  1. It seems like every post I read on the Carnival board expresses some level of dissatisfaction about the terrible food, the terrible service, the terrible entertainment, etc. So, is there still any point to taking a Carnival cruise anymore? How are they staying in business?

Sure if its enough of a discount over competitors. I just got off a 5 day on the Sensation.

    MDR food was ok

    Service was really slow though

Entertainment seemed to be enjoyed by most.

    Staff very friendly

It was well worth what I paid. That said my new favorite is NCL on the newer ships.

  2. How nice! Bringing a friend on a cruise and trying to trick them:eek: I wonder what you'd do if you didn't like the person??

Oh the horror. Friends what play jokes on each other.

  3. Whats the point of buying FTTF if you are not allowed to board until after 1?

If I wait until after 1 to board, my room would have been ready anyway (FTTF perk) and I would not have been able to board right after Platinums and such.

Other than the GS line and tendering, why bother if you lose half the benefits?

My folks bought it and are wondering why they cannot board until after 1, even though the bought FTTF.

I told them to go at 11 like they usually do and don t worry about it. Will they be turned away and made to wait until after 1 like their pass says?

  4. What exactly makes Guy's Burgers, in an apparent class by themselves?

    Brand fanaticism and hype.

If you like well done THIN burgers, you will like Guys. Some people like that though and they are quite popular.

Don't let my dislike of them prevent you from trying them out. IF the line is long, skip it but if you can grab one quick, go for it.

  5. Everyone keeps "talking" about the horrible things kids do...what about adults.

The lady who berates every Carnival employee because she isn't getting her way.

The adults who leave their messes for everyone else to clean up.

The adults who crash lines, save places in line for their groups to enter later.

Adults who chair hog, save seats in the entertainment venues, are loud and obnoxious during shows. Those who park their scooters in hallways, stack their room service trays in hallways, stand in front of doors having conversations, push over people as they rush onto tenders. Those who smoke where ever they darn well please. What about those who find a hot tub and don't leave it all day and have their own "private" parties. Those who rush into elevators never thinking to hold the doors open for disabled passengers or parent's with small children and strollers. Those who drink themselves into a stupor on port days and throw up half a dozen times in public areas. Women who reek of perfume and sweat and moth balls who you end up sitting next to in the MDR. Adults with no table manners who burp and slurp their way through dinner. People who hog three slot machines in the casino when it is packed to the brim and others can't find a spot to play.

    And I'm only getting started.

Thread is about kids, not idiotic adults.

  6. So, if you're booked through your TA, you can still speak and deal with Carnival directly, yourself? And make all changes / requests? You don't have to have your TA talk to Carnival for you? I was under the impression once you're booked with a TA, the cruise line will only deal with the TA regarding your booking. Am I misunderstanding how it works? I've never used a TA.

I should have said mostly. My TA goes to bat for me and does it all. No different than a PVP in my experience. Added benefit of extra OBC booking through her of course . I was able to change excursions, and such myself. Any price drop, she does it no problem. Finds ones I wasn't aware of, etc.

Virtually the same experience, but better. I wish I could give you her information but I think I could get banned for it.

  7. Can't believe all the dislike for children that consumes this board. No wonder younger generations are so screwed up. Apparently adults hate them and their presence and they don't seem to want to keep those thoughts to themselves. Wonder if my parents and their friends disliked us as much.

I raised four kids and worked with thousands over the years at work. I love kids but on vacation, Its nice to get away from them. Especially the current crop of kids, huge difference in behavior of kids the same age just ten years ago.

Hate them? Nope. Prefer to be away from them at times? Yup. Dont assume that people hate kids just because they don't prefer to be around them.

  8. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of kids. To be quite honest, I'm incredibly awkward around them and just...prefer not to interact. Nothing against y'all with kids...just not my thing. Please keep raising future (hopefully) respectable adults. :)

My husband and I will be on the Splendor in Feb and have been on the Conquest twice before. I LOVE the AO pool area.

On a side note, is this something most lines offer? I'm a little terrified Carnival will take this away eventually as they strive to be a more family-friendly line.

I was on Splendor in November. It was full of old people, the entire ship was an adult section lol. But they have a nice adult area up front.

Its a great ship, even the ugly decor grows on you. Hated it at first, really dug it at the end.

  9. This upcoming trip we are getting FTTF for the first time. I know what we get from the package, but for those of you who have gotten it before, I have a few questions:

    1) Are the rooms typically ready as soon as you board the ship, even if you are one of the first on? How can you tell if it's ready, and does anyone question when you go through the closed doors?

    2) How fast does your luggage typically arrive?

A lot of the reason I got FTTF was for the room and luggage arrival. Last time our luggage didn't arrive until after dinner, which made me quite nervous. I want to get settled in a lot quicker. Just looking for an idea of what to expect. Thanks!

I had FTTF on my cruise in November on the Splendor. My room was ready first thing. Luggage arrived around 6 while we were at dinner. Non FTTF luggage near me arrived before dinner for the most part. No guarantees of anything. Hopefully you have a better experience. FWIW luggage arrival wasnt a big deal for me, I just wanted a room ready, priority tenders, disembark and Guest Services lane. I got what I wanted.

Just sharing my experience as the luggage thing is important to you.

  10. I used to use a PVP but I have a good TA now. Does rive drops for me and is always there to help. Every booking she hooks me up with OBC and a free dinner at a specialty place.

She went so far as to call from HER cruise while she was in St. Thomas to get me upgraded to a balcony for o additional charge. Upgraded from Inside to Balcony on NCL Getaway, while she was on vacation.

My last CCL cruise she was same rate as Carnvial but offered OBC an kept an eye on price drops.

A good TA is worth it.

  11. Carnival made minor changes to the free room service menu, and added many new a la carte items. There is no nickle and diming here. You still have free room service for the things you had before, but if you want some fancier stuff you get to pay for it. It is a win - win situation. If you don't like this go to NCL where the only free room service is continental breakfast.

NCL is a great cruise. But yeah the room service menu is limited as heck. Good thing they have great ships with plenty of free food options.

I agree in that if free room service is a big motivation for choosing a cruise line, Carnival is a good choice.

  12. The menu does look wonderful. What is the cost per person? Do you feel it is worth it? ..

I was just on it a few weeks ago.

IMHO I wouldn't do it again. Its not worth the $35 in my opinion. Its not bad food, definitely a nice break from the MDR but its not all it was cracked up be IMHO.

I did enjoy it save for Kevin the annoying CD from making announcements full blast in it. I say try it.

I really liked the Splendor though. I wish they had more instead of the Conquest class.

  13. Luggage is supposed to be fast-tracked with FTTF. Make sure your luggage gets an orange sticker.

I cannot find that anywhere in the description of its benefits. Not saying you are wrong, just that I couldn't find it.

They did tag my luggage with a FTTF s ticker though but it made no difference. I thought it was perk of FTTF as well but after the cruise, I looked it up and couldn't find it to mention in the review.
