I'm so excited for you to sail and tell us all about her!

I have been planning this adventure since October of 2012. I can hardly wait.

One week from today, January 10th, The Getaway is officially a Norwegian ship. Current She still belongs to Meyer Werft. I will board Her on the 16th in Southampton, United Kingdom for Her journey to New York City.

I got my first ship pin in 2008 on The Spirit on my very first cruise ever. Two weeks from today I will be boarding The Getaway for my 19th cruise on Her Transatlantic crossing from Southampton, United Kingdom to New York City.

In light of some recent threads thrashing NCL I thought I would add a positive one today.

 

I was booked on the Star for a Baltic Cruise in May and am unable to go. So I called this am and wanted to switch my reservation to do another Alaska trip only this time on the Jewel. (I did the Pearl in Sept and chose the Jewel this time as it has more time in Victoria and might get to see something this time :D). I called and the agent on the phone was very helpful and made the change with no problems. She even helped me chose a decent cabin (I like inside ones as i travel alone) not above or below any noisy areas. She applied the money I had already paid for the Baltic one and even allowed me to add the $250 deposit i "bought" on my last cruise. (Combined they made a big dent in my total remaining.) I even got a nice little $25 OBC (I see a nice Italian dinner in my future:D).

 

Just thought a positive experience would be a nice change.

When are you doing your Alaskan cruise? Seattle is a wonderful city to explore. Downtown and the waterfront area will have a lot of construction. But there will still be plenty of things to see especially the Space Needle.

Thanks for the info. Not to split hairs but does that mean Sinan will be on vacation for our Jan. 19th Breakaway cruise? We've yet to sail with him while reading so many great things about him from all of you.

Sinan will left on the 19th. I am assuming that whoever he replaced will be returning.

 

Sinan has wanted to be a Vacation Relief for a t least a couple years. Just wants to try something different.

 

I have no idea what his plans are after the 19th.

Yes, Sinan is on the Breakaway but only for a couple more weeks a vacation relief.

Getaway has handled everything that has come her way. Handover is the 10th of January. then off She will go- Rotterdam, Southampton, New York City. Three weeks from today She (16 January) will sail from Southampton to NYC. I can not wait to be aboard Her on the 16th.

I would doubt that Carnival pulling out of NYC has much to do with Norwegian's popularity or not. I would guess that it has to do with their bottom line. With all the lawsuits pending, and their unexpected costs over the last couple of years something had to give. Does anyone know the approximate cost for a cruise ship to dock in NYC? I would bet that cost is also going up too.

I love fresh flowers in my cabin while I sail. But I have never sailed with NCL before.

Usually I wait till I am onboard and buy a few flowers at the formalities shop, is there someplace on the Sun to purchase a few flowers,or do I need to purchase them online before we sail?

On my last Sun cruise, I bought flowers from the Restaurant Reservation Desk in the Lobby from Guest Services.

Did you get a chance to talk with your Captain? Does he also have a father who is a Norwegian Captain?

Please try to add a couple of days either before or after your cruise. Seattle is a wonderful city to explore. During the summer of 2014 a lot of the waterfront area will be closed for a major construction project, but there is still lots to see and do. Just north of the Bell Street pier is the Seattle Space Needle left from the 1962 World's Fair. On a clear day, you can see a long way from the Observation Deck. There is a restaurant that revolves 360 degrees the lunch price is not bad, dinner is a different story. Have a great time.

Sinan is on The BA as vacation relief. I am not sure what his sign off date is but I think mid January.

How was the Pearl?

The Pearl is a wonderful ship with a great staff. If at all possible, please add a couple of days to either end of the cruise just to see Seattle.

Didn't she have a dry dock visit earlier this fall?

Yes, The Sky was in dry dock a couple of months ago.

Looking at the Tampa web cam. Is that the Dawn they are giving close ups of.

 

The ship webcam also shows them still in port.

 

It's 7pm and the Dawn should have left port at 4pm.

 

Anyone have any news on this?

Just heard from a friend on the Dawn. Tonight for some reason they are scheduled to sail at 7:45 P.M. They said that there were not any real issues with either disembarkation or embarkation.

It said Spirit in the title and I recognise a few of those names as being Spirit staff.

 

Orazio is being replaced by Armando Da Silva on 6th Jan as Hotel Director

 

Anybody know who the Captain is as Vanja has gone on leave now?

Vanja is on vacation. He will be back in mid February. The new Captain is Kim Karlsson formerly of The Jade.

41 Days until Her Grand Adventure from Southampton to New York City. It is almost time to leave for the U.K. and this Grand Adventure. I can not wait.

Hi Did Noel Chaves replace him on the Dawn?

Noel Chaves is the Restaurant Manager on the Jewel until early January.

He could be. There are a lot of changes occurring right now getting ready for The Getaway. One of my favorite entertainers is on The Gem. His name in Michael Blackwell. He plays piano without adding anything to it. Sometimes he is in the atrium and other times in Star Bar on Deck 13 across from Cagney's. Have a great cruise.

Julie is not on The Gem any more. She will be the opening Cruise Director for The Getaway. Dan The Man is the current CD on The Gem.
