  1. we just got off a wonderful 5 day cruise on the disney magic. If anyone has any questions or concerns, i would be happy to help.

Sent from my iphone using forums

Our first Disney cruise will be a 5 day out of NY in Oct. Will there be any formal nights & will my DH need to bring a jacket? Any other hints will be appreciated.

  2. We will be in London prior to our cruise in May. We are planning to visit Stonehenge either on our way to the port or after the cruise before going to the airport. What would be the ideal time needed to spend at Stonehenge? How long is the audio tour which I understand you can rent?

    Thanks for the help.....

  4. Whether you read 'real' books or e-readers, a library is a quiet, comfortable place to read. I do not think they are a dying breed. Our local library is often packed, with people on the computer, doing research, browsing magazines, checking out the shelves, reading art books, etc. etc. On ships I've found the gamut: sometimes empty, but often without a seat to be found. There is something to be said about the collective experience of sitting and quietly reading books together with other people that I enjpy. I see it as a great loss that ships are losing their libraries.

I love libraries, too. I hope the ships do not eliminate the libraries.

  5. I have already booked the 3 shows for our January cruise. Did you have any guest entertainers? How many? Did you have to book reservations for these shows ahead of the cruise? RC doesn't seem to be able to answer these questions for me. On the Quantum I had to book the 3 entertainers prior to the cruise and then make some adjustments to my dinner times.

    Thanks for the informative review.

  6. My spouse and I are sailing on the Anthem TA, now a little over a month away. Very excited! But here's a little wrinkle we were not expecting...in the past day, RCI unilaterally moved around or cancelled the carefully selected entertainment bookings that we and others on our sailing had made. (Were it not for our Roll Call, I wouldn't have even known about this, as some folks received an email about it from RCI, but we did not.)

We had our dining and entertainment all booked and carefully planned. As has been discussed on other threads, doing this was time consuming; not technically hard, but time consuming. Dining opened for booking back in March, but entertainment was not then available. So you had to sort of guess at what might work for dinner, or not. Just that -- guess.

Then, in July, entertainment opened for booking. Naturally, some of the shows conflicted with some of the dinners we'd booked. So we had to jiggle all that around. You practically have to create a spreadsheet to get it all to work.

Okay, fine, too much planning needed for a cruise, but we had it all set and it was behind us. But then RCI, for no reason that has been explained to anyone, and just a month out, has now upset the applecart with a bunch of unilateral changes, prompted it appears by some changes in the show times.

In our case, just in the past day, they moved our booking of The Gift into a direct conflict with a dinner reservation we had at the Grande, and completely eliminated our booking for Spectra's Cabaret. As one of my fellow cruisers put it, there is a great "cascading effect" to all of this. You have to start again and see what dining is available when and what shows can be booked when so that you can juggle it all and hope to come up with something that works (after you'd already done all that).

I just spent the better part of an hour sorting out the mess that RCI had just created with our dinner and show bookings. It's now behind me, we are still looking forward to the crossing with great excitement, but this is not really how I want to spend time prior to a cruise, and I say this as someone who is a planner and enjoys planning.

Water under the bridge now, but I just wanted to alert folks that even when you think the pre-cruise bookings part is over, it may not be!

I certainly understand what you are saying having been thru a similar situation on our Jan. 2015 cruise on the Quantum. --only I had to make changes 5 times as RC made changes for me and other reservations for show or dinners just disappeared all together. It was frustrating and time consuming to be doing this. I know all of this was completely new for RC, but still after having taken many RC cruises, I still felt that this was a unnecessary time factor on my part before the actual cruise.

  7. I always play Mah Jongg on sea days on a cruise. Most ships do have sets in the card room, but you always need to check if all of the tiles are there. Many times there are tiles missing. Remember to take your current card along. If you have an extra card, bring it, too. Often there are people who play, but didn't bring a card with them.

You can post on the thread of your ship asking for Mah Jongg players. I do that and then know who wants to play.

  8. Last year Celebrity had a shuttle which we used. It was September and it was very hot walking the wall. Be sure to have a hat, water and sunscreen. Try to go as early in the morning as possible as it does get crowded. This walk was a highlight of the day & our trip.......we just loved it.

  9. Even though we are experienced cruisers, this will be our first B/B in January on the Anthem.

I know many of you have taken B/B so will be able to tell us how the cruise line will handle this. I know we will need to get off the ship & then re-board. As we will be changing cabins and decks, at what time do we make this move? How much help will the crew give us? Can all of our clothes stay on hangers & move with a cart? All hints for an easy move will be appreciated?
