  1. Good afternoon Brimary - Yes all is well on The Wind - boarded yesterday in Venice ( Not San basilio as has been pinched by Asamara !!! - in the main Terminal but a shuttle has been running to san Marco which is not too bad I suppose but we do miss the convenience of SB )

Gianni is on board with his wife and he looks well - we are dining with him soon so will catch up with the News. A full ship with lots of US & canadian guests - thankfully no children yet seen !!!!. The Pool is at a very acceptable temperature !!!

We are on until barcelona so will send any gossip or observations as we proceed - we are looking forward to seeing you both nest June. Yes the ship is the age she is but I would not say overtly tired - just like an old Friend.

Looking forward to reading your comments over the next 10 days. We have friends on board who are doing their first cruise

  2. I have a friend that is taking his first cruise. He always insists on tipping. I have tried to explain this might be in bad taste on Silversea. I know for a fact it is on Seabourn where it is really discouraged except for the crew fund which rewards everyone. Do passengers tip individuals on Silversea?

  3. Another Christmas with Sophie would be great. I wonder when she's switching back to Odyssey then?

She is presently scheduled on Odyssey from Dec 3rd to March 21st. I notice that Steve Wozniak is scheduled to be lecturer on Dec 15th, but our experience has been that speakers like him tend to get better offers.

  4. Hello,

My husband and I are taking a 3 week trip to Europe for our honeymoon. We are going to spend the first 2 weeks sightseeing between France and Italy, and the 3rd week will be on the Seabourn Odyssey cruise. We don't want to take all the luxury clothes with us for the first 2 weeks, and we're wondering if there is a way to ship ourselves a package full of clothes that we can pick up in Venice before our cruise ship departs. Or possibly directly to the cruise ship. Do you have any suggestions?

We are on the Seabourn Odyssey leaving Venice June 20, 2015.

    Thank you!

We regularly use Luggage Forward with excellent results! Your luggage will be waiting for you in your suite. We are so impressed with them we are now using them to ship luggage even when we are not on cruises. Makes travel so much easier with just carry on!! Have a wonderful honeymoon.

  5. i think it's appropriate to call a spade a spade.

It's not the dress code that is getting sloppier. It is the passengers who are sloppy at home, their places of employment, at restaurants and other social venues, at their places of worship, and when travels that is apparent. They dress and act as spoiled teenagers do when they might as well know better, given their age. But as they are entitled to do so, and insist on their right to do so, the results are what you see when you look at them in the mdr. Don't those photos on another recent thread of the woman in the observation/constellation lounge with her feet on the upholstered chair make the point? Another reference point is a delightful, well dressed and articulate teenager named emily whose charming and resourceful father able seaman both post on this board and do themselves, their cohort and seabourn credit through their conduct on board.

My own policy is to dress according to my own (and the former seabourn) standards and comport myself accordingly. The extends to steering clear big-time-o of any people with overt racist, extreme political, vulgar and sexist talk from many of those same "entitled" people. On a positive note, and as noted above, there are many many smart, kind, experienced and delightful people from all over the world on seabourn and they comport themselves with class. That mix and opportunity to mix with them makes it easy to overlook and avoid the boors.

    Happy sailing!

    amen!!!!

  6. But men are still unlikely to gain access in just a jacket

Very definitely NOT the case on the 115 day Sojourn cruise we did this winter. Truly unbelievable how people dressed on formal nights. One guy even wore a leather "bomber" jacket. Most men just wore jackets with no ties and about 25% of us wore tuxes. People did dress a nicer for Christmas and New Year.

  7. We stayed at the airport Crown Plaza in a day room after disembarking and waiting for our evening flight. Very comfortable room. Easy taxi ride from port - 18 Singapore Dollars. Sounds like you are looking for a place to relax before the cruise.

  8. We have been disappointed that dress on Seabourn is really getting casual. Many men no longer even wear a tie on formal nights. Is the same thing happening on Silversea?
