  1. Our ***** cruise is on the Regal in April 2018. I have not had any luck with the Ocean Compass site as it just hangs and hangs - I guess it is all just a work in progress and hopefully it will be in working order in the new year.

  2. Many thanks for these much more positive thoughts! As it's over Christmas and we're bringing a couple of our adult children I was beginning to worry we'd made a mistake.

As everyone's been so helpful - any recommendations for after the cruise for new years eve - looking for an atmospheric restaurant - we're staying in LA for a couple of nights before returning to UK.

If you are staying in the Long Beach area I would recommend 555 East ....

http://www.555east.com/ It is an American Steakhouse that is amazing. Reservations can be made over the web.

  3. When departing out of San Pedro we like to get to the terminal around 10:45. A quick check in and then sit and chat in anticipation of the fun that's about an hour away. We have made it a tradition to go to the MDR lunch and it is something that we look forward to. 30 days until we leave for Vancouver for our next cruise - can hardly wait. Especially since the Star is the only ship in port on embarkation day!

  4. Can some one tell me the difference between mini suite and club class mini.

    Thank you

    Margaaret

They are the same rooms with some additional amenities. With the Club Class you get true "anytime" dining with a separate entrance into the MDR with no or little wait time. You do not get the benefits of the full suites, so really you are paying for priority boarding and no waiting for the MDR. We are trying Club Class on a repo cruise next month because the price difference between the Mini and the Club Class mini was only 25.00 p/p, so we thought we would see what it was all about.

  5. As someone who is a consultant who lives on the road, with millions of airline miles, a little perspective - why would anyone give a rats a$$ what someone's status is. What a meaningless reflection of ones self worth. Why does one care or feel the need to share with the world that one gets warmed over canapés at an overcrowded event.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

In that case, should your millions of airline miles make me pay more attention to your post - quite the opposite. Why did you feel the need to qualify your opinion with the addition of all your travel experience - seems the same as those who you are maligning.

  6. Added the app and tried to link my existing reservation but it wants a "Reservation Number" and doesn't accept my Booking Number. Also wanted to take my picture rather than allowing me to choose a picture. Says date of birth not chosen but won't let me edit that field. Doesn't seem ready for prime time...

Same with me - maybe still not live. I will try again tomorrow on the 13th.

  7. Our first Medallion cruise is not until April 2018 (hopefully after the testing period) but I downloaded the Social Ocean app this morning and tried it out. The Tagalong critter was easy to make and there appear to be endless options to personalize them. One of the working options in the application is to play their "casino" type games offline and not for real money. Except they they often give you the option to spend real money to buy their version of chips. To play the games you have to download another app called PlayOcean Everywhere. Several of the games are not available as you have to be on a Medallion cruise for them to work as I suppose they are "live" gambling with real money that can win as well as (mostly) lose. The working games are Roulette, a Slot Machine, a Poker type game and a Bingo game. There is an option called Ocean TV that doesn't do anything at this point except go to a web page. You can also log into various social media apps through the Social Ocean app which, I suppose, could give Princess access to what you are posting if you use their pass through option. Maybe not. I tried to add my cruise reservation into it but that does not appear to be working yet.

I usually lock up my phone in the room safe, but this may get me to bring it out at least initially to see what it is all about. Also to take you tube videos of all the people tripping over and bumping into each other because their faces are glued to their phones and they are not paying attention to where they are going.

    Happy Cruising.....

  8. On the Ruby, Grand, Golden, Crown and Diamond (and other sister ships) there are tables outside the Horizon Terrace that are there for eating. Not a whole lot, but they are there. I enjoy sitting out there in the morning with a coffee to watch the wake and sunrise. The tables are also close to the Outrigger Bar if you are so inclined. Weather permitting, it is a nice place to sit.

  9. Please adhere to check in time, to reduce congestion. :halo: What if 2000 pax wanted lunch @ 12 noon.

I am thinking that the OP wants to do the MDR Lunch which is normally only from 12-1:30. Its a great way to start a cruise and much more relaxing than the Buffet. The form letter they send to everyone is "mostly a suggestion" and not a rule.

Instead of worrying about getting a free lunch on the ship, try checking out of your hotel late and heading down to the Port O' Call Waterfront Dining and enjoy a nice lunch. Then move on down the street to the pier for embarkation.

I would wait for this suggestion until the new construction is done. Ports O Call has seen better days. https://www.bisnow.com/los-angeles/news/mixed-use/ports-o-call-revitalization-project-unveiled-56823

  10. You really should be ashamed to ask people in an open forum how to steal from the cruise line their revenue. Did you teach your children to cheat on their exams at school too? You are a scammer and I wonder what else you're so dishonest about. You're also a cheapskate since you can buy the drink on board for a reasonable fee so there's no excuse to smuggle it.[/quote

Must be nice to be perfect.

  11. It's not fake news.

The Meet and Greet coordinators got emails from Princess this last week informing them of this change.

Still remains to be seen if it will be enforced on board though.

Then I would have to say Princess is going a little batty. What a weird policy. I wonder if that means the Suite, Elite and Platinum mixer will follow, and the AIBP will not be allowed to be used there. I would definitely take a drink with me and mention to the Host my feelings about the new policy.

  12. Sounds like "fake news" to me and doesn't make sense. If it is true just walk over to another bar, get a drink using your AIBP, and walk back to the Meet and Mingle with a big smile on your face. You could even pick one up on your way to the M&M just in case. Have a great cruise.

  13. The biggest "perk" for us in a Mini is the tub in the bathroom. For a longer cruise, like Hawaii, I would probably take the upsell for the tub - not to mention the couch in the main cabin area. But thrak is right, $558 would go a long way to cover a bar bill on a 15 day cruise. Or a few Crown Grills. Or BOTH! Have a great cruise!

  14. Hi all, We are taking our second Princess cruise in a few weeks, and I'm reading horrid reviews about the new Club Class effect on Princess and getting nervous. I'd very much appreciate hearing about your experience as a NON-Club Class passenger. What I've read so far is very negative, specifically that you are no longer allowed to eat lunch in the MDR on embarkation day unless you are Club Class, and also that with so many Club Class passengers being seated without waiting for meals, the wait for meals in the MDR for other passengers is ridiculously long (over an hour). We loved our 2016 cruise pre-Club Class and never felt like second-class passengers. Spending so much money on a vacation and then being treated poorly would be awful, so I'm hoping that these awful reviews are overly dramatic. Any reassurance out there?

No worries! We have been on several cruises since Club Class began and have not noticed any changes at all. The MDR lunch is still open to all (and I highly recommend it) and the wait times in the MDR for dinner with ATD are no longer than I have experienced before. A lot of the wait time for ATD is dependent on when you choose to go. Eat early or late and there is (generally) no wait. If you go in the middle, you'll have time to enjoy a glass of wine or two (or three) prior to being seated. To me the pure enjoyment of being on a cruise more than makes up for wait times.

  15. Already have mine purchased for an upcoming 3 day to Vancouver. You wont be able to walk very far on the ship once you embark before the first crew member offers you the AIBP. And there are tables of all sizes in CC. I would just let the host at the door know of your wish to share a table and I am sure they will set you up with any other CC diners that want to share.
