  1. Now some of you know I have an addiction, or is it an affliction to flow ride. For those who didn't know, you do now. Well anyhow I got an email from a fellow rider with a link to an eBay item for sale.

I may have convinced Lisa to go on this cruise, but there is no way I'd win her over on this purchase. Now that being said Christmas is 4 months today and Owen could really use a gift like this. [emoji3]

May not ship to Canada??? Probably doesn't include the water, anyways . . .

  2. So let's give everyone a little background on this trip.

We actually booked this cruise in April 2015 onboard Oasis while waiting for our cabin to open. So it was around 18 months ago. I really wasn't paying attention when we booked the western itinerary and I just figured it would be Labadie, Falmouth, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

Looking forward to following along! We're boarding next Sunday when you finish up and are doing the first itinerary you posted above.

Having you perspective and comments this week with a number of common ports will be helpful and enjoyable for sure!

Maybe you stay on another week and get that cabana?

  3. The room showed up this morning! 12539 which is they very very forward most room on the right side on Deck 12. I'm reading that this is an L category and is a "Large Interior Stateroom."

    Sounds good to us!

You have the right attitude and deck 12 is a great central location.

If you're inclined, there are websites that will show you all available cabins (can't mention here) within a given category as you can move to any other open cabin within the exact category you've been assigned.

Another option if you wish would be to call the RC Crown and Anchor number (rather than the main RC number although you could) and ask for assistance as to what other options are available within the same category that might be worth considering. Many of the C&A agents we've encountered have been extremely helpful. Not every time, but certainly the majority.

Sounds to me like you'll enjoy your cruise no matter what and at the end of the day for the most part, the cabin is just where you'll sleep & change.

All the best on your cruise!

  4. Last week I booked a 2 Bedroom Aquatheater Suite on Allure for next May. I booked directly with Royal Caribbean. I just got a call saying they had accidentally double booked that room and they want to downgrade me to a Royal Family Suite. I'd be paying the lower rate and get to keep the Star Class Perks for the trouble. Is this common? My family was pretty psych'd about the ATS and this will be a huge letdown. I told the rep I'd call them back about what I want to do. Any advice?

If it's a once in a lifetime cruise with friends/family that can't again be duplicated, that's one scenario. If you can consider another time without regrets, that's another.

Considering the second option, the costs on your particular week might help decide. Pretty serious bennies for Star over Sky.

We have the Royal Family Suite booked on Oasis next April - would love a 2 bedroom Aquatheater, but it's a ton more money. Not fair for me to look from the bottom up, but to get the Star perks for a Sky priced cabin I'm not sure this isn't a pretty decent offer if you cost it out and could do the Aquatheater another time.

Let us know what you decide!

  5. As do some others, we typically bring a stack of ones and share with no expectations, but the times we've forgotten and have requested change for ones at either the casino or guest services, you'd have thought we were asking the rep to give us money out of their pocket.

Wouldn't have thought a thing about it had it not happened a couple of times both on Celebrity and RC when we forgot our initial stack. Didn't matter whether guest services or the casino, when it was time to get more ones, my wife and I would draw straws and laugh about who would have to go next to get change as (in many cases) they seemed annoyed to give out more than two ones at a time and we didn't have anything smaller than a five (which we were told numerous times was the limit). :)

p.s. If there have been past instances of people nefariously collecting all of the ones on the ship for personal use after the cruise and subsequently causing problems for guest services and the casino cashiers, I apologize and rescind the smiley face above.

  6. There are some things that no amount of money are going to fix, or,

. . . could be that decimal point placement. Last year a sales rep onboard (not sure ship or date) when asked the price of a Tag Heuer watch my wife was looking at punched a bunch of numbers in his calculator and in broken english said, $280 - I immediately rejoiced and screamed, we'll take it!

Soon thereafter before ringing up the sale, the decimal point moved just a smidge to the right.

    :)

    p.s. No - we didn't.

  7. We are not fussy eaters, like to relax by day at sea, explore ports and have few drinks by night ideally listening to a musician playing. Will take in a show but not be all and end all for us.

Just wondering if theres anything positive or negative people who have sailed the Celebrity solstice class could share from a royal comparison?

    Thanks.

If our adult kids and/or grandkids are with us, RC for sure. For my wife and I (mid 50s) the two Solstice class sailings we've done (14 day Southern Caribbean and 7 day Alaska), we LOVED them both. Based on the criteria you're looking for, my guess is at the end of this 11 day sailing is that it will be one of your favorites and you'll want to be planning another.

