  1. I'm leaving at the end of June, and when I started my diet (WW) on 2/15 I had 25 to lose. I am thrilled to be down over 6 lbs already! I don't necessarily expect to be at goal by the time I cruise; no end date in mind. I just hope that I don't undo all the weight loss on the week-long cruise!:D

Anyway, good luck to all of us; keep eating healthy and moderately!

  2. I see how upset many of you are with the OP. I think I get OP's point - if "perks" are being offered, MY (naive?) assumption is that they are special incentives that you are getting for the same price as the usual fare. If there is a no-frills fare, then the "perks" are actually things you are paying for, ergo they are NOT perks.

  3. Hi! I'll have a midship balcony, sailing from NYC to the Bahamas in July. Has anybody seen anything interesting in the way of marine life while cruising? Especially from midship. My brother once saw a sailfish from an aft balcony. This will be my third cruise, and I always hope to see something, but so far I haven't except at the ports. I will continue to hope :D

  4. I am still in the planning stages of my cruise, so I dk when I will be going, but I am already thinking about the food issue since I just (re)started WW the day after Valentine's day. I am already down 5.5 lbs, which is huge for me. I am usually a very slow loser. I'm doing the online version, and so far, it is ok. I am loving the new plan. I use those little colored peppers and fruit as snacks. I find that if I make one meal a day a really low-point meal, the rest of the day is no problem. For me, that means either tuna with lemon, celery, and chopped pickles or my favorite breakfast, cut up apple, orange, and a serving of plain fat-free greek yogurt. It's like dessert to me.

I would love it if anyone has any other easy and low-point ideas.:)

  5. We saw 2 different shows, and there were two others that we couldn't make if I remember correctly. We had reservations for both shows, made at different times. Maybe there is a restriction regarding more than one reservation at a time; we made the second after we had seen the first show. Very funny group; I would have seem all the available shows if I had the time.

We sail from NYC a lot. I will never get another balcony on that route. The sliding glass doors don't seal perfectly & the doors whistle at the high sailing speeds. I imagine it would be the same from Boston. I got no sleep. Drove me crazy. Since the windows don't open, they are sealed & there's no whistling. :D

We are sailing from Florida this time so we will have a balcony because it is nice to sit outside. At the slower Caribbean speeds, even at night between ports, no whistling.

Hi Trish. I just got off the BA sailing out of NYC. Just asking: did you close and LOCK the balcony door? When the door is closed but unlocked, there was noise (sound of the ocean) but when the door was locked there was no noise at all.

  7. I was on the ship last week along with OP. I didn't eat at Ocean Blue, but I went to a couple of talks/cooking demonstrations by Geoffrey Zaccarian and I find the comments about saltiness very surprising in light of his comments. He said that salt should be underdone, if anything, because what tastes good the first bite will taste overseasoned by the 4th bite. He also repeatedly indicated that his focus is on keeping the natural flavor of the excellent ingredients, vs adding complicated sauces and seasonings. It sounds like the restaurant is not living up to his expectations in cooking, as well as with the apparently poor behavior of the waiters.

  8. I would LOVE to swim with the dolphins, but I've read too many reports of the dolphins being depressed and even suicidal (drift to the bottom of the tank and don't come up for air) to participate in a dolphin encounter. If they are in the wild and want to swim with me, that would be great.

  9. I am going on the Breakaway 12/7, and with the great fares we sprang for an aft balcony, which I know I will love. That being said, I am looking to keep expenses very low. What fun things are there to do in Nassau that aren't official excursions and aren't expensive. If you have any tips for Port Canaveral, I'd love to hear those as well. Thanks!:D
