Bummer that they did this the day before, when people were already en route and some had already cancelled for FCC. Wonder when they knew about the positive cases and when they made this decision.

So if people already took FCC, they wouldn't lock them into the FCC if they ended up cancelling the cruise?  Would they?  I think they have a policy to convert your FCC to a refund if the cruise is cancelled.  At least they did at one time.

I'm sure that cruise lines will do everything possible to keep cruising, but I also think that may not be possible.  I think this will happen mostly because they will get so many cancellations.  But I certainly don't "want" them to shut down.

Sadly, it looks like it's starting.  The Norwegian Pearl is heading back to port, and the Norwegian Getaway is cancelled.

No doubt that is a convenient side effect, but do they really have the time and resources to test every passenger who wants 'peace of mind'?

Not every passenger.  But if they lock you up because they feel that you're a threat to other passengers, then of course that person has a reason to be worried that they may be positive.

At first I though this was going to be a huge potential for increasing onboard cases, but just read an article that states antigen is basically useless in detecting omicron.

We are currently getting about half a million new cases every day in America.  So a lot of those tests must be working.

Many of you have put me in a positive of defense, called me a liar, an opportunist, trying to milk the company etc and that's not fair.  None of it. I want RCCL to do what they promised and treat us and the situation with a modicum of respect which has not happened.

I'm sorry that you are still dealing with a bad experience, and you try to share your first hand account of what could happen, and then you get attacked.

I think some people may feel threatened by any negative reports about the cruise industry.  They want to go on "their" cruise, no ifs, ands, or buts.  And they are worried that negative reports could somehow impact their cruise.  But trying to suppress or discredit bad news isn't going to change reality.

No we didn't. We asked for our peace of mind, even though we weren't showing any symptoms and were told "the ship doesn't have the capability to do testing"

Maybe this is an example of how the cruise lines avoid showing too many positive cases.  I they don't test, they don't get positive results.

The Celebrity poster wasn’t allowed to stay in their cabin. They were moved to “Covid Row”, just like on Royal. Their quarantine cabin had a balcony, but others posting in that thread said theirs didn’t so sounds like pot luck.

And the people who do get a balcony on COVID row are not allowed to open the balcony door.

Actually she did say that. Someone quoted the aida shut down and she replied maybe they should shut down.

Yes, I saw that post.  @Rosy Season never said that he/she "wants" cruises to shut down.  Those are two different things.

Again, the cruise lines won't listen to me, and nothing said here will have the slightest impact on "your" cruise.

Welcome to Cruisecritic.  Thank you for sharing your experience and I'm sorry to hear that your 25th anniversary was not what you signed up for.

It sounds like you never received a COVID test once you were quarantined?  Is that true?

You also say you want rcl to shut down......Then I'm mad.

@Rosy Season never said that he/she "wants" RCL to shut down.  Nobody "wants" any cruise line to shut down.  Nobody wants a world with a raging pandemic.  But we have to deal with the world the way that it is and not the way that we wish it was right now.

Rosy went through a very difficult experience with quarantine, and other cruisers would never see a first hand account unless it was posted  here. And I appreciate that point of view, and I will also look at other reviews.  I want to hear all of their opinions, and I make my own judgements about them.

Maybe the cruise lines will need to shut down, and maybe they won't.  You might disagree with an opinion, but I don't think it's worth getting mad, because nothing that anybody posts here will have the slightest affect on "your" cruise.

Since this is not NCL and it is most likely going to get the thread locked or deleted it would probably be best to leave this topic alone.

There's no rule about mentioning other cruise lines, especially if we discuss how they compare with NCL.   This thread shouldn't get locked if it stays on topic, free of politics, and members try to be nice to each other, which isn't always typical on CC.

There was a report that on Harmony of the Seas that there were hundreds of passengers and hundreds of crew positive, but the official CDC report shows only one passenger and 49 crew testing positive.

Cruiselines are not counting many passengers who test positive days after the cruise, test positive at the pier, or test positive right before they leave home.  So it's really hard to know the true number of people who are affected.

He's not accounting for people who test positive immediately after cruising.  Not in his interest.

Yes, the crew has routine testing, but the passengers are not tested unless they are symptomatic, and even if they do have symptoms, some passengers may choose to not report it.  This also doesn't account for the passengers who may test positive at home and need to cancel at the last minute.

Just a thought. Does one have an ethical obligation to immediately report a positive Covid test to the ship physician?

What would you want your fellow passengers to do?  I was always taught to treat others as I would like them to treat me.

  14. Where we live there is a 90% vaccination rate, and people have always worn masks, but our case rates are 20 times higher than two weeks ago.   I hope that I"m wrong, but I think Omicron will be too much for the cruise industry to handle right now.  I think we will see a pause in one or two weeks.

  15. In this environment, I think it would be better for NCL if they had a 30 day final payment.  Things may change for the better in the next 30 days.  If we could have waited another 30 days we could have let it ride.  They may have a hard time filling the March and April sailings.

According to the poll, 75% are cancelling at final payment time.  So if they were already sailing at a reduced capacity of say 2000, that may leave them with just 500 passengers on a megaship.
