Love a road trip to a cruise!! We're flying for the first time in quite a while in a couple of weeks. Seeing your road trip makes me a little jealous 😉. Looking forward to the rest of your review!

Oh please post back in here when you're on board and they've "found" you! I'd love to hear how it went!!
this is such a fun idea! 🙂I definitely will. I'm going to have my son video it. BTW, I'm not talking about little kids, the grandkids are teenagers. One asked to go on a cruise with us for his birthday. We are beyond excited.

So, I mentioned your plan to my wife and she thought it’s an awesome idea you have. Then she brought up that when you go up the escalators to board, it’s possible that the general boarding area may see people? We honestly don’t know if that’s true, because we never really paid attention. But just in case, I’d have your family looking the other way when you are walking to board.
We'll make sure DS has them distracted.

Or show up after they have boarded...
We have 10:30 arriving time. The port shuttle from our hotel only has 2 runs, 9:30 and 1:30. My son is driving down from Orlando and there seems to be a lot of construction along the way so he wants to get a super early start. The plan is to do a geo cashe for the kids to follow and we'll be the the "treasure". We'll be in constant contact with DS via texts.

If you really want to play it safe you could always show up in disguise!😁
Haha. I will be wearing a big floppy hat and sunglasses. I'm not so worried about them seeing me, it's the hubs that will probably give it away.

I don’t think it’s visible from general waiting. I think the risk of being seen is before you get to the waiting area. When you get to the port and initially enter the building, there is a priority line. But in that area, everyone can see everyone else. Then once you check in, you’ll take the escalator up to the priority waiting area and then you’ll be safe. So coordinate getting to that point so you don’t see your grandkids. Hope that makes sense.
It does make sense, thank you. I'm sure we'll be constantly texting with my son to try to coordinate things.

@Butterbean1000here is a photo from Saint Greg’s current sailing to show what I mean. I probably have done a poor job describing it. You’ll see platinum on the right.
Another silly question, how visible is this from the general waiting area? We are trying to not be seen.

Does anyone have a picture of the platinum area?

Neither of us are Platinum, actually the other couple have never cruised with Carnival, so I think this is available to anyone. It does not allow you to check in any earlier, just allows you to check in the other cabins. So you should check with your PVP if you could check them in the same time you do yours or not since you are Platinum. Carnival might block you from checking them in earlier. Someone else might have to log in the normal time and check the rest of the group in (but they could check everyone else in as long as they had their booking numbers and all the info to check them in such as passport numbers and stuff).
I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to but DS insisted I find out.

I was able to link in our friends by getting their Booking number and adding it to our information, then when I get ready to do our check in I can check in for both of our cabins. So you might want to check on it!
We're you both platinum or just you?

We have used Trip Advisor for many excursions in various ports. Just be mindful of the times of return to port. We always opt for very early start times with getting back to port a few hours before all aboard time. A lot of excursions guarantee timely return to port.

We're cruising with our son and his family. I'll be doing the platinum check in two days early. Our bookings are linked. He asked if I can check them in, too. I don't think so, but I told him I would check. Is this doable?

We haven't sailed out of Miami since turning platinum. Is there a separate waiting area? We will be sailing with my son and family and we are surprising the grandkids, they don't know we'll be sailing with them. We don't want them to see us before we board.

I really don't have a favorite entree. There are a couple desserts I like. Grand Mariner souffle and Bitter and Blanc. I get these every cruise.

I usually bring my own hair dryer, but we are flying this time and I'm trying to pack light. Does anyone know if the hairdryers on the Magic are the kind that you have to hold the button down for it to work?

It must have been so thrilling to be that close to these majestic animals. It almost seems like they were putting on a show for you.

Just want to comment on this:
We were on this ship Jan 2024. DH uses a cane, so in the buffet I become his butler (he sits; I get the food). More than once, while I was gone, a buffet staff member brought him stuff...coffee, soup etc.
I had similar experiences on the Magic. I was pre-op on a knee scooter. The staff in the buffet were very helpful carrying my plates and drinks.

The inch of gold seemed like a decent deal, until I priced out a 20-inch paperclip chain necklace. It was $7.99 an inch, so the whole thing was $160 which was ridiculous for a costume jewelry piece. I can get the same thing on Amazon for $29.99.
After seeing the gold by the inch on several cruises, I broke down and bought a bracelet and charm for my granddaughter. What a POS. I don't remember how much I paid, but what ever I paid, it was too much.

Off topic, I attended a couple of tapings of Family Feud last month. Steve Harvey is hilarious. I sure wouldn't want to be the person to do the editing for airing. Sorry to highjack your post.

People do this? It's never occurred to me, but it will going forward 😉

I suppose they don't price match on the ship.
They price match alcohol. I brought them a picture of rum from port that was a couple $s cheaper and the ship matched it.
