Normally the additional fare has been $40/day/pp. This includes the $14.50 to $16.50/day/pp gratuity that you would pay anyway. Net additional charge is around $25/pp/day. Assuming you would use some sort of wi-fi that charge could range if purchased separately from $5/pp/day to $10/pp/day. Therefore the additional charge for beverages is around $20/pp/day.

Two alcoholic beverages a day you break even and you also receive the benefit of unlimited specialty coffee drinks and other non-alcoholic beverages. If you drink at all it would be difficult not to break even.

On board you order whatever beverage you enjoy. Any beverage menu priced $12 and under is covered. This is about 90 to 95% of all beverages sold. If a drink is menu priced higher than $12 you will be charged the difference plus 18% of the difference. Beverages must be ordered one at a time.

There are no special lines, locations, times, selections for the beverage package. Order any where on the ship. Anything on the menus anytime of day is included within the generous terms and conditions. There is no additional per drink gratuity added. Alcoholic beverages are limited to 15/pp/day, 6am to 6am.

Thank you for the thoughtful response, Thrak.  I am very put off by the adverse events that seem to follow carnival.    Loud drunken foul language and fistfights are concerning.   People do seem to go overboard at at alarming rate on Carnival.   And yes, that type of drama gets media attention but I just  don't see it at that caliber on the other cruise ships esp. Princess.

I do plan to be in my cabin at 9:00 pm or earlier and stay away from dancing and partying due to increased chances of catching Covid when people are yelling and working out.

I was also just reading about vaccination waivers for children under 12.  There will be lots of children compared to Princess.    I did not see anybody under the age of 12 on Princess.

The lack of masks on the Ruby towards the end of the cruise was worrisome and I expect the same on Carnival.

I'll ask my oncologist's opinion tomorrow.   I'm dealing with cancer so covid could be more serious for me.

I am a Carnival "fan", but I also love Princess and had a great trip on the Emerald Princess; however, my husband and I now have Covid even though we were pretty consistent with our masks.  Too many places (like the MDR) where you can't wear a mask lead to the possibility of exposure.  Not really my business, but if Covid is a big concern for you, now is probably not the time to cruise.  I think the lack of the ship-wide mask mandate has changed the dynamics.

Having said that, no matter which ship we are on, we try to find out-of-the-way places to relax outside or just spend a lot of time in our stateroom.  It is virtually impossible to avoid crowds in the eating venues though unless you just have room service (even the steak house was crowded on the Emerald).  We have found both of these true on Carnival and Princess.

P.S. In 25 Carnival cruises, I have never seen a fist fight.  I have heard f bombs and other cursing on both lines.  Also on the Emerald, I experienced a very literal threat (to another person) when the threatening person was told the elevator was full, but pushed his way on anyway.  I couldn't get off that elevator fast enough.

That was our experience also. In fact we had hell trying to get verification that we had a 25% OBC on a future cruise. No one with Carnival ever mentioned it to us before, on or after our 25th cruise. I saw something about it on the internet. Calling Carnival just got "never heard of it." Luckily we had a PVP that we had used before and at least he had heard of the program. He was kind enough to find the right people in Carnival, who sent a "certificate number" to each of us. Later, when we booked the cruise we wanted to take the OBC on we booked it through our PVP and he had the OBC set-up (but it doesn't appear until just before the cruise in case you cancel). But there for a while we felt like we were in the twilight zone.

    Exactly the way we feel/felt...

I have a tab but when I click on it, the new screen says the offer expired. Has been like that for a week or so. I guess I missed it when it first posted. I wish they could remove it because, of course, I now keep clicking it hoping for a different outcome. I guess I am fulfilling Einstein's definition of insanity.

Mine did that too, and then an offer did appear and I discovered if you click around (I don't remember exactly how I did it), you may be able to get other rooms than offered  I was offered a balcony on 6 and ended up with a balcony on 9, much better to my liking.

Every room has benefits.  Been in them all from inside to suites.  Just depends on our mood and length of the cruise for the most part.

If we are doing a short cruise an inside is fine - and we love the dark cave for sleeping and napping mid-day.  Also choose these if we are doing what we call our "down and dirty" trips where it is usually a last minute, get away as cheap as we can trip.

If we are doing longer cruises, we like to have at least an OV so we can have a couch for sitting on throughout the cruise (always sitting/laying in bad starts to bother the back after a few days).

If we are in a splurging mode, we will go Suite - I love having a jacuzzi tub to soak in.

Our favorite room though I think is the 6K Grand Scenic Ocean Views.  Great price for a Great room with a Great view.

We were fortunate enough to get one of those on our last Carnival cruise.  Loved it!

On our first cruise we booked an outside cabin. About a month before departure (after payment) the prices for balconies dropped to match what I paid for the outside cabin ("for new bookings ONLY"). I called my PVP and asked if she could do anything for me. She put me on hold for about 15 minutes and got back and announced she had upgraded us to a balcony cabin.

I'm a big fan of Princess Vacation Planner staff.

I had basically the same scenario on my booked cruise and my PVP said he was unable to change it, because it said new bookings only.  I guess it is all dependent on your PVP.  Frustrating!

  7. I had basically the same thing happen.  My original PVP had left Princess and the new one I was "assigned" said there was nothing he could do since it was after final payment and basically acted like I was stupid for asking.  So frustrating!  Is there a way to get assigned another new PVP or CVP (whichever is correct)?  Thanks.

  8. We were never notified, but I logged into my account, clicked on My Account on the top menu bar, and clicked on Upcoming Cruises from the drop down menu. My cruise showed up and I clicked on Manage This Booking, then I clicked on Payments on the upper right, and finally I clicked on Booking Balance and my Onboard Credit showed there.  I scrolled down and saw a break down of my OBC and Shareholders Benefits was there.

There is probably an easier way to see it, but this worked for me.

  9. Have you looked on your account?  Log-in and choose My Account.  Click Future Cruise Credit and under Future Cruise Credits, choose View Details.  Mine shows book by 12/31/2022 and sail by 12/31/2022.

Apologies if you already knew this.

Oh, wait, did you say Royal?  I was referring to Princess.

Yes, it has been "drop and go" but not in writing.  Signs on closed doors did not mention Platinum/Diamond/Suite guests so people questioned the ability to go through the doors.

This is what my November 20 email for my November 28 cruise said:

STATEROOM ACCESS – Due to enhanced cleaning and sanitation, staterooms may not be ready at the time of boarding for the early Arrival Appointments.   If you have not checked your bags, feel free to quickly drop off your luggage while our crew puts the finishing touches on your stateroom.  This will allow you to complete your e-mustering process and start your vacation promptly.

I was surprised to read on the op's that the stateroom would be ready.
