  1. I'd like to clarify one thing about the Lander ticket. First it worked like a charm. Being the over thinking kind of guy I am, I started thinking that somehow I needed to stamp or certify the ticket prior to boarding the train. Since there was no one to ask at Warnemunde, I spent our one hour layover in Rostock, trying to find out if it was necessary. It wasn't. On the train to Schwering, the conductor came by and wanted to see the ticket and the credit card used to book the ticket. She stamped it and all was good for all 4 in my party. On the return trip, conductor again checked it but did not want to see credit card. It was a whole lot simpler than I tried to make it. Thanks Annie.

PS. Check return times at station in Schwering (or wherever you are going) as they do get revised.

  2. I found out on my recent cruise that if you order a drink during the times that the CC coupons are valid, the staff prefers you use the coupons rather than just exercise your drink package. I was told by one of bar staff that he gets a better tip with the coupon. I confirmed this with a second waiter the next night. From that point on, I always tried to remember to take my coupons with me to the bar during the valid hours.

  3. And what a wonderful experience! I have not cruised with X for several years and after reading all the "WBM" on this forum, I was beginning to regret my decision to book the Baltic cruise. However, I was not disappointed in any aspect of the cruise! It certainly is not the same experience from the 90s on the Century class and even the Horizon but it was still a class act. From the moment I stepped on board until the final departure, the staff was superb, food excellent, and Shipboard life relaxing. The ship was beautiful!

Bravo Zulu to you Celebrity and to the staff on board Eclipse.

  4. Can someone help me with a "charging" question? I kmow power on board will be 110v so no issue here. We will be in UK for pre cruise. Many small appliances will take 110 and 230v. What about an I phone5 and 6. Can I charge direct from 230v with just an adapter or do I need to take the convertor?

  5. We've sailed Celebrity previously, but we never received an assigned boarding time email until today. We are on the Eclipse out of Southampton on August 14 and the email stated that there is little seating, therefore passengers were asked to observe the assigned times. Failure to do so would result in being sent away until their assigned time arrived.

I have no problem with this, but just curious to see if that is a new norm or just for Southampton?

Also, my husband is the photographer in the family. For those who have done the Baltic previously he is wondering if it is worthwhile to bring a telephoto lens?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can reply!

Hey Mr and Mrs GP. Glad to see some neighbors will be joining us on this cruise. We also received the email. I plan to board as late as possible as I want to spend the morning hiking in the New Forest. I have also heard these times are treated as suggestions although I suppose you could be asked to return if it us before your time.

  6. Calculate what the total gratuity would be (#days X daily gratuity rate) and if it is more than $150 take the gratuities. You don't identify what the OBC is used for. It s simply deducted off your account at the end of the cruise. If you run up a $400 bill, they will deduct $150 (or whatever your OBC is) and your credit card will be charged the difference. Since gratuities are charged to your account, they will be part of your overall bill.

  7. I recently went n my first RCCL cruise and was given Diamond status. Believe me, the benefits on RCCL are much better than you will find on X. That Diamond club is a real plus.

  8. We're flying to Heathrow in August/ We booked a shared shuttle (through Viator) that will take us directly to our booked hotel (Hampton by Hilton London Waterloo) which is walk-able to many sites, bus stops nearby, and the Waterloo Station about a 5-8 min. We've booked through Megatrain our transportation (£8 total for the two of us) from the Waterloo Station to Southampton. From everything I've read, we can walk from the hotel to the Waterloo Station to get the train. This will be our first time in London and sailing from Southampton. I hope this helps.

LMack. How bout bringing me some BBQ??😄 I will also be in Southampton in August.

  9. I agree, it's just a port town like many others but it does have the New Forest on its door step and Winchester (about 20mins by car and less by train) is a much prettier and more interesting place for our visitors to spend a day before boarding a ship.

PS Enjoying your review and the lovely photographs, we will be on Eclipse again in August to the Fjords

Jo, one of the options I am considering from Southampton is to take ferry to Isle of Wight and spend the day there. Problem is, it will be on Aug 13 which apparently coincides with some yachting week. Will IOW be covered up with people? Should I stick with original plan of spending day in New Forest?

  10. I have mentioned it before and I want to mention it again.

During 2016-2021 there will be large construction works going on around Slussen.

During those years, cars/HoHo buses/ship shuttles and etc will not be able to drive directly from Stadsgårdsleden across Slussen to Gamla Stan.

Katarinavägen will also be closed for ALL traffic (not sure if you still can walk along it).

City buses will be affected and will use slightly different routed across Södermalm but the Londonviadukten stop will be stopped at as usual.

These are the current routes that no longer will be used the next couple of years. The changes will take place on Friday.

This will likely cause allot of queues and delays for all types of traffic that passes Slussen, so beware and plan accordingly.

However public buses will be given priority over all other types of traffic.

All buses that have a stop at the Slussen terminal will also have new locations for their stop:

    http://sl.se/sv/info/resa/forandringar/bussomlaggning-slussen//Date

Buses 53, 76, 93 and 96 will no longer stop at Glasbruksgatan and Tjärhovsplan.

The closest suitable replacement stop for those is Nytorgsgatan:

Our plan is to take the ferry to Vasa from 167 then walk over to Gamma Stan. Then walk back to 167. As soon as you know if pedestrian traffic will be affected with construction, please let us know. Thank you.
