  1. Need some help to clarify.  I paid $250 for my husbands and my deposit for an upcoming trip on Norwegian in June 2021.  Talking to family members and their  concerns about my health (we are in our 60's and I have heart and lung issues) we decided to cancel and wait and see what happens in the coming years.  Is my deposit refundable?  It is outside the 119 days that shows up on Norwegians website for refunds but my TA is saying we don't get a refund but a FCC.  Help!!!

  2. As of March 11, 2020, Viking is temporarily suspending operations of our river and ocean cruises, for embarkations taking place between March 12 to April 30, 2020. We believe Viking will be in a better place to provide the experiences our guests expect and deserve after this time and plan to resume operations on May 1, 2020, continuing all further sailings as originally planned.

When itinerary changes are required, impacted guests and their travel agents are notified directly by Viking Customer Relations. Please log onto MyVikingJourney.com for details regarding your specific voyage.

For those guests whose cruise falls within this window of suspended operations, we are offering the choice of a Future Cruise Voucher valued at 125% of all monies paid to Viking or a refund equal to the amount paid. Guests will have 24 months to use their Future Cruise Voucher to make a new reservation on any river, ocean or expedition cruise. For additional flexibility, if you are unable to use your voucher, we will automatically send you a refund equal to the original amount paid to Viking after the voucher expires. These Future Cruise Vouchers will also be fully transferable

  5. We will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days,” President Trump said, adding “the new rules will go into effect Friday at midnight. These restrictions will be adjusted subject to conditions on the ground. There will be exemptions for Americans who have undergone appropriate screenings. This does not apply to legal permanent residents, (generally) immediate family members of U.S. citizens, and other individuals who are identified in the proclamation,” which does not appear to indicate the total ban implied by the President’s phrasing on live television.

  6. Hi.  We just made our reservations through Viking to deviate also.  When we saw how much they were charging for the two nights at the hotel we were able to do it on our own for a lot less money.   Since we planned on deviating on the way back home for a month in Cleveland to see our two grand babies we were going to pay for the fee anyways but by doing our own planning in Prague it was still cheaper.

  7. When we planned on our 2020 cruise I was told by my TA that final payment was due Dec. 2018. I was surprised to say the least as I was used to paying final payment six months prior to sailing. My TA said she would call Viking and ask them. When she called they said "when do you want to pay?" I now owe final payment Dec 2019!!!! Just ask.

  8. Hi there. New to viking cruises and so enjoying reading all of your posts. We are not due for our cruise until June 2020. When I was told by my TA that final payment was due Dec. 2018 I said Oh thats strange compared to other cruise lines. So she called Viking and they said "when would you like to make your final payment?" So I said Dec. 2019 and voila that is when it is. I think you can always ask when something does not seen right or something bothers you. They can either say no or do as you ask.

  9. We did the Empress Hotel Tea through the cruise line so our transportation was covered. It was okay. I wasn't that bowled over with it and it's pricey. You might get a more authentic tea somewhere else.

I had read reviews on the ship one and since nobody was thrilled with it we have chosen to go outside the ships tours and find one locally. Thank you for your help.

    :)

  10. We live in the Victoria area. My 83 year old mother is of UK heritage and the White Heather Tea room is her favorite place for high tea. It is worth a look too...

The White Heather Tea room looks fantastic and has great reviews but unfortunate, upon further looking, is not open on Mondays when our ship arrives. Maybe next trip!!! Again thank you for your help.

  11. You port time of 7a-2p for Victoria will make attending high tea a little tricky.

Getting a cab from port to any of the tea houses will be easy but getting one of the early tea times may be a bit tricky.

I have had tea at both the Empress and The Pendray and must say I was more impressed with The Pendray.

This lists all the teas in Victoria and the websites to go to.

Get one of the 11:00 times and have fun.

Thank you so much for the reply. I was not aware that there was a difference to when teas were!!! The afternoon tea would work great for us. Again thank you for let making me aware of the differences.

  12. Had a High Tea at the Empress Hotel just this past October. It was lovely and very filling! You might need a reservation though depending on what day you want to go. The Empress Hotel is just on the inner harbour and never having been to Victoria by ship I can't tell you how far from where the ship docks. There are horses and carriages that do tours so I would think you might be able to arrange for a pick up. Contact the Victoria Visitors Bureau for additional information.

It was not cheap but it was really nice.

Thank you so much for the information. I will check it out!!!

  13. Hello fellow cruisers,

My two sisters and I are going on a ten day cruise to Alaska from San Francisco in May. I would like to surprise them with a high tea while we are in Victoria. Where is the best high tea? And how would we get to it from the ship? Can we have a horse and carriage pick us up? Any suggestions would be great. Oh, we are all in our early 60's and we don't want too much walking as I have a broken back and cannot walk distances. Other than that we are young at heart!!!

  14. I know that this might not be a big deal to some but to my husband it is. When we were on the Princess Emerald several months ago, from Sydney to the USA they had TERRIBLE dogs and burgers up by the pool area. The dogs were not what they used to serve; Ball park type. These were mealy and disgusting tasting and did not look right. Anyone else have this experience or was this just an Emerald thing?

  15. Because Princess no longer lets us know before hand any of this (movies and entertainment aboard) is why I asked the question. I know that the most important thing is that I will be on the ship in 29 days (nope not counting yet), with the love of my life (celebrating 33 years in May) and seeing places I have never seen before (well we did see Hawaii for our 30th anniversary but the rest is new.). Should I have seen all the movies being offered I am sure that I can think of other things to do!!!

  16. Several years ago, I think it was going from USA to Hawaii, there were at least 12 plus full size seeing eye dogs on board. They had a group of blind passengers on board, all with dogs. The dogs were exercised at the top of the ship where the basketball courts were and you could go interact with them if you wanted to. I never saw the dogs other than up on top of the ship. The blind passengers would travel in a group, holding on to each others shoulders, in a straight line.

  17. Hi Trish, we will be on her April 12th and cannot wait. This will our third time on the Emerald. My husband would like to know if Carina from Peru is still working in one of the dining rooms? I know that this is a long shot but we loved her. We had her on a European cruise on the Emerald. Have a great trip!!!

  18. Was able to get our cruise down by $1200 per person with the Exotic special as it drops the price by 20% but it is capacity controlled. So bottom line is, new invoice shows same amount as before for the taxes, fees and port charges but they dropped the price of the cruise by $2300 for the two of us.

  19. So you think that it is a mistake from the TA? I never paid attention to the invoice until I saw what Princess would charge me with the new Sale being offered. Guess I will wait to hear back from my TA and see what the new invoice looks like with the sale price. Thanks for your quick reply.