  8. HI All

We are first time cruisers with RCI and have booked 14330 for Sep this year - now after reading this thread I am concerned as my DH is 6'3. Soooo I rang RCI and they told me there are no height restrictions.....and also told me I can't change to a CLS as that is a downgrade (even though its more expensive!) and I would have to cancel my booking and rebook (therefore loosing my deposit!!!!). Now i'm really confused and don't know what to do!!

Any help or suggestions much appreciated! :)

Personal thoughts are the height issue is in the bathtub/shower only. Video of 11730 from our Oasis sailing may help

as is does reference the topic.

For what it's worth, we've sailed on Disney since and their bathtub height is no different.

Having said that, the CLS has two bathrooms and if you go for 14330, there is only one bathroom and you have to go thru the bedroom to get to it.

    Either choice will be amazing!

  9. Was it you who tried to book CK before you sailed (which can't be done by anyone as far as I'm aware). Did you actually go along to CK whilst you were onboard and got turned away as I would have gone straight to GS or spoken to the Concierge at that point.

You say you found out once you got back, so I'm a bit confused

If it was a Junior Suite - there is some inconsistency regarding Coastal Kitchen.

  10. To this day, I'm still unsure whats the benefits for booking a Concierge class. The canapes are terrible. The room size is the same as the balcony. I'm guessing the extra points? I was told you could also use the concierge host to make bookings of sorts while on land? But I still don't see the need.. book a restaurant? car? I don't get it. Can someone enlightened me. We've had CC a couple times only because it was the same price as a regular veranda and it gives more points.

    You answered your own question.

We booked concierge on our Alaska cruise (as a guarantee) next month because our options to save money were to book a regular verandah guarantee (but with an obstructed view possibility). Should we want to select and choose a specific regular verandah cabin, the price was exactly the same as the concierge and were pretty sure we'd have been o.k. with any of the concierge choices. Didn't want to roll the dice to save a few bucks and spend a week in Alaska with a cabin we would regret.

Other lines charge a premium for higher decks and mid ship locations, so not a surprise to us.

Worked out well for us as we were quickly assigned a C2 (which was great) and moved to an even more perfect location for us. None of the other concierge things really matter to us, but we'll be grateful for them - terrible canapes & all.

  11. Even as fast as we pulled out of Falmouth on Oasis this past September . . . ride was smooth as silk. Enjoy the sailaway tomorrow if the captain steps on the gas!

Really enjoying these past couple of weeks and looking forward to more! Thanks for the encouragement to finally figure out and use Periscope and so much appreciate as do many, all you're doing for the community.

  12. Hi, We are booked on Allure of the Seas with a June sail date. Currently we have a Crown Loft Suite, but I was wondering if the AquaTheater Suites (11330) are better for 4 people. It says they have 2 pullman beds but I can't tell where they are in the picture and I heard there is a low ceiling. My husband is 6'3. Is it a nice suite? It's actually cheaper than the crown loft and I'm not sure why. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any pictures would be awesome. Thanks :)

Although we haven't stayed in a crown loft (yet), we were in 11730 on the Oasis this past September. Here's a video posted earlier in this thread that might help,

We loved the suite and the balcony was the deal for sure, but I feel this cabin is better suited for either 2 or those with small children if more than 2. The only bathroom is in the bedroom portion of the suite. Seems the 2nd bathroom in the CL would be a benefit for 4. As for 11730, pretty sure the couch folds out for the extra beds.

Ceiling height in the tub for these added cabins has come up on several threads and at 5'9" I was definitely close to the ceiling, but noticed on our Disney Dream sailing in January (now that I'm paying attention), the ceiling in their tub area was no different. YMMV.

    Enjoy your trip!!!

  13. We did one on Liberty a while back (4 day) and thought it was great for the price - much preferred having some type of view available with a morning coffee or evening nightcap and easy to pull the curtains when we didn't want people to see us hanging upside down and swinging on the sprinklers.

Independence has some great rates for an upcoming 4 day sailing the end of March that my wife and I were going to book a balcony and recognized we could take our 4 & 5 y.o. granddaughters (best behaved and most fun kids on the planet) in connecting deck 7 promenades for the same price. Good total space, two bathrooms, kids get their own beds - seemed to us to be an amazing score.

Even more beneficial in my mind is if the 4 of us had stayed in a single interior - the savings would have been but pennies.

    Now for a 7 day or longer cruise . . .
