  1. That is great, what a great way to honor Dave, who has done so much for our CC community! Wonderful

    Ron

Yes, I agree. Larry, that was pretty cool. Kudos to you.

I may have missed it, but any update on what Princess may be doing for Dave on his cruise. Hopefully, they listened to our plea and are doing something special for him.

I knew Sharon would come through for you!

Yes she did. Thank you, Sharon... and BlueHerons and Florissouri, as well.

I think we will try for Chart House reservations and keep walking to the bridge as the back-up plan.

    I appreciate it. Paul

  3. I forgot about Shooters! Love that place.

As I was looking through the suggested restaurants, it appears that Shooters was purchased and closed for refurbishment. Has it reopened yet?

Flip Flops has a finger food buffet for $75 per person and says that the parade passes by at 8:00.

Charthouse usually uses Opentable for reservations, but that search engine says to call the restaurant directly for that day. We've eaten at Charthouses in several other cities, and it is good. Although I prefer to eat 'locally' when we are away.

The best thing may be to walk to the bridge and eat on the way (and on the way back!). That opens up a lot of possibilities.

    Thanks, Paul

  4. Shooters,Flip Flops, and Chart House are on your side of the bridges so go there if you want to view from a restaurant. Make reservations ASAP as they fill up fast. If you just want to watch for free, see if you can get a spot on or under the Las Olas Blvd bridge. You can walk there from the Westin, and then find a place to eat on the way back to the hotel.

    Thanks a bunch, Sharon.

    Both options sound great!

    Thanks, Paul

  5. Perfect, Sharon and Florissouri.

This is just the type of info that I was hoping to get. I was also worried about the traffic based on what I have read. We are staying at the Westin Beach Resort, so we will probably look for the closest restaurant on your list to watch the parade.

Thanks, so much, for the information. Paul

  6. Thanks, BlueHerons.

Although most of our activities are centered around eating at local restaurants, we can do that before the parade (and after!!). Any suggestions on where to watch would be appreciated.

We have a rental, so that is not an issue.

    Thanks again, Paul

  7. We will be in Fort Lauderdale for a cruise during the Winterfest Boat Parade. Sounds like a big and exciting event. Is it something to attend or avoid? What would be a good restaurant vantage point?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  8. Right now on Budgets website there is a "Wendy" code, D454300, Good through 12/15/13 for Weekend rental. I am in FLL in October for a girls weekend and rented a compact car for $17 a day for 4 days for a total of $110 including taxes. i've done some mock bookings for some October/November dates for Friday to Saturday rentals and Saturday to Sunday rentals and compact cars are $27 all inclusive. I think thats a great deal.

Here is the link, I hope it stays here for others to use.

    Thanks, Girlscruise.

It works. Had a one day rental on Dec 14 for a Dec 15 cruise on the Royal out of FLL for $75, which was a bargain at the time. Rentals are real high for that week. Used this link at got a Ford Edge for $38 taxes included.

    Thanks again, Paul

  9. Paul,

We have been empty nesters for a couple of years now, we thought it would be tough, but we are enjoying life to the fullest. We are done with college payments as well, you will enjoy the day you make your last tuition payment! We sure did!

Thank you so much for your kind words, I hope you get to enjoy this itinerary, it's a winner!

    Ron

Yes, we also dream of the last tuition payment. That will be in a couple of years!

We still plan trips with the 'kids', like our December Caribbean Cruise on the Royal....but we have learned to enjoy each other 'again' on a couple of trips without them. You are right, the first couple of trips without them were an adjustment, but now they encourage us to take off on our own!

    Thanks, again. Paul

  10. Ron,

Thank you for your informative and insightful review of the Royal and the ports. Your discussions on the logistics and private tours at each port are very helpful. However, your stories on the history and architecture of each area are incredible.

One of our kids graduated from college last year and the other is now in her third year. As such, we are newbie empty nesters who are like the proverbial kids in a candy store with the travel possibilities. Your review of this cruise has placed this itinerary on our top three list at this point.

Thanks, again, for taking your time to detail your trip.

    Paul
