There are 2 doorways leading to the outdoor promenade or running track that we plan on using out of the ice rink.  I couldn't go down or back up those stairs anyway with my  wheelchair so we'll exclusively use those doors to get in and out.  Then back into the indoor promenade.  I also think they will eventually have to remove the sports bar, don't know where they'll move it but it probably has to go.

Hope the designers are seriously studying this problem whilst Star is being built!!!!!

    Thanks, @BecciBoo

Most of Royal's ships seem to be pretty accessible -- until this one!  DH uses a scooter on cruises -- most ships are just too big for him to comfortably walk around.  And he may attempt a step here and there.  Is there an elevator from anywhere to directly take him to the ice rink? Are there handicap seats there?  I usually sit in one; he can stay on the scooter if necessary, but prefers to sit in one of the armchairs.  Seeing the shows is a big part of cruising for us; we'd hate to miss anything because of his mobility issues.

One more question, is there a way to get to a "pod" in the Aquadome other than more stairs?

  2. Thank you, @cruisinghawg, for all your videos!

I've only been to Havensite once and downtown Charlotte Amalie twice.  Since we sail mostly big ships, we hope Crown Bay gets a little more action and shops.  To us, not much there now, but at least it's somewhere DH can take his scooter to!  He appreciates being able to get off the ship.  We were on Apex in 2022.  But it tendered in a couple of places, so...  She's a beautiful ship, and I highly recommend sailing on X, at least once!  Very different demographics than Royal, and I don't just mean the lack of kids!

Sorry folks for being away for the past 24 hours but had some terrible news that we had to deal with. One of my best friends had a stroke while on board and had to be offloaded to hospital on St Kitts. So we have been tied up with helping all that we could. So I am back now and will download more video later this morning.

How awful!  Hope your friend has a quick and complete recovery.

  4. Thank you, @Ozark_Kid and your wife, for taking time to measure the distances from the floor, etc., of the chiller in the OVB accessible cabin. Still kind of low for us, but if we can sail on Icon, we’ll figure it out!

Gotta get with a TA to check on prices.  Right now doing a dummy booking for next spring on the website, is just too, too much. Maybe by 2026, after Star has started sailing.   This ship looks so amazing!

We were on the Quantum inaugural from New Jersey in 2014, too. Very underwhelming!  But, we do love Anthem. Time to sail on her again!  It’s been a few years!

  5. Finally caught up!  Hoping to sail on this ship—eventually!  Maybe next year.

Thank you for the OVB accessible cabin video and photos. My husband uses a rental scooter (from Special Needs at Sea) to get around the ship, but not in the cabin. Is the fridge really as low as shown in the video?  We both have balance issues, so bending over that far to access water, etc., is not going to work for us. Maybe a medical fridge would be placed on the vanity/desk?

I may have to bring my “grabby” stick!

Y’all have fun!  Have a Caribbean Mule or Margarita for me!

  6. We were on a B2B on Wonder this past April. We probably visited the then-DL each night after early dining. Plenty of seating then!  But not very friendly fellow cruisers. Just because we get there first, and there’s plenty of space, we don’t mind if you want to sit with us!

But I do prefer the Lounge on Anthem. Missed the windows on Wonder. The virtual outside screens were just not the same!

Looking forward to next Spring on Wonder, and to see what has changed in the Crown Lounge.

  7. Since there are current posts on your thread, I can now add my thanks for taking us along!  I really enjoyed your posts, and now an EB TA is now on my list of cruises to research. Would prefer Oasis class, tho!  I get seasick, so I read that the Southern route is better.

As far as great minds think alike…we were in 6632 for a week (our first week was in 9172) in April 2023. We’ll be 6632 for both weeks in 2024.  You can tell we really enjoyed our time on Wonder. Can’t wait to be onboard her again. Next time you go to Cantina Fresca, try the hand-crafted margarita. It was definitely my favorite. But your list has given me lots of new drinks to try!  Although five drinks a day (we’re D+) is hard for us to get through. 😉. But we’ll keep trying!

Thank you again for the enjoyable, educational trip.

  8. Finally finished! What great review, with great photos. Everything was so informative!  My husband has mobility issues, and rents a scooter for our cruises. He was sure you wouldn’t be able to do anything in Alaska. Glad you’ve proved him wrong. We did our Alaska cruise in 2006, and had to tender quite a bit; happy to read you did not.

Off to read your Wonder TA. We were on Wonder in April, our first time in an HA cabin.  Enjoyed it so much we’re booked for a B2B in 2024!

    Thank you again!

  9. Good to see you back, @harryfat1!  I’ve always enjoyed your trip reports. I think you had posted photos from a ship’s Windjammer of mislabeled jello. Whenever we’re on a cruise, and in the WJ, I think of you when I see the jello!

I think I’m pretty OCD, but only at a 7.9-8.75. I do print off all paperwork and bring it with me!  Keep the app version of our setsail passes in my iPhone wallet, too.

    Looking forward to following along!

  10. We’re not cruising until late April 2024. Our passports expire in December 2023. Planning on early December just to make sure they’re back in time.

Our friend, who works for a government agency closely tied with DOS, said they’re are very backed up now that people are traveling again. Meanwhile he and his wife are still waiting for theirs.

  11. @derorim Sorry to hear about your knee -- hope it's better by the time you leave the ship.

Having mobilitity issues on a cruise is no fun.  Make sure you get wheelchair assistance off the ship and in the airport!  DH has spinal stenosis and tried just using his cane on Harmony last year, and it was not good.  He rented a scooter from Special Needs at Sea on Oasis in the summer, and it made all the difference in the world.  Fortunately, we had a lucky cabin (7266) that had the bed by the balcony, so had room to charge the scooter overnight.  Next month, we have an HC cabin, just so we don't have to worry about the size (or try to figure out bed placement by cabin numbers).

@John&LaLa  Sorry you have to cancel your Odyssey cruise.  Feel better soon!

Thank you all for lettting me tag along on your cruise!  It's been a fun week!

Just tell him that Disney World trip can be done any time but Bella 2.0 is once in a lifetime.  Easy decision, just sayin.....

We know that, but we haven't been in almost 10 years, and two of our daughters (middle and youngest) have planned this adults-only trip for us.  We've been to see the Holiday lights many times, but they really want to do it, so...  We're in our 70; how many more trips do we get to take with our kids???  The youngest one went on our 50th anniversary cruise last summer (along with our eldest daughter and her family), so after taking her boys to WDW this past summer, the middle one really wants this adults-only trip.

And we'll be on Wonder for a B2B next month, so...   I'll just follow along here!
