  1. We are on the short Disney Dream cruise to the Bahamas with all the kids and Grands in August. We have decided against Atlantis because of the $$ and our Grands are so young (5,4,3,3) We are planning to just stay on the ship and enjoy the pool. After seeing how close the Hilton looks to the port I am wondering about trying to get the family to go there. The beach in the port webcam looks very calm and nice. My 3 year old grand daughter is ALL ABOUT going to the beach and I would be crushed if for some weather reason we couldn't make it to the beach at Castaway the day after Nassau. Do they do day passes there? Is it as close to the port as the webcam makes it look? Nice hotel?? Food options?

  2. We are going on our first Disney Cruise on the Dream in August and taking all of the kids and grands with us. I am finding the cruise website surprisingly difficult and information kind of hard to find. Since it is our first Disney cruise (and a very short cruise) I am trying to find out as much information as possible and be prepared for all our family who have never cruised before. I know that I am just a tad stressed as this is our very first big family vacation and I REALLY want this to be a great experience for all! HELP!

To those who are regular Disney cruisers can you give this DCL newbie Mimi a heads up...hints and helps?!?

It is becoming apparent that because we are new to Disney we will have little or no chance at Cabanas or other perks. Right?

I have excursions taken care of. What else needs to be done before cruising?

I cannot find the PAT on any of my information. How important is this? We have already booked a car service that has us arriving at 11am. Is that too early? Since the cruise is so short I wanted the kids to be able to enjoy the ship as early as possible. It seems that I have read that the boarding process is very different to Celebrity (our usual cruise line)

I keep reading about how crazy crowded that the pool area is...more so than other cruises? Any tips?

Very confused about dining. I don't think that we will go for the specialty dining on such a short cruise and we have so many little ones with us. We are booked in early dining. Should I rethink this? is the kids program available during the dining hours?

Sorry, I feel as if this post is as confusing as I am confused:confused:

Thank you in advance for any help that you are able to provide

  3. Oh no! I didn't make that post very clear did I ...

I was responding to the poster who said my questions had already been answered in earlier threads[emoji57]THAT is what I was apologizing for. As always, CC posters have been very generous and have shared a wealth of information

  4. My family has planned a short cruise (Disney Dream to the Bahamas) to celebrate my birthday...I know, right? I DO have the best husband, kids and grandkids on the planet!!!! 10 of us traveling. 6 adults and a 5,4,3, and 2 year old. My problem is that none of my children or grands have cruised before and because DH and I cruise so much they keep asking me questions that I cannot answer for Disney cruises

Can you buy water or soda packages on board? If yes any idea how expensive?

Will Disney let us bring bottled water on board with our luggage?

I am scouring my brain to help my kids budget their limited disposable $$

What will they have to budget for on this cruise besides drinks and excursions...what might I be missing?

    Thank you CC in advance!!

  5. We have cruised for years, mostly on RCCL and Celebrity. We became loyal to Celebrity when they were the first to come out with a strict smoking policy. We are contemplating a cruise on NCL and wondered what their smoking policy was. We so enjoy not having to deal with smoke in inside venues like the casino. Last time we were on a RCCL we laughed at the casino smoking policy... one side smoking and the other non smoking...they forgot to inform the smoke to stay on the smoking side:rolleyes:
  6. Well, this has been an interesting read...

Our decision has been made, we will say nothing. We could not live with ourselves to accuse someone who could be totally innocent. The prescription was for narcotics and we both feel stupid and overly trusting for not putting them in the safe in the first place. We do not take medication (except vitamins) and only filled this prescription in case of an emergency, it just never entered our minds to treat it differently than our vitamins. (Honestly, we both kind of forgot we even had them) I would never leave my jewelry, money or other valuables in a drawer rather than the safe...lesson learned.

  7. If you have your prescription go and see the ships doctor. He may have the meds on board, failing that try a pharmacist when you next get to a port. The pharmacist may be able to give you the 12 tabs you need.

I would be very careful about accusing the crew simply because you may have made a mistake in your counting.

As a matter of course we always take an extra weeks supply of all our meds in case we get held up, miss a flight or some such.

Failing that if you speak with the doctor on board there may be some over the counter meds that he can provide as a substitute.

This is not medication that my husband needs UNLESS his shoulder pain gets out of control. We only filled and brought the medication "just in case"

  8. I find this very disturbing. Firstly... was this prescription in its original bottle? Has your husband taken any of these pills since the prescription was filled? How certain are you of the pill count? Does the bottle specifically state "30" count?

If you can be certain of the above questions, and you feel that pills are missing SINCE you boarded (and not before, ie, hotel stay), then perhaps a discussion with the hotel manager is warranted. You have a genuine concern here, and it shouldn't be take lightly.

Please let us know how this progresses?

The one and only time prior to boarding that this prescription was out of our hands was when our luggage was stored with the hotel bellman. Because of that I don't feel I should accuse anyone on board (even though they had much much easier access). The pills are in original bottle, I am positive of the count and no pills have been taken by my husband.

  9. We are half way through a two week Caribbean cruise. My husband is to have shoulder surgery five days after our return. Our doctor gave us a prescription for pain Meds to bring with us just in case he had problems. I had the pain meds in with our daily vitamins and honestly I forgot about them. Tonight as I was reorganizing our vitamins I realized that they had not been put in the safe... I looked at the bottle and after counting realized 18 of the 30 are missing! I am so upset about this but hate to accuse anyone. I know I should have put them in the safe but the thought of someone going through my things to find them has me very upset. What would you do?

  10. Just happened upon this post....

OMG it made me so happy to see I'm not alone!!!!!!!!

I come from a family of long time Sooner Football fans. We have not missed a home game since graduating in the 70's. Because of our business we cannot travel from May through September then because of football season we cannot travel until December. I have been happily following this schedule for over thirty years and I am tired of it!!!! It is next to impossible to cruise in Europe with your schedule tied to football!!!

My husband was given a plaque that said

"Football is Life". OMG I think he believes it.... I cannot WAIT to show him this thread!

GOOD LUCK with your football nut ;-)

  11. We have not used our TSA approved locks for several years. We are headed out of Port of Miami but flying in and out of FLL. After seeing this I do believe I will find those locks and use them just in case.

  12. I know this is going to sound snotty in type, but I really don't intend it that way. My question is, if you're on the cruise to enjoy your husband, why even attend the events? The point of my question is, I think the presence of ships officers at Celebrity sponsored events is a good thing. Otherwise, why even attend them?

Perhaps I wasn't clear. My question stems from the number of CC posts that I read CONSTANTLY complaining about the presence (or lack there of) of the officers at these events and feeling snubbed. So much to enjoy, why oh why would you take the time to count the number of officers present.

  13. Forgive me if we are just dense or somehow out of the loop that other cruisers are in but my husband and I just do not understand what the big deal is about whether or not the officers attend events. I go on a cruise to enjoy my husband and our friend's company. Why is it so important to so many where the officers are, what events they attend and who they speak too? Of course if I should come across them on board I would expect a nod or a hello, but I would expect that from any passenger. Really, I am not trying to be rude but what are we missing?????

  14. I much prefer the prepaying of tips instead of the envelope system. I found it extremely uncomfortable. My confusion is are we being unfair by not tipping more than the prepaids for expected service? The "dance" that we see from service the final night of the cruise also makes me uncomfortable. Are we being unfair?
