts of Italy and Croatia.

  2. Yes I was referring to new places in the Med. What I should have explained also is my restriction of having to sail from a UK port.

Seems the cruise lines that sail from the UK go to the same places all the time.

  3. I bet that lots of people on here have done the Med to death. I would love the cruise companies to find new places to visit or is it because a lot of ports don't have the facilities to take cruise ships?

  4. We will be docking in Koper in July and thinking of the shore excursion to Ljubliana, i have read that nothing is open..is this the case? I know it's a wee while away but I like to have my ship in order;)

    Many thanks in advance

Not a great deal happening in Koper either. It's only a small place and can be covered in an hour. I would definitely opt for some sort of half day excursion and you will still have time to cover Koper when you get back.

  5. In the past I have seen cruises advertised as quote "child places available for £99". I realise that is not EVERY cruise but it is the reason why I was surprised that a child is full amount.

  6.

I've seen "children sail free" specials' date=' but they always seem to be while school is in session and usually on cruise lines we're not interested in.[/quote']

Maybe that's the answer as this cruise is during the half term school holidays so I'm guessing RCI know they can sell the cabins anyway.

  7. I was looking at a 4 nighter on IOTS this October for 2 adults + 1 child sharing a cabin but the price for the child is the same as the adult price. Why is this when the 3rd bed is basically " a bunk". I was expecting it to be half price or the very least some reduction .

I'm sure somebody out there will explain the economics.

  8. It irks me to continually read ads from the cruise companies that tout "50% Off Deposit" or "Reduced Deposit if you Book by "Date". Who are they trying to fool? You do not save anything by falling for their ad, as the entire deposit must be paid at the end anyway. So what if you only pay half as much for a few months, then make the final payment as usual? It is not as though your unspent money is going to earn big bucks nowadays.

Or have I missed the whole point?

What irks us in the UK is that if you cancel the cruise before final payment you don't get your deposit back :mad::mad:

  9. We want to collect Passport stamps!!! We've taken several cruises (Med, British Isles, Rhine River, Panama Canal, getting ready to do the Baltic this summer) where we've ended up visiting many countries, but because the ship keeps our passports we don't get our passports stamped. Traveling between European Union countries gets no stamps either, unless you fly home from one of them.

Anyone know any tricks/suggestions on how we can get some official stamps in our Passports, or on some other document, so we have something to show the grandchildren in the future?

    Thanks

If your Baltic itinerary includes St Petersburg you will get a stamp there.

  10. My currrent roll call is only my second one (did not know about cruise boards before that). I have been lucky to have been on two very active roll calls (the first one had over 2600 posts and the current one - still ongoing - has almost 2000). If I were on a really slow one, I might lose interest. Also, if there were personality issues on the roll call, I might quit. It's great when the people on a roll call just seem to become friends from the start. There is at least one roll call on CC still active for a cruise that sailed almost six years ago!

Think that could be my old roll call. We sailed in July 2006 on the Golden Princess and we just all hit it off. Several of us have met up since, visited homes and sailed again together. :):):)

  11. My point is that you can get there, you might not want to. Big difference. Frankly if my choice was to limit myself or take a longer journey to get there, I'd take the journey. Otherwise, like you, I'd be limited to the Caribbean. Boring.

    Autocorrect responsible for most typos...

Doesn't matter if I departed from Southampton or any other European port I would still end up in the Med, The Canaries or the Baltic.
