  1. I have used my scooter on both Princess and Disney... my scooter fits through the door on both.... it needs 21" and both doors are 22". I do take the arm rests off just so they don't rub on the door. We stayed in balcony rooms . You should be fine. The cabin with 4 might be crowded with a scooter in the room... but you should be fine!

Thanks! That helps put my mind at ease. I read someone's story that they rented scooters and they did NOT fit in the room and had to be left in the hallway and that spooked me! Yeah, I know the 4 in a cabin is going to be tight, but can't be helped and we are paying so little for the third and fourth people that we couldn't afford to get a second room. But we'll survive. Hey, it's a cruise!

  2. Hi,

I'm thinking we're good with this as Special Needs at Sea says the scooter needs 21" clearance, and Carnival sent me info saying standard cabins are (apx)22" wide.

Has anyone rented the heavy duty scooter from Special Needs at Sea and used it with a standard cabin?

We have two cabins who now need mobility scooters who didn't when we booked originally. That plus one cabin has 4 people and don't see any accessible cabins for 4. Plus we are Easy Saver, so no changes without big penalties. :(

So if anyone has successfully used the Heavy Duty scooter in a standard room I'd be grateful if you would reply. Thanks!

  3. While Carnival doesn't officially assign cabanas before embark, it's possible they might make an exception in a case where you have a medical need for the one and only accessible cabana. Couldn't hurt to email shoreexcursions@carnival.com and ask. Be sure to tell them your booking number and that you've already got a cabana reserved, and explain the need for rolling access.

Thank you for the email addy to inquire about the cabana. I have sent them an email and we will see what happens. Thanks again.

  4. We went down to Jack's. About 1/2 way to Jack's is where we saw the sign for the $3 beers, and were offered the beer/chicken wings combo.

Loungers at Jack's were free, $10 for an umbrella. Again, INCREDIBLE jerk chicken.

We were the first ship to dock (Carnival Magic) with Glory docking a couple hours later. A few more people at Jack's , but nothing like the zoo at Marguaritaville. Drag your lounger 100 feet away from Jack's and have the beach to yourself!

Thanks for the suggestion, however we have two people on mobility scooters and two with rollavators so that is impractical for us.

  5. As someone remarked on another site: "Bring your AMEX card and a back up!"

I've heard stories of $24 for nachos and drinks running $8-$10. Beer is probably $5-$6. About a $1 higher than other places along the beach strip. There's a 26% tax and service charge on final bill.

If there are a lot of people around service is very slow. They do offer an AI type package on their FB page. You can check that out.

I thought the AI ($50 unlimited drinks and one entree) was a test and they had discontinued it. I will check the facebook page and see if there is anything about it.

  6. They do have vehicles to drive you to the cabanas and also to the buffet lunch area. However' date=' they do have big steps up, maybe they have alternative vehicles for the handicapped. I suggest you ask the folks at the shore excursion desk.[/quote']

Thanks for the tip! That will be helpful if we are not able to get the handicapped cabana. My people could walk a short distance on sand and managed some steps, so that could work. Thanks again!

  7. I don't know about Carnival, but with HAL you can pre-book the cabanas. It's in the excursions area of the website. If the color/number isn't there then it's probably already booked. Or you can call the cruise line and check with them. I would not wait until you are on the cruise. I booked our cabana for a December cruise in September and most of them were already gone.

Unless it has changed, that is not possible. On the website you can reserve A cabana, but not the specific one. You have to go to the excursions desk to pick which one you want. I will double check if it has changed. Our cruise is in April and we have had the cabana booked for months and there was no choosing which one at that time.

  8. Thank you CruiserBruce! Exactly what I wanted to know. The two in our party will have rented scooters on board the ship, but this being the tender port we wanted to be sure it was feasable. They are capable of walking distances that are not too far, and would certainly make the effort to be able to experience such a beautiful place. I plan on being one of the first in line at the excursion desk to get cabana #1 because it is paved all the way. I suppose if we don't get that one plan B would be to borrow the sand wheelchair and take them in turns. Trying to have it all planned out complete with plans B and C etc., to make it the easiest I can for us.

  9. We were on the Pride twice this summer with stops at HMC. Both times it was on the tendering information sheet that mobility scooters were not allowed; you had to be using a collapsible wheelchair and you have to be able to take a couple of steps.

