We had the same issues with the food on our recent Vista cruise. We always eat at least the first night in the MDR and were underwhelmed this time. After that dinner was either Cucina, JiJi, Bonsai, or the deli. Luckily we also had some OBC to help out with that. We tried the buffet a couple of times for lunch because the offerings looked good, but were disappointed with that as well. Most lunches were Pasta Bella, Mongolian Wok, Guys, or Blue Iguana. We did find breakfast in the buffet to be decent. Bacon was served twice since I'm sure someone out there is dying to ask 😉

What do you mean bacon was served twice?  Is it not served every day?  We usually cruise Celebrity these days and they have bacon everyday but are sailing on Carnival because of our college kids in tow this time.

I just got off Solstice last week (Mexican riviera)

yes she is not looking as shiny as the edge series but she is in really good shape, you can tell she is well looked after.

service and food is as fabulous as ever. Deck furniture looked fine to me. I had the best cruise

This is good to hear.  We are going on her over thanksgiving to the same place.  So excited to be cruising again.  Love Celebrity and have been on Reflection, Edge, and Equinox and have loved all of them.  Since Reflection and Equinox are in the same class, I'm sure we will love the Solstice too.

  3. We are going on a cruise out of LA but the only stops are in the Mexican Riveria.  When I was looking at drink packages, my planner will allow me to add the classic package for my 19 year old.  Is says must be 18 y/o.  Is that right?  I know the typical rules depend what port you leave out of - US, European, etc.  Could it be because we don't stop at any US ports or is it a glitch?

    TIA - Christine.

The bar area itself is always open to everyone. Once the person leaves the bar area and walks through the sliding glass doors out to the pool area, it is that area that is open to Havana guests only.
At one time the restriction to Havana guests ended at 7 PM. This is no longer the case. The pool area of Havana is open only to those with Havana privileges anytime it is open.

How do they monitor to keep the non-havana people out?

My PVP told me you can apply the FCC to an existing booking but not the $600 OBC, it is for new bookings only.

Thank you.  That is what I was thinking would happen.

  6. My April cruise was cancelled but also have a December cruise booked. Does anyone know if I can apply my FCC and OBC from April's cancellation towards my December cruise or it it has be for a new booking?  I have not chosen between a full refund or FCC yet because I would like to know the answer to my question first.

What’s happened so far to princess ships is the tip of the iceberg. Don’t see how the cruise lines will recover from this. I think your going to see hundreds of ships sitting idle. People are not going to chance going on a cruise only to face a 2 week quarantine. Just wait until  another couple of ships has the infection on board. The cancellations for future cruises will ramp up where they will have no choice and will have to completely shut down.

Do you think the cruise industry will go belly up and go out of business after this?  I hoping to capitalize on the low stock prices, up my monthly dividend check, and maybe sell at a profit years from now.

I agree the issue may be the 2 week quarantine.

  8. We are scheduled for an April 5th sailing and I think there are lots of high school senior spring breakers on that trip.  Maybe just the older at-risk passengers will cancel but don't see many younger passengers canceling because of fear of the virus.  But I do see the issue of cancelling because they can't afford to be quarantined for 2 weeks.

We are driving from Michigan to Florida for our trip.   Our plan is to still cruise and worst case scenario find somewhere in Florida near a beach if it gets cancelled.  Our high schoolers definitely want to enjoy warm weather.  Financially, it would suck to be simultaneously spending money on food, drinks, hotel, & entertainment in a beach town if CCL issues a future cruise credit even though I hopefully can apply it towards my already scheduled December 2020 cruise.  It's not going to break the bank by all means but I am planner and like to know my expected costs.

But under the circumstances its all a crap shoot.  At least we still have 4 weeks for things to settle down - at least I hope things settle down.

The early debarkation for those with early flights would be a different scenario than just general self assist debarkation. I was the one who said by deck number. We had a late flight and were not out of the terminal until 11 because we happened to be one of two last decks called and it was a cluster at customs. That said, I suppose you could not tell the truth about your flight, but since we did not need to rush, we followed the rules and did as instructed. I purposely never book early flights because it's stressful. And, arrival could be delayed for any number of reasons, such as is common with Galveston, fog. You never know.

OH and as an added bonus, it was much easier to get a rideshare out of Galveston later from Ubers/Lyfts that were dropping later arrivals to the port. No surge charges due to heavy volume going back either! 🙂

Thanks for the clarification.  We have 2 carnival cruises this year...one out of FLL next month where we are driving home and one out of Galveston in December where we are flying home.

Those with early flights went down to deck three, forward.  We were directed to the Showtime Theater.  We waited there until the ship cleared and those with early flights could depart.  We went before FTTF. The lines moved very quickly.  we never stopped walking or had to stand in line. I never expected to be off the ship so quickly!

ok thanks.  I hope that happens to us.  How early did you go down?

Disembarkation  -- Did self assist. We were at the airport by taxi at 7:30.

How was self assist handled and what was the process?  On other cruise lines, we just walk down with our luggage and get in line until they are ready to let passengers off and then walk off based on your place in line.  Someone else said on Carnival you wait in a lounge and they let you off by floor numbers.  Is that correct?
