  1.

Be sure to check out the 'secret' aft deck on the Navigation Deck. Just one flight up to the Lido and Seaview Bar, we always seemed to have that secret deck to ourselves - like having a huge balcony without the cost! We stayed in cabin 7056 (an oceanview) and adored the easy access to that aft deck - just five steps out our cabin door and we had the beautiful wake views all to ourselves.

Were you happy with this cabin? It is hard to find any information about the actual cabin, everyone just talks about the deck.

  2. Omg! I can't even imagine trying to pack for such opposite weather trips when you 'll be carrying everything for both legs of the B2B!

No problem at all!! We have just returned from 5 weeks in Europe. Med cruise, walking in Switzerland, travel in France, England, Amsterdam. My backpack weighed 6.7kg. You can only wear one set of clothes at a time so why take a whole wardrobe with you?

  3. I am planning our 2017 cruise. This time we want to do Alaska and the Panama Canal as back-to-back. Could I please have some advice from someone who has done these two cruises together.

Are we better to do May-June (leaving from Florida) or Sept-Oct leaving from Vancouver? I know that these are beginning/end of season for Alaska and I wondered whether one has more settled weather?

I have more questions, but I will wait until I get this part sorted out. Thank you.

  4. Thank you all for your replies. In NZ and Australia it is normal to work through a TA who then works with a travel wholesaler (I hope that that is the correct name). My SIL is living in Australia and I am in NZ. If she does not get a resolution by Monday afternoon I will start emailing and ringing HAL in the USA. I do have her booking number so I can quote that.

  5. I can relax a littlle bit. Brother has just texted to say that the TA will contact HAL on Monday to have it changed and then ring my SIL. (They are in Perth, Australia)

I will not be completely happy until I see the reprinted boarding pass with the correct name. I do not need this kind of excitement when I am in the middle of packing!!

  6. My feelings on situations such as this are you likely will have no problem BUT, it is not your error and you should not have to stress about whether you will have a problem. Either your TA or the cruise line made the error...... let them have the stress of making it right.

I am having a nervous few hours wait until I hear that it has been successfully changed. It is a long journey from NZ to Europe only to be denied boarding because of a missing vowel!

  7. My SIL has just discovered that her first name is spelt incorrectly on her boarding pass. (Virgina instead of Virginia). Mistake made by the agent loading the reservation. Is this likely to cause a problem when she arrives at the ship? I have sent her to the TA this morning to see if it can be corrected before we fly on Friday. Thanks for your help.

  8. Please assist me in finding the correct solution to the following puzzle:

If: (a) one shaves twice per day, (b) the preferred shaving gel can weights between 7-8 ounces, © one prefers not to purchase the common gels often sold on ships

Then: how many cans of shaving gels do I need to bring on board?

Not my major problem in my universe; however, recommendations (do not want to grow a beard) appreciated.

zlato, please follow these instructions to achieve the desired mathematical outcome. :)

    1. Purchase a nice new container of your favourite gel today.
    2. Begin using it tomorrow. (Note on calendar the start date)
    3. The day the can runs out, make another note on calendar.
    4. Add up the number of days to see how long one container lasts.
    5. Divide the number of expected cruise days by the above total.
    6. Buy this many containers (plus one more just incase) of your favourite shaving gel.

Enjoy your wonderful cruise. :) ;)

  9. Hi, we had booked our inside cabin on the EURODAM a year ago on deck 8, Navigation deck, as we had read it should be a large inside. We are sailing in a few days and HAL have just changed our cabin to 4071.

I don't know why they would move us but am more concerned if this change is OK. We are always cautious about being next to a noisy, vibrating area on the ship so have booked a room for many years knowing we wouldn't get moved.

Does anyone know if 4071 is OK?

    Would appreciate any info.

    Thanks.

    Hi Fiona,

I am assuming that you booked with a travel agent here in NZ. When your agent has made the booking with Francis Marketing in Auckland they have failed to tell the person to mark your reservation as 'no upgrade'.

Enjoy all that extra daylight in your room, and have a fabulous cruise.

  10. I am outside the U.S. living in Bermuda. I booked directly with HAL. Did you book through a TA that might not be the reason why. Do you have an account on the HAL website? If so login go to my account then My Resevations then it should be at the bottom right of the page.

Thanks for your reply RAYSAN. Yes I have a HAL account and I can access my reservation. There is a large white area at the bottom right of the page, so I am guessing that that is where I should be seeing it. Looks like I need to rely on our TA to give me proof of our offer.

  11. Personally, I'll be going with "formal" (actually semi-formal - I decided not to pack my crinolines and corsets) on the Gala/Formal/Whatever they are calling it by my sail date nights, and smart casual to fancy, almost semi-formal on the other nights in the MDR, and I'll enjoy the dressing up as part of the adventure!

Khaos WolfKat, you do realise that we expect to see photos when you get back from your cruise! Have fun.

  12. Good luck trying to bring a dried out sandwich into New Zealand. You could end up in the Guiness Book of World Records for the most expensive sandwich.

If you fail to declare biosecurity risk goods, you may be fined up to $100,000, may face up to 5 years in prison, or may receive an instant $400 fine.

  13. I'm curious - if I decided to wear my dinner jacket to the MDR on a casual night, would I be turned away? If I wore a suit and tie, would the Maitre'd take my jacket and cut off my tie? Do they really enforce the "casual dress" code???

We like to dress for dinner every night. We have never felt over dressed or had any comments. On our last Prinsedam cruise a group of ladies came into the dining room every night wearing long gowns and full sparkly jewellery. They looked wonderful, and were obviously enjoying their cruise.