My mother is a full time wheelchair user and is not comfortable taking steps without support so she did not attempt to tender.

When did you get this tendering information?

  10. From Carnival Guest Access:

We received a reply from Guest Services on board the Pride to advise that they will accommodate your request regarding a night stand to be removed and the beds pushed together against the French doors.

We look forward to providing you a FUN and memorable cruise vacation. See you on board!

So it IS possible to do this. I will try and remember to come back after the cruise and advise how the scooter fit with the night stand moved

  11. That is very helpful. We will be on a Carnival ship so sounds like it WILL be the roll on/off tender. Now if the weather will cooperate! This info really helps. When we booked there was going to be one of our party on a scooter, but now my husband is going to need one as well. We were going to bring a collapsible wheelchair to assist the one person get to the cabana, but with the addition of my husband needing a scooter as well we had to really think about how we are going to get everyone ashore. I suppose if they say no scooters we can take one ashore with the wheelchair (they can both walk somewhat and do a few stairs) then go back for the other. Well, that's the thought, anyway!

  12. I know the basic set up. I have heard that if the big tenders are used, with the ramps, that it "MAY" be possible to take a mobility scooter on board. At what point, and how do you find out, IF in fact that is possible? Do they make an announcement? Do you call someone? Just how do you find out without going all the way to the tender and being turned away?

  13. We've been on the Pride 4 times and will sail on her again in 2017. I have Pride GoGo Elite traveler Plus, and have taken it on three cruises, and each time in a standard balcony cabin. This probably won't help much, but here is how I do it (also, only me and DH in cabin).

My scooter fits through the 21" cabin door. DH opens door, I drive in and now the desk is to my left, and the sofa, table and chair are to my right, the bed (1) is straight ahead. We push the table and turn it horizontal against the chair. Now I have space to continue in toward the bottom left of the bed. I lower scooter speed, move forward and backward slowly, turn the scooter around, and now I'm facing the door, and I park beside the front of the sofa, in front of the horizontal table, which leaves me about 18" behind the scooter to fit myself on the sofa. There is room between the desk and chair, table, scooter to get by easily enough that I can pull the little stool out and fix hair, or apply make-up, etc. I believe we removed the arms of my scooter too. If we order room service, I just back the scooter up a little bit, move the table away from the chair, and DH can use the chair and table, and I can use the sofa and table, or just go out on balcony with our coffee, etc.

This is confusing I'm sure, but it gives you an idea of how I maneuver. I do think it will be difficult for you though. But, just ask the steward to remove some things and I think although it will be tight, just figure you're all not in the cabin that much or at one time. Have a fun cruise!!!

Thank you for the tips! I'm sure it will all work out. Lots of people rent them and have no problems. I just called to see how far in advance to book and he said at least a month, but I won't chance leaving it that late. We sail in April and I think we'll book it in December. Looking at the Carnival page on mobility issues is states in one place the doorway is 21" and in the next paragraph it says 22"! I called and they said basically the doorway is 22" and the scooter can't be any larger than 21" and the scooter site says they are 21" so that makes more sense. I wish they would clarify on the website though. Still no reply from them.

  14. My mistake as to the number of night stands with the twin configuration. I obviously didn't remember correctly from photos I've seen (never been in a twin). But that proves they CAN at least move them. Maybe have it moved to the foot of the bed then push the bed over if they can't remove it? Haven't heard from Carnival care yet.

We would be renting from one of the approved companies, so I am sure that they know which scooter fits in the stateroom doors of the Pride.

  15. If there is a coffee table in the room have them take that out. I don't know about the night stands. The lamps are screwed to them so there may be a problem. I'm not sure what else you could do. Make sure you stow your luggage under the beds. That will give some room. Make sure you sleep in the bed closest to the bathroom so you don't stumble into the

It was only that it seemed to me that when they do a twin bed configuration that they have only one night stand in the room, between the beds, as opposed to the two - one on each side - with a king bed. The Pride cabins we've been in have only 12" round tables in front of the sofa, and we will ask that be removed. Since I asked this question, I contacted the "Carnival Care" department so I should have a definitive answer and will post it here.
