  1. Hi donut

I have sailed on Radiance class several times in aft 9660. Have secured it again for our upcoming Med/Greek cruise in 2014. Usually book a year in advance to get it. Was wondering if you get any noise from the Windjammer in either 1100 or 1104? May want to try specifically the corner JS aft cabin in the future. Is it worth the extra $ for the JS?

    Dolfans from Miami

We have sailed on the Radiance and the Brilliance a few times....always aft-facing cabins. We have sailed on deck 9 but prefer deck 10 for the convenience to the Jammer. (DH makes late afternoon runs for beer and snacks and bypasses the elevators).

Next trip is anniversary next year. We have not sailed since the renovations.

We have never been bothered by Jammer noise. I WILL say we are late night people and are generally tucked in bed early in the morning so we may sleep through any noise. Having said that, I have been known to sleep on a lounge chair on the balcony at night and still have not been bothered by noise from the Jammer.

This brings to mind a wild moment when it rained.....and I had my lounge chair out by the railing. DH does not wake gracefully and was shocked when I came tumbling back into the cabin with pillows and blankets in the middle of the night.

.....and again he was not as thrilled as I was the first time I saw the Southern Cross....at 3 am and wanted him to enjoy it too.

Perhaps WE made more noise than the Jammer later in the mornings!

  2. Just back from Radiance southbound and we had JS 1602 which was a fabulous size room & balcony. We've had D2 9256 on Brilliance and it was great also. Have JS 1100 booked on Serenade for Europe so then I'll be able to compare all three!

Awwwwwwwwe. That was our cabin 7 years ago tomorrow when we were married in Juneau. Great cabin.....especially filled with flowers and Just Married decorations.

  3. JS 1100! Huge aft balcony. It's right above 9256.

1100 is OUR cabin for our next cruise.

I find just about anything facing aft. If we plan a D1 vs. the Junior Suite, 1100, we generally go for 1104....center facing aft.

Best thing about aft-facing cabins you ask? You will be able to enjoy the view on BOTH sides of the ship. No worries about missing something because you are on the wrong side.

Check them out on You Tube....

    Nothing beats an aft! Enjoy

  4. I have told the story before.......

I am a former TA from lifetimes ago so when an aft-facing balcony cabin opened up around final payment for DH's first cruise, I grabbed it. We do spend a great deal of time out there-DH was in love instantly.

Problem now? He whimpers like a puppy if I suggest anything else.

One of the many wonderful things about an aft facing cabin is you will enjoy the scenery on BOTH sides of the ship. The environment is more settled out there.....no strong breeze when the ship is steaming hard. In fact, on our Canadian cruise on the Brilliance we never even noticed the night the winds were up to 60 mph on the beam.

We go back to Alaska next year to celebrate our 7th anniversary (married on the Radiance in Juneau). DH booked it while I was recovering from heart surgery. I was pretty blue and he arrived with the news that he had booked cabin 1100 (aft corner JS). What a great way to make me smile.

Someday we will cruise in a non-aft-facing-balcony-cabin (Quantum is our hometown ship and we cannot afford the aft suites). Until then, we will enjoy the jagunda-gunda balconies! I often sleep out there!!!

  5. DH and I are aft cabin, balcony rats. Another big consideration, I seem to have developed strong claustrophobia in the last couple of years.

It's so bad, I was looking at a you tube video of a NCL ship.....you know, the one with no real bathroom....just the cylinder for the shower and cylinder for the toilet (and you can see a fuzzy outline of the person sitting there). Just watching THAT have me the heebe-geebees

Years ago I did cruise in an inside cabin and I missed the view terribly.

I guess we cannot cruise as often, but an inside is no longer a choice for me. I DO enjoy the quiet hours on the balcony. Heck, on the Explorer in the Caribbean, I even SLEPT on the lounge chair on the balcony at night !!

  6. I am happy for you! We have that cabin on our May 31st Alaska cruise, and we are so excited about it :D:D. I booked it on the first day the cruise opened. It will be our first AFT. Hope it will not be too cold out in the balcony in Alaska.

    You will be hooked!

DH whimpers like a puppy if I talk about anything but aft facing.

The day reservations opened for Alaska 2014 I was in the hospital, post heart proceedure, anxious to just go home and more than a little blue. DH showed up with a big grin and a reservation next summer, for our anniversary, on the Radiance, cabin 1100!!! I have even met one couple in our Roll Call who has a wait list on our cabin, currently in the cabin next to us!

We were married in the Radiance in 2007 in Juneau.

  7. These single chair sleepers are all the rage at the new suites and DVC at Walt Disney World. You can read some if the Kool Aid drinkers RAVE about them. Oh yea, these are the same people who justify a $90 p/day park admission as ....... Poor little Disney has to make $$$$$. Don't get me started because I am momentarily blinded by my DH's good healthcare as an ABC employee. I can snap back to reality with Disney mighty fast.

    Back to the chair bed.......

We had one in our 2 bR DVC at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Curious, I opened it one evening. The way I sleep, I would give myself 30 minutes max before I landed on the floor. Unsatisfactory.

  8. it isn't bad...i have had it a couple times...honestly that steak can be hit or miss on any ship, but i don't think i have ever sent it back..(the only thing i ever did send back was chicken a couple years ago....believe it or not it was tougher than shoe leather...and i think it was on Serenade..but i digress..)

The chops filet is awesome...i generally treat myself to it once per cruise...it is REALLY a lot of food, and i am a meatatarian!!

    I completely AGREE about Chops!!!

We were married on the Radiance a few years ago in Juneau. We had the ceremony early so my 90 year old Mom could listen on the phone from the East Coast....a few pictures and then we were back in jeans for the rest of the day.

Our wedding dinner was scheduled in Chops.....could not have asked for anything better and they took such good care of us. My DH was raised on meat and meat (although I have helped him realize salads will not kill him) and Chops is a must do for any of our RCI cruises.

  9. Oh my gosh - sooo many memories. Can't wait to hear the rest.:)

Yes, wonderful memories. We were married on the Radiance 4 years ago on June 24th (Friday).....in Juneau. We will always gave a special place in our hearts for the Radiance.

    ...and.....

As far as sweetened in Canada.......

I used to travel to Canada often for work and I discovered it is challenging to be a diabetic up there. It is truly difficult to find unsweetened or low carb options we are used to down here in the lower 48. I am very careful with my diet and count carbs as my maintenance. One example.....a regular yogurt can be as high as 40 carbs but the "lite and fit" variety is only 17. Guess what you CANNOT find up there!

That's ok. I still loved Canada and her wonderful people.

  10. Actually they do and they are great corner afts - but Aqua suites are a little out of our league (unless grandson doesn't really need a college fund :p;):D).

    Oh my do they EVER!!!!

850 sq. foot cabin......800 sq foot balcony (estimated cabin & balcony size) - have you looked at photos of these....outrageous!

  11. 4 1/2 years ago I convinced my fiancee to cruise in Alaska. We had a side balcony cabin and an aft cabin opened. As he hemmed and hawed about changing....I booked it (former travel agent - specialized in cruising - I knew). On the cruise we peeked in a side balcony cabin....to see the difference.

I created an aft cabin MONSTER!!

We were married on the Radiance of the Seas the following year 1604 - AFT junior suite .....what else..... nothing but aft now.

We are next scheduled for the Explorer of the Seas and will be snuggled in cabin #1688 (aft corner) ....complete with stripper pole!

Thanks for the pictures everybody! We are enjoying them!
