  1. Enjoying your musings on a week aboard Equinox.  That has been our only Celebrity cruise until (and fingers crossed) April when we sail on Apex.  Same exact itinerary as Equinox, but we like to experience different classes of ships.

I made notes on Equinox (first time I've done so), and I also wondered about the plot of Topper.  I also noted that there was another production show on Day 4, but no title or anything else.  It must not have been memorable.

Looking forward to reading about the rest of your cruise!

  2. Have no knowledge of what is done on Royal for Christmas (other than decor) for kids, I’ve sailed on Easter and there was an Easter Bunny with goodie bags for the kids. That was a while ago, so things have probably changed.

But we have cruised Princess, and their “regular” balcony cabins were smaller than those on Royal. We only had a chair in the cabin on Princess, as opposed to a loveseat or sofa on Royal.  Plus the buffet area has a much better layout on Royal.

Whichever you choose, the kids will enjoy a Royal cruise.

  3. Thank you for sharing your cruise with us.  We don't board Apex until next April in Fort Lauderdale, so hopefully all the kinks will be worked out by then (and COVID-19 just an unhappy memory).

Hope you'll be able to post some photos of the ship at some point -- don't really care of what, just some public areas.

Thank you again, and Happy Sailing!

  4. That is just so sad.

Had to fly to FLL day of cruise once, it was unavoidable, but I can tell you, I held my breath until we landed in FLL.  It was nice, however, going straight to our cabin once we arrived at the ship.  We always fly direct, no matter our destination.

We usually drive to Cape Liberty, NJ (from northern Virginia) day before as well.  You never know what the traffic will be like.

  5. Our last Princess cruise was on Ruby Princess in 2010.  We had sailed on Sapphire (2006) and Crown (2007) before that.  Maybe it was just the crew on the Ruby, but I vowed never to sail on Princess again.  The servers were rushed in the MDR (we had anytime dining).  I really missed the MDR servers on Royal.  It was just not a good experience.  Their balcony cabins have just the desk chair, if you didn't want to sit on the bed.  You need to move up to a mini-suite to get a sofa in your cabin.  The Horizon Court (their buffet) is so small -- no more than than 25 people could fit in there at a time -- long waits for food.  I much prefer the set ups on Royal and Celebrity.  I don't remember much about the food.  Except the Crown had fabulous pizza!

Of course, now DH wants to sail on one of the new ships for their longer itineraries.  He's my banker, so I go where he goes 😉

We sailed on Celebrity Equinox in 2018.  It was very nice.  So nice that our next cruise is on Apex.  I do remember that we really enjoyed our dinners in the MDR -- food and service!

  6. We went ahead and purchased an internet package for our April 2022 cruise.  I can't remember what the regular price was, but I'm thinking it was a little more.  I'll keep an eye out for future sales to compare.

It was a price we were comfortable with, so...  Just hoping there'd be a glitch with the drink package.  That really hurt when our 2020 sailing was cancelled!

  7. Thank you all for your responses.  I'll pass them along to my daughter.  I'm sure they and the 17-yo will want to be connected all the time.  My daughter runs a business, so she'll want to be connected, too.  I'll let them know that the price is per device, not per person!

I'll warn her to make sure they turn on airplane mode only!

  8. My daughter and her family will be going on their first cruise in July 2022 on Oasis.  They have a 17-year old son (and a six-year old; he's not counted in this).  They all want to have the internet on their phones -- two Androids and one iPhone.  For them each to get an individual package is almost $1000.  Can they share the three-device package, with it being charged to just one adult, all using the same ID and P/W?  I think my husband I have shared the two-device package in the past, but it's been a while.  It's hard for me to get a true price for them, using my log in, since we'll be D+ by then (we're going, too).

How about the Royal IQ app?  Can you still purchase a messaging piece for one price?  I know we'll all need that!

    Thanks for your help!

  9. I had been seasick on a ferry one year, as well as airsick, so I asked my doctor for recommendations before my first cruise -- he had been on a cruise right before.  He suggested I take Bonine at bedtime, beginning the night before the cruise (and flight into a certain airport).  It wouldn't interfere with any of my other medications and I could also drink.  I had taken regular Dramamine and non-drowsy Dramamine before, and each knocked me out.  Maybe those would be okay at bedtime, too, but I'm not willing to try!  I'm not very sleepy during the day after taking a Bonine (or the generic) the night before, but don't give me a drink during a sea day!  I'll really nod off then! 😉

It's been years since I've had sea legs when returning home, but Bonine helps then, too.

  10. We've sailed three times on Princess (relative newbie) and only once on X (definitely a newbie).  The Princess mini-suite is basically the same as a regular cabin on X or Royal (most of our cruises have been Royal).  A "regular" balcony cabin on Princess just have a chair and no love seat or sofa.  I believe the newer ships have larger balcony cabins, but we haven't cruised on Princess since 2010 (on Ruby Princess).  Plus...(and this was my deal breaker) their buffet is tiny!  One little area, so standing in line to get breakfast and/or lunch was the norm.  I much prefer the buffet set ups on X and Royal.

However, we saw a lot of great shows on our Princess cruises -- lots of magicians and hypnotists; not as many production shows.  And they had really good pizza and my favorite drink, Beverly Hills Ice Tea.

  11. Happy New Year to All!  Hoping we'll get back to "normal" this summer, and start traveling again.  DH retired on May 1, 2020, and had two cruises booked and canceled.  We had a number of other trips canceled, too.  As I'm sure everyone did!

Fingers crossed we'll be sailing out of Port Everglades on X Apex on April 16, 2022, returning on April 23 and driving to Port Canaveral to board Harmony of the Seas on April 24, 2022.  We thought we might do some laundry on that Saturday.  We haven't decided on a place to stay the night of April 23, 2022, and would like to see if anyone knows of any decent laundromats in the area.

We were supposed to do Apex and Symphony this April/May, but decided to do the lift and shift before final payment this month.

    Thank you for your help!

  12. I just bought some fabric with anchors.  Plan on making enough to last the cruise (and the one we're on before the Royal cruise).  Plus I have more masks that I've made (and get washed after being worn) to take with me.  Will probably need another box of disposables, too (DH wears those).

I'll probably buy a "branded" mask, too.  I wear RCL tee-shirts, why not a mask?
