  1. What a stormy 6 hours that was. Just before I was about to go to bed, I see a tornado warning for our county.  The lone supercell had actually moved from the NW to the SE, which isn’t typical.  Got about 10 miles to my north.  At least 2 confirmed fatalities from that storm.

Then this morning at about 5:00, another round to my south.  We didn’t get a lot of rain, and it wasn’t even severe warned.  However, when the storm collapsed, the winds started howling with reported gusts over 60.  Limbs were crashing into my house.  I picked up the aftermath.  One was even impaled into the ground.  Still a limb on top of my second story and one landed leaning over my neighbor’s fence.  One limb was about 3-4” in diameter.

Okay so there’s a tornado in my county but it’s way north of me. What a night

Yep, wait just a second.  Looking at the radar loop, it appears to be on a NW to SE trajectory.  That’s an odd movement.  And now looking at the NWS X feed, Anna, Melissa and Celina are in the tornado warned area.  That’s definitely south from where this supercell started.

Loudest sporting event of my life was Game 7 against the Avs in 1999. Mike Keane forever.

I was at that game, too.  Mike Keene was one of those character guys.  We always used to watch him in pregame warmups spit out the piece of gum he was chewing in warmups and flip it into the crowd.

I have to say, though, that the loudest sporting event in which I was attending was a game 7 double OT between Philly and Washington in Washington.  I happened to be there for work and got myself a ticket about 5 minutes into the game. Unbelievable experience.

    OT playoff hockey?

Well, that goes without saying, but I’d much rather Dallas take care of business in regulation.  In game 7 against Vegas, I took my pulse in the waning moments….let's just say my doctor would have been startled.  My resting pulse is high enough as it is.

I was actually in attendance for the double OT loss against the Devils in 2000 and also in the 5 OT game against Anaheim in 2003.

That's as good as it gets in the NHL. The Oilers top end is insane elite. The Stars are the deeper team. Gonna be a heck of a series. That Canadian crowd is gonna be INSANE, and Dallas is the best road team in the league.

The depth of the Stars is unbelievable.  They are not afraid to throw out the 4th line, and that 4th line can even score.  Nothing better than playoff hockey.

It’s always a good day with Russ Courtnall comedy lands. Thank you, friend

I have never bothered with buying sweaters with a name or number, as the player invariably gets traded or signs elsewhere as a free agent.  Now, if you had said a Claude Lemieux Stars sweater, we’d have a problem

My favorite sweater?  There was no option for a blank, but there is no name.

So back in 1993 when the Dallas Stars moved here from Minnesota, my buddies and I were fired up and saved up for some real deal hand stitched sweaters…. My buddies all went the obvious route with the Mike Modano 9, but not me. Oh no. I was too smart for that. I was all in on who would REALLY be the big star on the roster….. so yeah, I’m the guy in Dallas who dumped a month’s worth of waiting tables into a RUSS COURTNALL 26.

it still taunts me every time I see it the back of my closet since I can’t get rid of it for some reason.

The Jackie Treehorn shirt is DEFINITELY coming with me, though.

I audibly laughed out loud at the Russ Courtnall sweater.  Not many on here will get it.

Solo I just look for a window with nobody in the middle seat (or preferably a still empty row) and dive in. The weird way I convince myself I’m good with the back of the plane is on these rare occasions when I check a bag, like this one (because it’s an 11 day trip and bags are free on SW), I just tell myself by the time I get off the plane and to the baggage claim there’s that much less of a wait.

look, I may not be the athlete I once was, but I’m still pretty good at mental gymnastics

I once was stuck with the back row against the wall (no window) with the engine just on the other side of the wall in front of the bathroom…..from Newark to DFW.  Absolutely miserable.

  9. Stopped by Hawaiian Bros. yesterday with the family for some dinner.  They sell t-shirts there.  On the back of two of the shirts is a single pineapple.  Imagine how that goes over these days.  Who would have thought that a single fruit would represent something totally different?

  10. Well, that was a frustrating check-in process for my cruise on the Dream in 2 weeks.  Waited until 11:00 last night to check in.  Kept getting an error message stating it wasn’t time to check in, even through the link to check in on the Carnival was activated.  Speculation on that other site was that maybe it was changed to 12:00am in the time zone of the cruise (Galveston) rather than the eastern time zone.  I was already awake due to the Stars’ loss in 2OT, so I stayed awake until after 12.  Still the same error message, so I went to bed.  Was wide awake at 4am, and checked the Carnival website, and was able to check in for an arrival time of 10:00-10:30am.
