  1. I will be going on my third cruise - this time on the Escape, with a balcony on the starboard side, about 1/4 back from the bow (15156). On the other two cruises (Gem and Breakaway) I was in aft balconies. Are side balconies very windy? I know the view is better aft, but I am hoping that it isn't unpleasant to sit out on a side balcony. Does the deck level make a difference? (Not that I am going to change the cabin!) I just want to know what I am in for.

  2. Howl at the Moon was one of my favorite things when I was on the Breakaway, and one of the things I am looking forward to on the Escape! I had never been to anything like it, so I have no basis for comparison, but it was totally fun. And I loved that unlike more formal entertainment, it was drop in.

  3. Thanks all for your thoughts. I know that it will be a different kind of vacation given the lack of privacy, but I am sure that we can do the changing/bathroom situations without much problem. We gave our son [and me! :)]the UBP . My husband is not much of a drinker and can sip my drinks. FYI, everyone in a spa cabin gets use of the spa, it isn't like the promotional perks. I'm happy to hear that others have had 3-4 in these cabins and have survived!

  4. OP, thanks for sharing your story! I am so sorry to hear about all the tribulations of 2017, but I am SO GLAD that things are now so good for you son. All the best for all of you, and I hope that you have a wonderful and event-free cruise. And thanks for sharing a positive story about customer service/travel insurance. We are always more likely to post complaints, and don't remember as often to post when things work well.

  5. Back to UBP and tipping. Thanks for all your input. I have decided that, even as a relative nondrinker, it would be fun to be able to try at least 2 of these interesting cocktails daily, even if I don't drink the whole thing. That is probably enough to make the "free" package worthwhile. And then I can try more than 2 if I want!

  6. OP, I hear you - not that you were looking for something, but needed to vent and be commiserated with, at least, by NCL. Whoever is at fault initially, whether or not you would have had a successful bid...not relevant. You wanted to be treated kindly, and were not. That is crummy, but I do hope that it won't interfere with a wonderful cruise experience. I hope that you get out ok in spite of weather. Safe sailing

  7. Ugh. You are in a bad position. I hate people like that. It's nice you are taking care of the pre-cruise details but once on board the ship I would stop playing group leader. You don't want to have that feeling of being responsible for their good time. They are big boy and girls, that's on them.

Do some stuff together. Take some time to yourself or hubby if the mood hits you. You may be pleasantly surprised at how much they enjoy themselves or get out and about on their first cruise.

I know that wasn't really what you asked but it's minus 9 degrees wind chill and I'm stuck in the house and bored. :)

I totally agree with ColinIllinois. It is unreasonable for you to be expected to plan their vacation. I would share with them what you have already planned, and make sure that they know that the rest is up to them. I agree that sharing links about packing is a good idea, but you can't make them read it. You will have to be able to live with that. It seems like you are being set up to be the fall guy for whatever is "wrong"; not a good place to be.

  8. cruise lines often refine subsequent versions of the same ship. I sailed Getaway and was very pleased overall. I then sailed Escape and found it better....it just seemed a bit more polished , although I can't nail down the actual difference. Now that the Breakaway will be heading the Miami in 2019 I am considering her as well. Since she was the first of the series, are there any down sides to her minus the pool area which appears very tight.

Is Breakaway being maintained? Is she worth a try? Will it be so similar I won't be able to tell the difference?

Or are there little differences that when put together make Breakaway not as good as Escape?

    Thought greatly appreciated.

    Bumping up.

I'm hoping some more experienced cruisers will be able to answer this. I've been on the Breakaway, and I'm booked for the Escape August 2018.

  9. Money talks as long as you don't mind paying, Haven guests don't get a free tour. Platinum Latitude members get a shortened tour. Paid one is open to all and longer on sea day, about $80 p/p, must wear closed toes shoes for safety & involve walking, standing & up/down some stairs, i.e. stairs in backstage. Check Freestyle Dailies & ask/sign up with Excursion Desk.
